I have a couple of comments regarding the rift events, one obvious and one not so.

Firstly, I would implore the Devs to look carefully at the design of all future events, so that the amount of time players are expected to ‘stand around’ waiting for things to happen is minimized.

Unless you are very lucky (and the destination rift is open), whilst completing all 13 rifts, the vast majority of your time is going to be spent waiting for a rift to open.
Yes, I know you can map back to the pond to continue but in general, a lot of the events recently involve too much standing around and it is an issue I think the Designers should consider more carefully.

The second issue may well be a bug, but for those with Alts, The Rift device is currently soulbound so can not be used on other characters. Assuming that the device may well be essential or be very useful for getting around in future, and considering that the number of possible locations you will need to visit to upgrade the device further is going to increase exponentially – obtaining one for all alts is going to be a hugely time consuming task.

A spawn timer would be fantastic for this event, or say every 15-20 it spawns,

Last night in the cursed shore we waited for nearly 20 minutes to spawn, and when it did, it was stable then no one could jump threw the portal, it was bugged,

Tonight logged in, went to Cursed Shore, 30 mins later still no portal,

I and many guildies have given up on this event, you’d think after 4 years ANET would realise that making players stand about waiting for something that may or may not spawn, and may or may not work when it does, is a bad idea.

Also a counter to show which rifts you have already done would be great.

Poorly thought out event this one.

Bloodcrazed bosses and almost all of the Current Events items say otherwise. The most acceptable wait time of the bunch was for the bandit bosses, since ~10 minutes is the most a player should be expected to wait for open world content.

Many alts; handle it!

You don’t wait for rifts, you make them. It’s harder in event-choked maps like Cursed Shore, but look around for an event dot with no event on it. Equip your device while standing on that dot, press 1, and boom, you get a rift. If the map you’re in hasn’t got one you can find, wp back to Fields of Ruin, well away from the pond, and find an event dot to make your rift.

I can’t get trough the one on the bridge at Demon’s Maw in Lornar’s Pass. if you stand on the bridge tower thing you can’t jump in the portal, if you fly to the portal it does register the jump in the portal but since you did not have the device up you get back to the pond instead of to the next location. What do I do to get to the next portal ?

I have not found any event dots without an event on the whole map there is one rift that is spawning every few minutes but that one I can’t use.

If you haven’t already, look up the number for the next portal on Dulfy’s site. If you change your stabilizer to that number, jumping throug a rift anywhere (like in the fields of ruin where it’s easy) will take you to the location for that number.

It’s absolutely not necessary to use the portals at any of the locations a Rift sends you to. Also, as noted above, many, many, event markers are showing up all over the maps. You can create your own Rift at them.

Still, no need to wait anywhere. Even Cities have Rifts and/or event markers now.

The point about the rift device being soulbound instead of being account bound is something I’d like to agree on. I happened to be leveling an alt in that area and went ahead and started the event on it. Now my level 40 has a soulbound device, which is annoying enough since the rifts can take it to high level areas where it might get killed if there’s mobs nearby. But worse than that, I can’t hand the device off to my usual char that I do this sort of thing on or to any other of my chars. Any I want to do it on will now have to spend time getting the device and going through all the portals again.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Yes, I was surprised to find the devices/stabilizers soul-bound. I would not have used the character I initially used, had I known.

Otoh, I did open some map areas, easily, that character had not been to before.

I’m not sure if I want to start over with my Main, or not.

It would be nice if a Dev could feedback whether this was intended or not – 13 locations to upgrade to level 2 is going to be a major task for those with many alts, but it’s doable.

If the item upgrades to level 3 however and it requires visiting over 150 locations, well…….

I have nothing against alts, but why do the event with all alts? Likely, the reward, whatever it should be, will be one per account.

Just curious.

For the time being I am personally holding off doing so, but no one has any idea how important or useful a fully upgraded device may be in the future.

What if, when the next set of destination rifts are added, some are in locations that are inaccessible by other means or required for future story steps? In these cases, anyone wishing to participate with an alt will need to fully upgrade their devices.

