Why is it a problem if people miss something? i mean, it’s a bit selfish to say that when ýou’re gone other people cant play anything new untill ur back :/. If there is new content released for people that don’t go on holiday while u are gone what’s the big problem?

I prefer 1 month. It’s great that they work so hard to bring content… but you don’t get to enjoy it if they bring it so fast and it’s constantly replaced as everything is temporal.

Instead of enjoying it, you rush it so you get all the achievements and items and it feels more like a work because you have no time.

1 month content is fine. Even a bit longer.

The problem with missing something is that we are left with hearing stories only about how awesome a content was. Maybe its fine for some, but personally for me its as bad as movie spoilers, well maybe worse because movie spoilers, i can still watch the movie later. Also the rewards, theyre unique for the specific event, say that it has design or whatever that you would really like, that matches with the goal set for the aesthetics of ur toon, and u missed it, not because it was any fault of urs, other things intervene.. and we r spose to be just happy with that?

that said, 1 months? 2 weeks? 1 day even? I really dont give a good godkitten how often new stuff comes out as long as its not too ridiculously long. I do mind if we are not allowed to go after the events+its rewards at a pace of our own choosing.

2 weeks. Even if I can’t play for 2 weeks there’s going to be so much other content it won’t even matter. Not like I’m going to leave for vacation on a Tuesday and come back exactly 2 weeks later on another Tuesday. Seems like you’d actually have to try to miss the living story. Even if my cat died I’d still have 15 minutes to play during a 2 week period.

Well, the question is a bit misleading.

What I want, is for the release schedule, and the amount of time required to complete the Living Story and it’s achievements to be at a pace that allows the largest percentage of players the chance to experience it.

As well, I would like the content to not overwhelm the rest of the game, so players can still continue to experience the rest of Tyria without feeling like they constantly have to choose.

So, if they choose to release new content every two weeks, but make the time required to experience it and/or get the achievements to be within reason, cool.

If the content and/or achievements remain time consuming, then they need to make sure the content remains in the game long enough to allow everyone the maximum chance to experience it.

That’s all I would like.

I want whatever is suitable for the content. Aetherblades has some good bits, but would have benefitted from more story, bigger build up. Instead, it’s a rushed piece of storytelling with a decent dungeon and some pointless achievement tick box exercises.

The noir scene was excellent and really looked like it was going to set up one of hell of an experience. Except, it didn’t and fell flat on its face with a half hearted bit of story, with no satisfactory explanation as to what/why things were happening.

I know they are taking forum feedback, but 2 week updates wasn’t what we asked for. Just non rushed, quality content.

So far Living Story is a concept simply not fulfilling its existence in any way. I hope it pans out eventually, but sometimes you need to brake to go forward..

We dont know how the updates will even work, how long they will last, how much content will be included, if they will overlap or be independent of each other.

I think this question can only be answered after we experience a few of the 2 week updates.

But as of now I welcome more content at a faster pace long as the quality is not affected.

1 month, With 1 month you can get a much bigger patch update. Way more content. Not go kill this and look for shards, but instead go kill this, look for shards, go into tower and explore, cleanse area of toxins, Kill Scarlet(had to throw that in there) but the point it you have much more stuff to do instead of just twirling your thumbs waiting for next week.

The problem with making updates that come only once a month is that a lot of people will be bored after a week and they’d end up having mini updates every 2 weeks to keep people interested all over again. Remember, they arrived at their 2 week schedule based on the number of people who stopped logging in about a week or 2 after an update.

Monthly would work much better.

If you look at the release notes last year and compare it to the latest you will see a massive difference in quality and quantity.

The living story often suffers from having shallow content often lacking any kind of meaty filler. The extra time would be used well and undoubtedly be more fulfilling and longer lasting.

Remember, they arrived at their 2 week schedule based on the number of people who stopped logging in about a week or 2 after an update.

Does their statistic account for the people that stopped logging in because of the 2 week schedule is the question.

Maybe early this year that was their conclusion, but please look at the source data. It must be based on the time before Southsun because that is when the 2 week schedule started. The living story updates before then didnt have as much to do as the ones since summer, so people feel less forced to log on daily. The thing is, do they want someone to burn out in 3 months of daily playing or keep that player with 5 day/week but for years to come?

