Caithe did not steal the egg. It was someone disguised as Caithe. When the new trailer says that it’ll take a thief to catch a thief, they are saying that it will take the real Caithe to catch the fake one.

Discuss.

It’s entirely possible that it was a mesmer disguised as Caith that took the egg. However, this mesmer has yet to be revealed. I just can’t believe that it was Countess Anise, so I’m ruling her out, and I don’t know of any other mesmers. But I agree that it wasn’t Caith. She was acting very strange from the very beginning of the episode. Following you around, ignoring the meeting with DE, and was more then a bit “off”.

I don’t think it was a mesmer pretending to be Caithe, but very much the real thing, and it’s been hinted at for awhile now, Caithe has been with us since season 1 and had a more prominent role than the rest of Destiny’s Edge.

The fact that we’ll be revisiting Caithe’s past also tells me that it’s definately going to be the real her and we’ll find out her motivations from her past.

The fact that we’re going to see Caithe’s story in next patch makes me think that it’s indeed her the one that stole the egg.

That said, we might be surprised… maybe the whole backstory will be a way to say “see, there’s no way she could have done it and the only reason we haven’t seen her yet is that she’s now chasing the one that really did it”… maybe certain mesmer that has a reputation of being secretive and mysterious and that we already saw before disguised as a sylvari?…

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Faolain is in Caithe’s past.

Faolain is a mesmer.

Faolain did it.

We’re going into Caithe’s past to determine when Faolain turned evil, thus finding a cure for the Nightmare as well as Faolain’s secret abode where she took the egg.

Clearly.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

It was Caithe and she did it because the egg somehow can save Faolain

Both Caithe and Faolain seem like possible Caithe impostors, but I personally hope that Anise is the culprit. She has been shaping her accomplice, Canach, for certain unidentified tasks in the world of Tyria. Canach pairing up with Caithe may be in order to distract her long enough for Anise to infiltrate Destiny’s Edge in order to steal the egg.

-If Caithe really stole the egg, then I’d be inclined to believe it was done out of passion to save Faolain or the Pale Tree. These story lines would best fit the current theme of yet more showcasing for Tyria’s newest race.

-If it was Faolain, I’d imagine the egg to be used for more corruption or for making an amazing salad. Idk.

-If Anise stole the egg, I’d think this would lead to many twists and turns as the politics of Tyria become intertwined as the alliances forced between the races could become unstable; Anise stealing the egg could lead to a much larger conflict that would impact the world more than the linear battle against another dragon.

These are my speculations based on personal opinion.