Also, if a third number range is added to the device if/when it is upgraded again, the possible number of combinations (and therefore locations) is going to be well in excess of 1,000, which would make it an extremely useful device to have on any character for getting around to out of the way locations.

Doing it with alts gives those alts quick access to some hard to reach places. Or just convenience — eg VIII-VI puts you just outside the bay for the Taidha event, and VI-IX drops you smack dab on the Claw’s plateau (not necessarily convenient if the event is up when you travel there ).

Still, I’ll stick with just upgrading my RP/LS main for now. Well, almost stick with it. I decided to do it again on a level 60 alt that I’m working on for a long-overdue leveling fix (she’s also fantastic for checking the Player-Helping-Players stickied mapping guide maps), mostly so she’d get some wp unlocks in maps she can’t get to yet. Banking those for future need is nice.

It took all afternoon, though, so yeah, I’m not repeating that on all 20 alts. Maybe I’ll do it one more time on my main reaper since she’s turning into my PvE main.

Interesting: I did not see any event dots on this second alt. However, remembering where they had spawned for my main, I was able to fire off the device and make a rift in those locations. I do not know if something changed with the dots since yesterday (either via a bug or on purpose from ANet), or if one must be using an 80 to see them.

She means you can create a Rift almost anywhere by interacting with all the new event markers on the map(s). They are kind of bothersome when looking for a regular event, but, on the other hand, they make completing the Daily Map Event a breeze. Just pull out your activator 4 times, and voila! All done!

I’ve not seen any of the event dots on any of the maps I’ve visited. I thought I saw one but it turned out to be a regular event where the text just wasn’t showing up for some reason. Instead I’ve been staying at the point the rift drops me and using the device every few minutes. Sooner or later it opens a portal.

Sometimes I can’t jump through (particularly the one in Dry Top because you seem to need to be quite a way back from the portal for it to work and that one is on a tiny platform).

In between I’m browsing the internet. Not the most exciting way to play but it works.

As for getting the device on alts I’d strongly recommend holding off until you’ve completed the entire process on one character and know what the end result is. Based on previous Living Story content (and other things like festivals) it’s far more likely the stabaliser will become a useless novelty item than some virtually indispensable travel aid.

Just to clarify a bit on the “event dots with no event” thing… they only appear when you have the Content Guide activated, at least from what I’ve seen.

I see them sometimes but not most of the time (which is why I wasn’t sure what was meant at first). I’d say that most maps don’t have a single dot most of the time (my POV). The maps that have dots more often are the maps with the ley energy events.

Ah, that would be why I never see them. I only ever turn the content guide on when I’m doing map completion and can’t find the final point/s.

I have a question

For Class II Rift Stabilizer, do I have to go through all the portal from 1, 1 to 13, 13?

Or just go to those location which doesn’t appear more than 1 ?

Example like 2, 5 Dredgehaunt Cliffs, and 6, 3 Dredgehaunt Cliffs

Do I have to go to both of that, or just 1?

thank you

I went back and read Dulfy and it seems that although you can get the Class 2 device and go to the locations she lists, nothing happens after that yet. So I guess we’re waiting for the next step like we did with Seis.

I went to all the Class II locations listed on the Wiki, including ones that I already visited with the Class I, just in case.

Bear in mind sometimes there are 2 points in the same map. For example as well dropping you into Gillscale Pond in Fields of Ruin the Class II will send you to Blackwing Excavation, Belag Crossroads and Wildlin Narrows, all in Fields of Ruin.

It confused me when I was working through settings in numerical order. I sometimes had trouble getting the rift to teleport me and found a running jump from a slight height worked best. But sometimes I’d start gliding, which reset the stabaliser. So when I got sent to each of those I was worried I’d messed up and it was sending me to Gillscale, until I landed and realised I was somewhere totally different.

As I said I don’t know if you need to visit all of them, but I decided I’d rather do them all than try to guess and end up trying to remember which one/s I’d missed later on.
