So from the Silverwastes, I’ve probably gotten several thousands of bags over the past couple of months. I’ve sort of settled on the following strategy for dealing with them. Not sure if it’s optimal, though, and would like some second opinions.

It’s the Bags of Gear I’m not entirely sure what to do with. Generally, they give two Fine and 1 Masterwork piece of gear, at your characters level. No fine or rare crafting mats. Right now, I’m opening them on a level 55 toon and salvaging everything for linen, iron, etc. This seems to be much better than opening them on an 80 and getting nearly worthless mithril and elder wood. 50 bags gives me 6-8 g worth of mats, it seems.

Problem is, this leaves me with a toon I don’t want to play. If he levels up any more, I’ll stop getting the gear that makes this worthwhile. This gives me a disincentive to play my character. :-/

Tough choice. I think it depends on how much MF you had when you opened the chests, because that’s (I believe) the MF used in calculating the loot in the bags. Having rare lvl 80 armor pieces is worth a ton, so if you had a lot of MF, it could be a better idea to open them on a lvl 80 toon.

Could you open half on your lvl 55 char, and half on your lvl 80 char, and post the results here? That would be great.

I don’t think MF affect those bags. As it doesn’t affect most bags. (Could be wrong as i’ve been away fro a while)

However, you have to make a choice. Either not lvling that character to get most out of your bags OR open them on another (lvl 80 i presume) character and play on the lvl 55 one. But you will loose out some money on it.

I kind of have the same problem, however I only play on one character so my other 4 are mainly bank space and used for things like these.

Your strategy of opening the masterwork gear bags on a level 55 is probably best in the long run . . . but the last precursor I got I got from one of those green gear bags so . . . I’d just open them on my 80s even if I had a mid-level characer.
