Is…quite random actually. I thought Scarlet would be interesting of a character and we would finally figure out why in the hell she made the molten alliance, aetherblades, and everything else up to this point.

Instead we are still left hanging without answers to these and instead of being a cynnical villain with some mild sort of reason behind what she’s doing, she just seems like your typical baddy who just does stuff for the sole apparent reason of being “evil”.

Or is there lore I missed somewhere? All I know is that she basically saw “everything”, went coo-coo and then started making alliances and steam-punk machines for….what exactly? I feel like we’re fighting something that is “supposed” to be super evil and we need to stop it, but Scarlet doesn’t make me feel like that at all. Instead I feel like i’m fighting against a small little child who accidentally snapped a part of her cerebral cortex and is just doing things for the lels.

So…is there any lore i’m missing or did i hit the gist of it?

The whole Scarlet thing is bad and disjointed anyway.

The Aetherblades are trying to cheat their way into the council in during dragon bash, for unknown reasons, and a month later we discover they are the minions of a Joker/lex Luthor genius alongside with other previously unrelated villain groups and have an army big enough to annihilate all of Tyria.

That makes the whole dragon bash story a pointless bad joke because they could just take LA and nobody could oppose them. It just makes no sense and I dont expect it to get better for the Scarlet arc. It seems cobbled together on short notice to react to player concerns that the LS is not leading anywhere.

She need to go, they took a year to show her off and now we know who she is know one cares.

They need to get back to dragons and make the fight between them and my character a personal one. Scarlet is the second worst villain, Zhaitan being worse as he was Trahearne’s!

Biggest issue Anet’s having with the LS is that they’re giving too little story in the game. Listen to this interview – I dunno about you, but Scarlet not only is no longer a Villain Sue that the short story made her to be, but she’s somewhat interesting. You’ll find out that she didn’t see the Eternal Alchemy, but rather went through a sensory deprivation device (aka, had no sight, hearing, smell, taste, or feeling – nada, nothing). Scarlet doesn’t come off to me as being “super evil” but rather “super dangerous” (a big difference).

It should be noted that we actually haven’t seen anything about Scarlet’s plans and intentions – the Queen’s Jubilee was an act of a whim. We don’t know why she was after the Captain’s Council, why she made the Molten Alliance, or why she’s now using the steam creatures (so in a way, what we’ve seen of her, herself, is her just doing things for the lulz).

Not to say this “lack of reveal” is a good thing… it really isn’t. At all. We’ve spent too much time on her with knowing… nothing really. Nine months now, and all we have is a face and some background. And promises of more.

And those promises are beginning to look empty. After all, if nine months pass and all we got is a name and face, how long will it be until we have some true meat on the bones called the “Living World”’s story?
