Why should Living Story be permanent? IMO it shouldn’t.

Living Story is meant to bring a little bit of realism to Tyria. Let’s use historical WWII for example IRL. Would you want WWII to be permanent for all the newborn babies to experience it? I would think not.

Living Story is hard to accomplish because you have Zhaitan as the Big boss. Where does living story fit in? During Zhaitan’s occupation or after Zhaitan’s death? How do the player’s that have beaten Zhaitan experience this Living Story?

It is complicating for Role players and for those who want to immerse themselves into the game.

I think the majority of whiners on the forums don’t give a crap about the lore and are just whining about missing out on achievement points and how hard it is to get them. Players are given weeks to complete this content so why complain?

I applaud Anet for giving us a challenge and something different from the standard grinding of PvE mobs. It is good to hear that more permanent content is coming, but temporary content should always come at a bi-weekly or monthly basis.

i think living story should be temporary and it should lead to new, permanent content.

expample:
bazar of the four winds (temporary), leads to elections (temporary), leads to new councilor (permanent), and may lead to a new zone, Crystal Desert, what should be a permanent zone but may contain temporary content in the beginning, such as living story events, and then become permanent similar to southsun cove.

Hey, you know what else would bring a little bit of realism? Perma-death. If your character dies, it’s gone. Say goodbye to all your stuff. Roll up a new character. Start over.

How’s that sound? Real enough for ya?

thats kinda like hardcore mode in the Diablo series. u think they should have that as an option for gw? i mean for all u know, the realist entusiast might actually love having this mode, Anet could even tag achievements to it…

You’re right, of course; there probably would be some people that would like it. The same kind of people that enjoy going to the dentist for long, slow root canals. :-P

Personally, I wouldn’t mind if perma-death were an option. I wouldn’t choose it, mind you. But I’m all in favor of having choices. For example, the choice of when I complete Living World story content. Which, at the moment is very limited. Being temporary and all.

a beacon on map is realism to game.. ok that is the gw2 players experience … and im a sad panda to know what kind of community anets wants.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.

Hahaha, well far be it for me to tell what is fun for some people eh? My overall preference for “realism” would be having hot chick toons that aren’t as cartoony as WoW… yea thats about it.

That said, and on to the OP topic, permanent>temporary, for me. Because its nice to come back to the game after a long break and see so much NEW stuff to do rather than coming back and seeing so much stuff you missed and CANNOT do anymore while overall game is baarely improved/changed.

I like the LS for the most part and am pretty fine with things being temp. Am I bummed that I missed F&F/the mining pick/etc, a little, but real life is more important than a video game.

Not too excited for the election, but that’s just do to personal tastes, and the only “cool” thing that I can thing of is already kinda leaked on the forums (that we can possibly choose the outcome though I wonder if that would be done by server or over all of the servers).

But I would like if something with each living story became permanent, just so those that take a break can at least see the world being added to when they come back. And thankfully we’ve been seeing that, Aetherblades added a new JP, this LS is adding the new mini game (maybe 2, not sanctum sprint, the other one in the achievement tab that we can’t play yet). Though I would like a little more to be added each time (I love the new zone/movement skills, will be sad to see it gone for a while), but I’m just happy to see things heading in that direction.

I think the living story happens in the lore after we kill Zhaitan (otherwise I would have figured that during dragon bash he would have been the holographic dragon killed), and I’d say we’re moving towards killing Kralkatorrik (between dragon bash having a holo shatterer, and now the Zephyrites singing about Glint). I hope that is where the living story is taking us (still can’t wait for my Norn to smack Jormag good).