To be honest Molten Facility aside the content provided during F&F was too drawn out and little – but they’ve overcompensated wildly and the pendulum has swung to the other side and lodged itself in the wall. They need to loosen it up and let it swing back towards the middle imo.

So they can release content every two weeks by all means but have that content remain in game for at least month so that people don’t have to rush things or miss out on content because they have a busy couple of weeks at work or go on vacation.

I prefer Living Story to be released in a 1 month period in which parts of it patch up by time and larger content is released slower.
Here are my reasons:
1. In a 1 month period ArenaNet has more time to develop the story better then in 2 weeks deadline killing schedule.
2. Releasing small parts of the content piece by piece ( like they did with 2012 halloween) will prevent the first day rush to complete achievements, and most important will let us the players digest the story.
3. We won’t need to chase these achievements in the panic we are now.

definitely 1 month with better content. But I also want balance patches every mid month.

Given the recent class imbalance, it appears that Anet really have no way to testing out the balanced changes themselves. It is much better to release the small incremental changes often so players can help give feedback, instead of a massive balance patch every 3 month, that completely destroy the game balance.

One month. It’s what we’re getting at the moment anyways, just behind a thinly veiled curtain called Time-Gating content.

Seriously, think back to the previous Living Stories.
Dragonbash? It was essentially one large update split over two updates.
Zephyr Santum? Again, one large update split into two.
Queen’s Jubilee? Seeing a pattern here?
Tower of Nightmares? Well you needn’t really think about this one, considering we are literally being given half of a content patch, since we can’t even interact with the twoer until the next update.

I’d rather they just release new updates every month in large, bulk sizes, and perhaps do some minor mechanical and gameplay tweaks every two weeks. Right now, they’re not really fooling anyone with this “New content every two weeks”, when it’s pretty obvious they’re simply taking one month’s worth of content and cutting it in half.

Problem with temp content… I was burnt out by the time the 1st living story hit, the go fix the sing posts after the karka invasion. I said yup, kitten that, and took a few months off. I’d much rather go back to one month updates.

Even if it was the same amount of content we currently get per month having everything up for 1 month would give us more flexibility in how we complete it and reduce the risk of players missing out if they can’t play at a specific time.

Maybe occasional updates could be split into two – for example the Halloween update could still have most of the content coming at the start and then Mad King Thorn appearing at the end.

Others could be split or gated in other ways. For example instead of giving Marjory our spores and then having to wait until the next update for her to find a way into the tower we could unlock the interior by completing the meta achievement (or a dedicated achievement track), with each thing we did giving her more information to use in finding a way in.

The important thing for me is it would give players more flexibility. If they want to do the whole thing in one mammoth play session once a month they can. If they want to spread it out they can do that instead. Rather having having to stick to a pre-determined schedule.

Don’t sweat it, you didn’t miss much. Just go do the current event and imagine that instead of a Toxic Alliance its the Molten alliance, Dredge and Flamelegion, or the Aetheblades, which are pirates and inquest. Then look at your achievement list, where it says Toxic alliance Slayer replace that with Aethetherblade slayer and so on, you’ll get the idea.

Or you can just go play the vanilla version of the game, heart quests, world events, Spvp, WvW, or dungeons/fractals and enjoy yourself.

In all honesty, probably 1 month for the length of a living story and then probably a 2 week ‘break’ between living stories and new content. As it is, I feel pressured into going for achievements and rushing to do them in such a short timeframe, and then after that living story, another set of goals comes up. I know I don’t ‘have’ to do them, but in a way to keep up you really do to a degree. With breaks in between we can relax and just play the rest of the existing content. And yes, I also would like some of the living content that is introduced to become permanent.

The living content should also be introducing storied instances that remain in the game permanently, and where players, new and old, can progress through the living storylines in the proper story order. Just met a player yesterday that had no idea who Scarlett was and he was flamed by virtually everyone on the map for his ‘ignorance’. If the living story had storied instances such that players could enter the instances and complete quests, then they could progress through the main portions of the actual story so as to be brought up to speed with everyone else.
