Temporary content. Your thoughts?
Temporary content is not healthy to the game IMO as is “lost content”, living story should be a way to improve Tyria world and expand it if necessary (to other continents or islandss) add new storylines messing with character history and findindg new paths, theres LOADS of stuff they could to add more immersive content to pve and WvW.
ah i forgot… themepark engine could not support that immersive content :,(
P.S what if dragons started to rampage radomly in tyria??i believe would be a good suprise for the players in that instance.

Picture this:
The game two years from now.
1. Every two weeks new content is added. It is temporary.
2. Every two weeks new content is added. It is permanent.
A new player starts playing the game. In the first case, the game has about the same amount of things to do as it had at release. In the second case, there are two years worth of new content that was added every two weeks.
In which case is the new player less likely to run out of things to do?
Perhaps I’m missing something that is obvious. If so, please point it out to me. But I don’t see how the game grows in content overall if the content is not kept in the game.
I’m not a fan of temporary content (holiday events notwithstanding). It strikes me as a Zynga-type method of making players feel punished for not logging in to play.
Agreed. +1
New and returning players should get to experience and earn all the in-game achievements even if they miss something. Also it’s unfair for ArenaNet to penalize players who go about content at their own pace or are simply unable to abide by a silly content release schedule. If interested I’ve posted some possible suggestions to mend this issue here- https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Revisiting-Past-Temporary-Content

I’ve already missed 3 of the patches. because i took a break from the game. Im currently in the process of re-rolling a character too. Looks like i wont be seeing the bazzar of the four winds before they close it off.
Why are entire zones being closed off after an event is over? Patches should be permanently expanding the game.
It’s a pretty easy answer:
worst … idea … ever.
We had a small survey within our guild and pretty much everyone is against the temporary nature of the updates. It severely limits the amount of enjoyment one gets out of an update, if you cannot log sufficient hours within 2 weeks.
I can understand it, from Anet’s point of view: try to get as much players to come back to the game as frequently as possible. However, with pushing it from 1 month to 2 weeks, they might have crossed the line and a lot of people will just give up on it entirely. Especially with the usual summer activity dip due to holidays, a lot of people will miss a lot of content, and they won’t be happy about it.
Holiday events like Halloween or Wintersday should be temporary, but yearly recurring events. All the rest should just be a permanent add-on to the game.
I dislike the temporary content because it does not allow me to play the game at my own pace.
I enjoy playing GW2 for a few hours a week, and in that time I like to do as much as possible.
I do not like being forced to play content that will be here today and gone tomorrow.
I also do not like playing content that has none to little effect on the game world, there is nothing “living” about it.
I feel I have to link this here :
The Future of Guild Wars 2
I strongly dislike temporary content. It discourages new players, as they have already missed a huge chunk of the story, and do not have the ability to relive that story.
Arena.Net could fix this, by just leaving the content permanently.
Yesterday, I realized that I had close to nothing done in the last patch, so I rushed to every cache, and farmed aetherblades and got the achievements, to at least get my mini. BUT: I tried to play the Aetherblade retreat, and my party had a bad communication and coordination, and so the instance leader just left us, kicking us from the instance. Then, I had to leave, because of real life activities. And now I will never experience the dungeon.
This sucks. I want to experience every single bit of the game, as it is my favourite MMORPG, and now I can’t. Next month, I will be on vacation. I will miss an entire content patch, which I will never revisit again.
Sure, I see the business side of things, Arena.Net has now a nice tool to force players to log in every two weeks, and hope that they spend some money. I do not like that. It is so farmvilleish. Oh your crops rotted. Oh, so did your content patch.
So please give us players an opportunity to experience everything, even if we were inactive. I have friends that once played Guild Wars 2, but now they do not even bother to log back in, and why should they? Some missed entire 6 months of content.
Temporary Content is for festivals, not for Story! If you missed one festival, ok, the content which makes the game fun is still there for you. At least, that’s how it is with other games. Or the original Guild Wars. So please, do not destroy the game in pursuit of short term profits, because if this trend continues, I guess a huge chunk of the playerbase will break away and the server-merges will begin. And then it is just a few months until shutdown.
