So, I was really lucky to get one off an amulet I got from the Silver Wastes, but I am curious.

I noticed that I salvaged a few Fire Orchid Garland bought from the merchant in Draconis Mons. Each time I got 500 unbound magic back in addition to the regular miscellaneous salvage material.

I got to thinking…

Since the 500 unbound magic is not something I got (at least remember getting), from the regular amulets acquired/salvaged in the Silver Wastes, is there a separate salvage table for these items from the LW3 areas? Do they have the same chance at getting the Salvaged Excellencies?

I’d hate to think I’m wasting my time trying on these.

Data on amulet salvage is quite low. We can only assume the drop rate is similar accross all amulets.

Also the 500 Unbound magic you get back are just that, a slight refund to the cost of purchasing the amulett in the first place (for 125 Orchids and 3000 Unbound Magic).

Going by the sort of stable price of Salvaged Excelence on the TP, the drop rate for it does not seem improved for any recently added amulett into the game. By that I mean, it’s still super low and you are taking a big gamble on salvaging amulets no matter from where.

Yes, but the fact that it does refund that 500 unbound on salvage tells me it’s a different item compared to the vanilla ascended amulets.

Which means, there’s a separate salvage table. A super low chance at the salvaged excellence is better than no chance, which is why I’m asking. If the chance is the same, I’ll keep salvaging them.

This is the kind of thing I need an Anet staff member to address. I thought I’d try here before I wrote up a service ticket.

Makes sense though I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I doubt you’ll get any type of confirmation about drop rates.

These kind of things usually get datamined or most often figured out by big sample sizes of testing by from the community.

You can try your luck.

For your purposes, you only need to find one person who received salvaged [fill in the blank] from any type of LS3 trinket. I can’t find anyone who has posted that (although I only checked the amulets).

The closest I found was this thread, which simply confirmed that the items are salvageable, but no link to the drop table.

You can also do a google search for salvaged [insert relevant name here], by including the name of the relevant trinket, e.g. here’s the sort of thing I just did:

gw2 salvaged excellence “blood ruby pendant”

So you’re saying we are on a quest!

Suddenly the salvage confirmation of GW2 items becomes more interesting than the Fedex missions that Anet donkey slaps us with constantly.

Either that, or the great guild wars quests are actually getting a developer to answer a simple question.

getting a developer to answer a simple question.

Like I said before, they don’t address drop rate questions, except under extraordinary conditions (which this doesn’t qualify as — we are just inquiring minds).

So you’re saying we are on a quest!

Most drop rate questions are like that, which is partly what I enjoy about them.

You can’t be serious…

rate1
re?t/
noun
noun: rate; plural noun: rates

1.
a measure, quantity, or frequency, typically one measured against another quantity or measure.
“the island has the lowest crime rate in the world”

big differences against

possibility
?p?s??b?l?ti/
noun
noun: possibility; plural noun: possibilities

a thing that may happen or be the case.
“relegation remains a distinct possibility”

As far as game mechanics are concerned these 2 can be seen as synonymous.

So you’re saying we are on a quest!

Not sure why the sarcasm. It’s industry standart to not answeres these kind of questions.

Go check on any other majoy MMOs and you’ll get the same answers. Droprates and other internal mechanics always have to be player datamind/figured out.

For unbound magic you’re best bet is Bitterfrost. The high drop rate of berries with the high yield from consumption is the best way to get large quantities of this. If you’re just looking for salvage bonuses then dungeons, raids, and fractals are you’re best bet as they yield a higher quantity of rarer quality items.

I think the OP is looking for this: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvaged_Excellence, which only acquired from Ascended Amulets.

Indeed!

All I want to know is if the Salvage Excellence is possible from LS season 3 amulets. The primary concern is that they do not. This concern is drawn from the fact you get 500 unbound magic back when salvaging these items, due to a different salvage table from normal ascended amulets found elsewhere in the game.

API data for the Fire Orchid Garland:

https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/81169

API data for Wynne’s Locket (that I personally know has a possibility for the Salvaged Excellence):

https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/67898

The Garland has additional flags “NoSell” and “DeleteWarning”, but aside from the stat choice section, I’m not sure where the guaranteed 500 unbound magic from a salvage comes from, or how these amulets differ otherwise in salvage (other than what could be explained directly from the item ID number itself).

According to this Wiki it’s only Trinkets excluding rings that have a chance at that.

I fear you’ve still missed the question. There are ascended trinkets from the new maps and from other sources. The ones from other sources are known to include a very, very rare chance to drop an item needed for Ascended Recycling. The OP wonders if the ones from the new map share this chance, since they are known to use a different drop table (the new map ones drop unbound magic; the old map ones do not).

A simplistic version of the question might be stated as:

  • The Distinguished Circle salvages to stabilizing matrices, with a very tiny chance at Salvaged Excellence
  • The Blood Ruby Pendant drops stabilizing matrices & unbound magic; does it also have a tiny chance to drop Salvaged Excellence?

The wiki isn’t 100% consistent about what it has posted regarding the salvage rates and sources (takes time for the contributors to catch up). I haven’t found anyone posting that they have gotten Salvaged Excellence from an LS3 map, but then again, there are very, very few posts about it at all.

tl;dr OP wants to know of the LS3 ascended amulets use an entirely different drop table and have no chance, or just the same teeny tiny chance that other ascended amulets have.

I don’t think the Blood Ruby Pendant does. However the Jade Pendant and possibly the one in Draconis Mons might. The Jade Pendant doesn’t drop Unbound Magic when salvaged.

Well, if that is true that’s a good example of the wiki being wrong and or the devs overlooking the salvage mechanic.

Wiki:

Salvaging items bought with Unbound Magic will award 500 Unbound Magic.

It’s sort of neither. It takes the wiki a while to get consistent on all articles. Someone sees the patch note about salvaging X adding unbound magic and updates one article, but then isn’t around when a new item is added with the same feature and that other article doesn’t get the additional info.

The wiki is typically really good, but for these unusual cases, in which there’s relatively little data, it takes them a while to catch up.

So I wouldn’t rely on the wiki to answer the OP’s question, nor would I assume it (or the devs) are mistaken — someone needs to do the research and someone needs to update the wiki (often not the same people).

There lies the problem then. You can’t rely on the wiki to be accurate enough to trust without several sources confirming the salvage. You also can’t rely on a single someone to do the research on such a rare drop from a particular item that’s somewhat gated.

….they might just have really bad luck, and their confirmation bias kicks in to state that it doesn’t happen.

Yes, that’s why it’s good that the wiki is crowd-sourced and its community includes clever & thorough contributors who don’t rely on just the one person.

Anyhow, OP, you might be the player who ends up confirming things one way or the other, either by finding the evidence that someone got salvaged xyz from one or more unbound trinkets or finding enough results to convince us it doesn’t happen at all.

At the very least, it would be helpful to confirm whether all the unbound trinkets drop unbound when salvaged, since that information hasn’t yet made it to the wiki.
