Speaking as a Mesmer...
Yea, its kinda lame how much better the white mantle mesmers are than we are. I mean we took down 2 elder dragons, yet these white mantle pawns have way more power as a mesmer than we do. I get for balance reasons why we can’t have skills like that in PvP, but it sure would be fun to have them in PvE. Multiple Mind Stabs would be amazing AoE damage and boon strip. Having an illusion take a killshot for us would be awesome.
Not only is everyone a mesmer, they all make me (the player) feel like an incompetent twit when it comes to abilities! Multi-Mind Stab? Portalling at a distance wherever you want? Endless invisibility? Being able to make your illusion fight for you all the way through its health and then you appear elsewhere? PERMANENT CITY SHIELDING?
I think we can forgive the Queen her tricks, because she actually states that they’ve prepared defensive wards in case of an attack, they just need to activate them. As for her other little trick: I think that was actually the Countess with a sniper rifle picking off targets as Jennah pointed to them, with a bit of illusion to make it seem as if the Queen was doing it.
The others, though? Yeah, it’s really bad. They need to tone down the skills on the White Mantle so they’re more in line with ours. Does that make them underpowered? Well, yes. But when the main character, the Commander, walks into a crowd of them, they should really feel fear. The MC by this point should be one of the nastiest combatants in Tyria. If you need to boost the Mantle some more, you need to add numbers. They should be calling for a zerg to take us on, not the other way around.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Lore wise I agree 100% with you palador. Gameplay wise, I much rather prefer fewer but stronger enemies than a horder of extremely weak enemies that don’t do much. As it is, the attacks (especially the mind stab) from the WM mesmers barely do any damage.

While it does little to no damage it does steal boons which i find quite nice. It makes buff counter useful and can lead to them dealing more damage and standing longer.
I think they are overpowered by Bloodstone…maybe a bit
Maybe the new skills displayed by white mantle mesmers are hints to new elite spec ?
Let’s not forget Estelle’s Minute+ long unavoidable, unstunbreakable stun.
People would have a field day if mesmers got /that/.
LITTLE SPOILER ALERT Some things mentioned are spoilers.
Now, before I say anything, I should state I’m not actually mad. I mean, I’m slightly miffed but not in an overserious way. Kinda tongue-in-cheek.
Continuing on, I love that mesmers are getting a little more story focus in the new “Head of the Snake” Living World chapter. But… seriously.

Now, with story characters, you naturally expect them to be able to do things that the player can’t and you can’t make players too powerful without breaking content, but even the most insignificant of NPCs has a huge leap in what their skills can do compared to ours. I feel downright incompetent! Note that I’m not talking about damage or fighting skills or whatnot (other than the Multi-Mind Stab or the fighting illusion).
I really enjoyed Head of the Snake, even if they did poke fun at the Charr race at the end. But man, I’m not sure I’ve ever played through a story series that made me say, “I am SO jealous” so much. “Everyone’s had more spells than me.”
tbh that medic at the end who portaled caudecus’(spoilers daughter)
wasnt prob a mesmer he just happened to raid and he got himself a portal from wing 3.

My thoughts exactly. Even still, as a chronomancer, they still don’t stand a chance against me. Use all the bloodstone magic they want, they still don’t have power over time :P
