Did you really expect ANet to rework most of the Hearts, events, NPC dialogue, ambient dialogue and the Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon? O.o Not to mention it would feel extremely weird to a new Charr player who just came out of the catacombs fighting Barradin’s ghost and suddenly everybody’s talking about how ghosts were put to rest years ago.

The best we could have hoped for was that the attempt to break the Foefire curse only freed SOME of the ghosts, removing/replacing certain Hearts or events.

It was never going to work anyway. He wasn’t the rightful king.

Why make sense, when it’s so much more fun to make nonsense?

To be fair the ending DID make it rather clear that this was not the end. So I wouldn’t say it is all decided yet.

Do you guys not notice that the The Dragon’s Reach is actually split into four episodes? Yes, according to their release page they say that the back item will change throughout parts 3 and 4. I highly doubted that he would solve the whole FoeFire curse in one episode when they’re splitting it into 4 parts.

What he said. It’s definitely not over yet. You’ll have to wait for your cataclysmic changes.

I take it no noticed that right after Smodur said it failed, he also said it wasn’t over.

For all we know, the sword’s wielder chasing the sword into the mist may very well be part of the cleansing. If one doesn’t have the courage to jump into the mists alone in order to break the curse, what right do they have to be the King?

isn’t he in the wrong place to lift the curse? It states it has to be lifted in Ascalon City. You would think the best place to lift the curse would be the place where the curse was first cast since that would be the strongest spot

True, but if iirc, Rytlock did say that the tomb was a place of power and a good place to “test” if his plan would work…

You know that moment got me think what if Rytlock returns later with not only Sohothin but also Rurik himself from the mist so Rurik can help remove the curse of Ascalon.

Of course that may lead to a battle between Rurik and his father King Adelbern while we fight the Ghosts still loyal to King Adelbern but with a twist that we will have Ascalonian Ghost allies in this fight since some may have sided with Rurik to end the curse so they can finally enter the mist.

Rytlock better come back. What they did is the equivalent of killing off their Mascot, and last I checked, people actually like Rytlock.

Without Rytlock, who will there be plushies to huggie, or SAB critters to rampage?

I believe it’s just a play on words and otherwise not very important. If you’re in the area of which the Foefire has taken place, I doubt the ritual would be picky about its exact location down to the foot.

Im glad they went the way they did. The foefire curse shouldnt have been broken as a retaliation of an elder dragon. It needs to be its own focus, with its own lengthy convoluted storyline and heroes of its own.

Not some kind of double episode featurette. that would make the 250 years of foefire suffering just summed up and solved in a month pretty non-climactic, and not representative of the actual amount of strife the foefire curse causes everyone in the area of ascalon.

I do believe they are definitely going to reverse the Foefire. The fact it ended like it did is even more proof. Why? Because they’re going a break after this. More time to rework all those hearts and events.

AC should not be effected though, considering it’s an instance, and therefore experiencing something that’s passed anyway. A new path would be a more likely option.

Also how do we know it didn’t work, maybe Rytlock is in the mists right now completing phase B through D of the curse breaking ritual.

To be fair the Personal Story is locked in time.
It takes place two years prior to the current events and since it is all instanced it would still work with ghosts in there.

Hearts and stuff in the open world is another matter though.

heres a possibility:

charr wipes out ghosts, it worked!

charr keeps crown, it powerful and human not trustable with it

certain humans fight charr as a result

all the ghost related hearts n stuff get replaced by simple standard humans fighting the charr and anyone that doesnt believe in (essentially) violent, terrorist-like retribution just gets started on.

Which it did sort of, a lot of ghosts were apparently permanently destroyed.

I want to point out how important that last bit is. They have NEVER been able to permanently destroy any of the Foefire ghosts before. Contain or disperse them, but never flat out destroy.

This is the starting point. Even if the ritual didn’t do what they hoped it would, it’s shown them a way to destroy the ghosts. If they can do it a few more times, they can figure out what the ritual is doing, and find a way to recreate the process. Then comes the machines that duplicate that process.

It will take time, maybe another 100 years, but it has started.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

It was never going to work anyway. He wasn’t the rightful king.

There’re 2 theories we have to work with now:

- The true king is that who weilds Sohotin → I don’t like this one, really unlikely-
- Rytlock was at exactly the best place to perform that ritual. Why? Simple, Rurik is not the true king but Duke Barradin. If you followed the story on Gw1 you’d know that Adelbern didn’t get the crown from his father or something like that, but he was instead chosen by the people; at that time, Duke Barradin was the true heir of Ascalon’s crown.

Now, following the second theory, since Rytlock is in the mists he may find Duke Barradin himself and bring his spirit to break the curse.

Correct me if i’m wrong somewhere and let’s keep discussing theories!

Arenanet took the easiest way out that they possible could. We all speculated the massive amount of work that would be required to the game if Ascalon was ever freed from its curse; Arenanet knowing this, took the easiest way out possible.

It’s depressing, really. The chances of Ascalon ever being freed being revisited… ever, are slim to none, especially with all of the work that would need to be done. Though, you could simply move Ascalonian Catacombs into Fractals of the Mists dungeons, which is the main issue.

Sucks that Charr are forever kittened. :/

Wow someone is salty cause a group of dev didnt wast million man hours reworking an area do to some story events. Like a guy said did you really expect them to sink a 90 hours into reworking a boat load of events?
