Something that kept jumping in my mind ever since Episode 4, what if Caithe is actually Faolain, we know for a fact Faolain is a Mesmer so it is not impossible for her to disguise herself as Caithe to mislead us.

I cant help but feel that it is entirely plausible that we are looking at this from the wrong angle.

Caithe doesn’t openly stalk you, she doesn’t act queerly in front of others.

That said, when she said no time to explain I still wonder if this is genuine Caithe but she deceived us for some benevolent albeit very foolish idea such as trying to solo care for the egg.

It’s possible. Although…that begs a few questions…

- What has she been doing all this time between all this? She’s been out of the pictur since Twilight Arbor’s story mode.
- Why infiltrate the Pact personally? After all this time letting her minions do the job for her, it seems a tad out of character for her to be doing the hands on stuff now.
- Since her only real goal so far has been turning Caithe evil, would she really care enough afterwards to maintain the guise that Caithe was still with them when she probably isn’t?

Well, with regards to the last point, Faolain knows that if she can isolate Caithe from the rest of her friends, she’ll have a much easier time convincing Caithe to “join the dark side”. As such, it MIGHT have been Faolain at work, intending to blackmail Caithe later with the old “Your friends will never take you back. You’ve always been sneaky and suspicious. They’ll never believe your innocence. Stay here with me, dearheart. You know I’ll always love you.”

That said, my personal theory is more that it’s either Canach or Anise disguised as Caithe who took the egg, or Caithe does indeed know something about why she had to take the egg. (It would be a glorious twist if an upcoming LS chapter reveals that YOU have become corrupted/influenced by Mordremoth after stepping into Omadd’s machine, and Caithe has to keep the egg safe from you, because the moment it falls into your hands, Mordremoth will seize mental control of you and direct you to bring the egg to him.)

I was expecting the very same thing! It wouldn’t surprise me if Modremoth tried to control us.

But I thought that maybe Caithe might take the egg and run to Faolain. As baseless as this might sound, it might “purify” her? But then that’s just positive thinking on my part. What you say is the most likely direction of the story.

Might be my imagination but the few voice lines we hear Caithe say sound more like Faolain to me. Not to mention the second I saw Caithe following me I Immediately thought impostor.

She did acted really strange this time and she has been so weird ever since we arrived to the Silverwastes land.
My thought is that Caithe might be somehow brainwashed, controlled by Mordremoth.
I do hope it has to do something about the Nightmare Court since I absolutely love them. Faolain need a bigger role in the story, specially when Mordremoth is on the loose!
I am really exciting about the next story...

Heh, I knew I should’ve checked the forums more thoroughly before replying to the other spoiler thread about the possibility of Caithe being Faolain in disguise. Oh well.

Anyway, to answer two of the points you made, Nilkemia:

Unless I misremember, didn’t the writers state at some point that Scarlet made a deal with Faolain so she could use one of the Twilight Arbor paths for her factory? Depending on the canon status of the path the Twilight Assault update supplanted and at which point in the timeline this deal would’ve been made, it indicates that Faolain may have been involved with TA even since the story path while the three Courtiers were having their power struggles in the Explorable paths. The Toxic Courtiers, however, are questionable as they were said to be a splinter group, so either they assisted Scarlet during Nightmare Tower under Faolain’s blessing, or were opportunists emerging after TA story and hoping to gain the upper hand in the Court’s inner power struggle since Faolain’s sudden departure.

With that said, I think it’s possible that, considering the opportunistic moves made by the three high-ranking Courtiers in TA Explorable and our interest in defeating them in said paths, Faolain might’ve wanted to stay in the shadows and let us clean the mess for her while waiting for her time to strike as everyone’s attention would be elsewhere. Thus her ambushing Caithe while the latter was focusing on Shadow of the Dragon in the aftermath of the World Summit (assuming that was still the real Caithe) would work as neither Caithe nor us would see such a surprise attack from a long-dormant enemy coming. Plus Caithe being separated from her friends would make her more vulnerable if Faolain and her minions managed to block her escape; as seen in Twilight Assault, Caithe can be reckless when she gets emotional, which can lead to her being captured.

There are a couple of ways this could work storywise.

