[SPOILERS] Second Thoughts on Summit
I think someone actually espoused the theory that, by going into Omadd’s machine, WE have become corrupted by Mordremoth. This whole idea of getting all the leaders into one place so we can discuss what to do? It’s what Mordremoth is TELLING us to do, so that he can launch an attack against the Pale Tree and kill all the Tyrian leaders at once.
Not corrupted, but possibly being influenced by Mordremoth, who may have tried to link with our character’s mind like he did to Ceara. While we didn’t stick in the machine long enough to go crazy/corrupted, it may have been just enough of link to subtly give us the idea to get the leaders together.
Yeah, interesting theory but how will that end?
I’ve not heard of any MMO which has the player character openly turn against their nation (as in, like how that’d be… meaning everybody past LS is hostile but those who haven’t done it aren’t…) and while neat… it’d get cured.
Everybody knows it’d get cured/fixed/blocked. Besides, don’t you think the Pale tree would’ve picked that up and said something to Sylvari players? “I can feel his presence growing stronger in you, I’m doing my best to halt it!” or something.
That’s not a totally unreasonable direction for the plot to go, since some of us did get tricked by a mesmer into bombarding our own troops in the personal story. Though, if that does occur again, we’ll fix it after not too long, since Anet has stated that the player is always a hero.

Good point. However, it’s possible the link is so subtle that even she can’t notice something wrong.
To be honest, I kinda hope we didn’t get influenced by the dragon, and that he’s just somehow picked up on it another way (maybe his tendrils can intercept information as well as siphon magic from the waypoints), or is just going for the Pale Tree, and just decides to take advantage of the summit to get the others. But, the idea of us being subtly influenced by Mordremoth seems plausible.
Edit: Plus, while not really related, the excerpt referencing Varesh Ossa gives the idea of people working towards one’s goals without them realizing it…foreshadowing Mordremoth’s attack on the summit as well? While it’s explained by the Pale Tree’s seeming inability to project her avatar anywhere but in the Omphalos Chamber, it’s still awfully convenient for the dragon to attack there, since it’d probably start there first anyway.

Yeah. Logically I know that would almost certainly never happen, but it was a fun theory. XD

That’s similar to the Undead Lich in proph who used us to finish his own goals…
But I label that as different then what was seeming to be theorized, which would lead to us actually turning evil at some point, instead of simply being tricked (which the Lich and that risen did.) and bad results coming from that trickery.
It would be a little complicated logistically to make the player characters evil. The Sylvari, as a race, becoming completely corrupted present about the same issue.
There are just going to be forces we have no control over. The summit is going to be a prime target, and while it is obvious that Mordremoth is going to be the subject matter discussed between player races, we can always consider that their antagonists (The Inquest, Nightmare Court, etc…) can obviously target the gathering as well for maximum chaos.
So far, the only loose end we have nailed down is Scarlet. There is a lot that can and still has yet to happen if the narrative goes well.
