Season 3 start date?
There’s been some info released about a panel at PAX South in which they’ll be addressing future plans for GW2, so I imagine anything related to LS Season 3 would be talked about at that point.

EXPANSION CONFIRMED.
In all seriousness though, we do not know yet and will probably find out at pax OR on Tuesday Newsday the 20th of Jan.

It depends on whether they are going to stick with s2’s model or if they are going to change it again. If they use s2’s model, I would expect us to go on another break after this episode, have a feature patch in the middle of Feb, and we would start s3 sometime in either March or April. Which would be horribly disappointing since we just can off Christmas break.
If PAX and whatever “Beyound the Point of No Return” is changes things up again, everything would be up in the air at that point. (I would still suspect a break in between s2 and s3 however. Afterwards it might change though.)

Just hope there won’t be another long break :S

That is probably to be expected though.
Keep in mind that it take weeks if not months to complete each episode.

Personally Id prefer them to ditch the season concept and release living world updates in appropriate sized chunks over appropriate timescales. That would feel more natural, than forcing cliffhangers and other cliches which go against a living breathing world feel.
The PAX announcement was tagged that Living World was just the beginning, so something is going to evolve or change.
Based on last year we will get this episode, then a break until the end of February at which point a feature patch will launch, followed by another WvW season in march, with another feature patch hitting in early may, with S3 starting in late june/early july.
At least that is what happened last year.
im betting feature patch 3-4 weeks after this update. It will also include the next WvW tournament. They might even throw in something like the dragon bash and queens pavilion again. Then after about 6 weeks they will start the next story arc (unless they actually do intend to have an expansion)

Aren’t we all. There was a break between S1 and S2, the mid S2 break, the x-mas break (which is understandable). So I’d hate to see another break between S2 and S3, but realistically if the past is anything to go on well probably get another 2 month break.

Probably the most likely scenario. Well feature packs aren’t that bad though, the second one wasn’t as nice as the first (although I’m mostly thinking of the wardrobe system) but still maybe they’ll do something fun and unexpected.
Ok, I’d be willing to place gold on a Feature pack coming out in February or, more likely, March—Gaile commented in another thread that we would see a major update in the first quarter. Which, given what Anet has done previously, means we will get something like Dragonbash for March/April and then LS S3 or whatever they replace it with come April/May. Lets hope you guys are right and they give us something to gnaw on later this month at Pax South…
Looks like another mmo is going for episodic content to make its world more “alive” judging by an announcement i read in a game producers letter.
Sounds like the living world concept is starting to catch on and spread

It’s a good concept, but it’s a bit harder to pull off in practice. Because as other have said before, we might be getting bits of content more rapidly that other MMOs, but they doesn’t make the world actually feel alive though. All areas not touched by the new content are stuck in time and unchanging. It kinda puts a damper on the whole “Living World” concept if some areas haven’t changed since the game launched.

Completely agree. Would love to see wide range changes across the world, but i can understand its impractical. Right now its just a sort of living world. Maybe the pax announcement will build on it
To be fair they did add more stuff around the world early on in the Living World, but more or less no one even noticed it so they most likely decided that it was not worth spending the time and resources on it.

It would be a huge step forward even if they added small changes even if its only for a set amount of time.
Let’s take the war against the centaurs for example…
They could add a new LW NPC who’s only job is to explain that the centaurs are on a strong offensive under the command of a new chieftain. They can show this be tweaking the scaling of all the centaur events in the zone up one or two notches. Once all the centaurs are pushed back again, they add in one single new group event where players have to kill the new chieftain in charge. The rewards for first time completion can be something simple like X amount of champ bags and/or a centaur themed skin of some kind.
And if they wanted players to notice them, all they would have to do is put it up on the UI for the duration of the change and take it down once completed the first time.
(This is getting off topic though.)

No one noticed it, because they didnt advertise it. I remember a dev saying this, yet neglected to mention what they had added. Even the community was baffled at the time.
The centaur war is a good example btw. Same with the charr treaty. Those guys have been standing talking for a long time lol
Considering “the living world was just the beginning”, we can expect a greater concept to take its place.
“Seeing how cliffhangers were a major success and undeniably something that no other has done to this lenght, we are happy to announce the start of Cliffhanger Story Season 1.
We will find out about the beautiful and very interesting tale of Moas. This small arc will only last till the end of the year so be sure to log in.
BUT WAIT…there’s more! We will be putting moa hats and dresses in the gemstore, and for the more ruthless players that want to show off in WvW we will be adding moa weapon skins.
BUT WAIT … there’s even more! We will also give each player that buys a black lion key 100% chance to get Moa Boosters which increase the exp you get by killing moas. We all know how important exp is in this game (who said we don’t listen to you guys..pfft) so be sure to grab those black lion keys!
As usual we do our best to listen to the players and offer them the best content we possibly can!
Tune in our twitch channel tonight for a comprehensive preview of stuff u most likely already know about and are sick off, for the lulz <3. We will have our hole board of devs and designers talk about how awesome & revolutionary the game is and have jokes about the things that you think you want…but we all agree that in reality we know better u silly sheep :>"

There will be no season three.
If they need that many “breaks”, they should stop claiming updates are bi-weekly. They’re not.
And that’s okay, if they didn’t claim they were biweekly.
There will be no season three.
Praise be to Dwayna if you’re right.
There may be a Season 3 as a lead in to the launch of the EXPANSION ^^

Granted we weren’t really informed about them so the lack of a reaction is mostly understandable.

The issue is always going to be around content production. A bigger concept would be difficult to pull off.

Or we could have both
