The testing golem inside the special forces training area serves a critical function: allowing people to test out builds & practice their rotation. There are just two problems: the interface is horribly clunky and it’s not really a test golem.

I’d like to see a new arena with the following features:

  • Gear works like PvP: you can choose any prefix or suffix for testing; it works only in the training area.
  • You can choose any food buff (not by food name, but by buff).
  • Instead of series of nested dialogues, you’d be presented with a single interface, similar to our option menu, so you’d be able to (for example)
    • Set golem size to small|medium|large
    • Set buffs all|each individual one

This would allow people more flexibility in testing, before needing to invest gold and time into different gear.

This is a really good idea.

I’ve been put off using the test golem because of the confusing interface and the fact that you have to actually get a full build in order to test it. I think it’d be much better if we could quickly swap builds – only in this area – to see the effect before we go and actually buy/craft/earn all the kit.

I agree that it could use a lot of improvements, probably most important would be the ability to try out other stat combinations.

From what I’ve heard it could also use some other improvements, such as offering a 40-50million health golem to better simulate an actual raid boss.

The UI could be vastly streamlined ( like that warning on profession buffs.. just make it red text in the option box). Something like the options dialog would be good, with a form using tick boxes ( or sliders for might?). Then just have a “boon section” and “class x buffs” for groupings with a subheading.

greater free-form on gear/runes/sigils along with “consumable buffs” would be amazing too.

Only downside is the arena currently I think is flagged as a raid map, and this level of sweeping improvements might justify flagging the map as its own game type (so consumable buffs can’t be grabbed and then carried over to other instances).

If that’s a problem then it could just as easily not have consumable and food buffs for free for testing purposes. To me, being able to freely select your stats would be vastly more important.
