[Spoilers] What if they took their time?
Good point. Basically, Trahearne was hoping for a preemptive strike to stop it before it could fully spread, but…it was executed badly.
How was he sure the dragon was there, in that random jungle?
After seeing those giant vines all over the place, he should’ve at least expected something like what happened to transpire, maybe have a back-up plan?
The only thing he couldn’t count on is the other sylvari on the ship suddenly turning on them…provided he isn’t under its influence or fell shortly after. I’m sure he wasn’t, or Eir would’ve gotten a nasty stab in the back…but who knows.
Zhaitan took a lot of the Pact’s numbers. With an added layer of cheesecake, that we don’t even know how Mordremoth works and how he does the things he does.
Weirdly enough, I think the Mord sorta planned this.
If everyone is correct in the fact that when one dragon dies, the others get more powerful. I bet that is why Trahearne’s wild hunt was to kill Zaitan.
Thus Mord, gained in strength, and then was awoken. I’m almost betting the dragon was hoping Trahearne would attack, as it could easily take control of the Sylvari and surprise attack everyone.
If they had taken too long, I think Mord would have just taken control anyways and attacked. Seems really, that Mord just gave the Pact a false sense of security that it was weak to goad them into attacking first.

Pretty sure Traehearne’s wild hunt was to cleanse Orr, if I remember correctly

I think Caithe’s hunt was killing Zhaitan, all tips lead to your characters hunt is killing mordremoth.

Yes Caithe’s Wyld Hunt is / was to “kill a dragon.” The wiki says that dragon was Zhaitan, but I don’t think there is actually anything in game that confirms this.

…
Yes, me
He said whole the time there is a short time window for the attack. But we don’t know why! Maybe he was frustrated, that his commanders were running for eggs.
The impression I got too was that the losses were at least as much from a significant portion of the crew turning as it was the direct dragon attacks.
There was no way to predict or react to that happening in those particular circumstances.