First of all, the power struggles in TA explorable showed us that the Court was splintering with at least three major factions within it vying for power under their chosen Courtier. Perhaps as a result of her “defeat” in TA story, Faolain lost simply too many minions to her upstart rivals and would now have to get her hands dirty.

There’s also the fact that perhaps out of all the mesmers in the Court, Faolain would know Caithe the best (to emulate both her mannerisms and fighting style) from their travels together as dearhearts, which would help her infiltrate the Pact with more ease and not even look suspicious in the eyes of as close comrades as Destiny’s Edge. The only thing she’d fail at was keeping her true personality in check, which she couldn’t do fully as seen from her occasional snide comments during this update (such as calling us ‘boss’ in a somewhat condescending tone if you talk to her at the end of the Camp Resolve instance).

While I was doing the LS I noticed that Caithe was following me as I moved through Camp Resolve. I tried to interact with her before being prompted to by the story, and her ambient dialogue was like, “don’t mind me” or something to that effect. I thought it was super fishy. I had a feeling for a whiiiile now that Caithe shouldn’t be trusted. Lo and behold lol…

I would have been less weirded out if she followed me more closely. Cause then it would have seemed like we were moving together. But she kept her distance, and when I interacted with her no dialog box popped up, just her saying “don’t mind me.”

Caithe’s behaviour and speech seems normal during the chapter where you rescue her and Canach from the Mordrem. But she does seem very odd during the new Camp Resolve story instance. I can’t really imagine Caithe calling me “boss”, for one thing. It does lend credence to the theory that it’s someone else disguised as her.

Just some thoughts and questions. First of all what did Scarlett promise the nightmare court, the inquest and all the other races for working together with her? I guess it wouldn’t be tempting for those groups if she only promised to wake a dragon and turn them into slaves. What if she promised them control over a Dragon? I guess there was something hinted on one of those letters you find on drytop. (Not that she promised that, more like we must be faster than those who seek control over the dragons.)

So what if – now that Scalett is dead and Mordemorth doesn’t seem very contollable – these groups seek the egg for their own reasons?

Aerin was not from the nightmare court he was a soundless or at least it was hinted that he was.

Scarlet also said the secret was something that neither the Pale Tree nor Faolain knew. If the secret is that Caithe was working for Faolain all along, I think Faolain would know it.

Scarlet also said the secret was something that neither the Pale Tree nor Faolain knew. If the secret is that Caithe was working for Faolain all along, I think Faolain would know it.

Glint didn’t really die, she killed Caithe and then assumed her identity and faked her own death. She stole the egg because she wanted it back!

Just kidding. A slightly more plausable secret would be that Caithe found the other pale tree and is secretly working for it and that pale tree wants the egg!

I’m 99.9% that’s Faolain.

But anyway, I was actually thinking something along the lines of this yesterday. The new labyrinth has the Nightmare pods, not Mordrem pods. And I think Caithe either stole the egg for Faolain or Faolain impersonated Caithe. Personally, I’m thinking that it’s Faolain impersonating as Caithe because she was captured off camera during the Aether path. That gives plenty of time to pull a Mesmer impersonation. As for why she stole the egg? I’m thinking it’s because of Mawdrey and Caithe’s Blossom. Not specifically Mawdrey and the Blossom but because of the flavor text. Caithe’s Blossom was the reward for EP5, and the text is how Caithe isn’t her dearheart anymore. Why would that even be a flavor text if not for a tease for upcoming attractions? And then Mawdrey’s was something along the lines of how the vine came from Mord but was grown by a good guy. What if Faolain took the egg to bring to her Pale Tree to grow into a Nightmare consumed dragon?

Faolain was wearing the TA Light armor in TA Story, but her hairstyle and glow does seem to match.

The flavour text for Caithe’s Blossom is a quote from one of Caithe’s lines in TA Story. In fact, all the dungeon collection trinkets bear a quote taken from the villain in the Story Mode:

Adelbern’s Burden – “You will join my kingdom! You, and all the world of the living!”
DeLana’s Coin Purse – “Fools! You’ve let her slip her bonds!”
Kudu’s Phasing Matrix – “You realise I have an army of golems on my side.”

etc. etc.
