Anyone opened enough of these to know what can be gained from them? I’m curious since they are so easy to aquire.

They’re not the new Bloodstone Dust, you double-click them to get either a Geode, Lockpick, Ambrite, etc. from a stack of 10.

I opened them maybe 10-15 times and got only one Geode out of it.

Worthless junk. There’s no point to them. They should’ve just made the items drop more frequently from mobs. Another genius idea from Anet!

My uneducated guess is that they want to provide us with geodes and keys as drop from mobs, but without it being affected by Magic Find. Having the sand always drop allows them to do so by using fixed rates on whatever silky sand drop rate table they have.

Good point. Not exactly a great source of geodes (events seem a better bet to me) but it’s good to have something there. Plus, it’s weirdly exciting to get so many of something, even though the majority of it is useless.

Probably 90% of the time I’m getting nothing from the sand. Which is sort of a let down as the description makes it seem like you should get something every time, or at least a heck of lot more often than that.

The few times I have gotten something, it’s always been a single geode. Going to be a loooooong time before I get enough geodes for any of the nice things at the vendor…

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I’ve sifted through about 30 stacks of this sand and never seen anything show up as loot for them.

On the other hand I also have 7 keys that have mysteriously appeared in my inventory from somewhere (I have also used 3, which I believe were the 3 that were the reward from one of the living story parts). So either I’ve had others from somewhere that I’ve missed seeing (possible) or the loot from the sand isn’t showing up but I’m still getting it.

Why make sense, when it’s so much more fun to make nonsense?

I’ve noticed that when I don’t get an item, I get copper/silver from the sand. So you are still getting something from it even when it appears you don’t.

All I an say about silky sand is that I must bring this old suggestion of mine back:

All that double clicking is bad for you.

Another play session in Dry Top tonight, and from all that sand… ONE lockpick.

I’ll watch for coinage manually next time I play – but there’s no log entry and no on-screen graphic (over on the right where coins usually show) – I’ve watched both.

I didn’t get anything for a while…though maybe I was doing it wrong. Then suddenly, I started getting Geodes, Amrite (spelling?), and Lockpicks. They all show up over on the right side of the screen for me. Not sure about any coin, as that has never shown for me.

Yeah. I have been developing some significant carpal tunnel, although that’s more in my left hand, which has been going slightly numb lately. One thing I did, and I really don’t care if this gets me in trouble because I couldn’t physically play the game otherwise, is that I mapped a button on my mouse to repeatedly left-click as long as I hold it down. I can’t open boxes any faster than if I were jamming on the mouse button, but it’s a lot less mechanical wear, on both of us.
