If the item is tradeable, Sonder the Seller sticks around to charge outrageous prices for it. In the case of the Selfless Potion, the heirlooms recovered to get it aren’t tradeable, so there’s no way to acquire them after the release ends, which is probably why the vendor disappears.
It wouldn’t really be harmful to let the vendor stick around, but it seems like a pretty niche situation that someone has enough tokens for an event they know is time-limited, but never makes the two-minute effort to cash them in. (It can happen, certainly, but I’m not sure it’s a major problem for most users.)
I meant to pick up Recipe: Gift of Blades, but never got around to it, which I take as a sign that, frankly, I wasn’t really that interested in it except for completion’s sake. That is a drag if you meant to do it and something came up that absolutely kept you from having the opportunity to cash in, but I wonder how often that happens.
