I got through my anger and got passed a bad camera bit in the end, although yes that’s a good idea. It shouldn’t be the solution mind you…although I might keep a tonic on me for when I retry (I got lost and ended up off the track completely)

It took me over an hour of casually exploring the place, it’s a really amazing puzzle to be honest. I bet Sir. Foreman is responsible for this puzzle :P I also liked the ending reveal, although you could guess what it would be if you talk to a certain NPC. It reminded me a bit of when I first did the pirate puzzle in LA around launch time. There are some seriously epic caverns in this zone.

Naaaah.

Much-much-much longer. And the difficulty doesn’t lie in the jumps (mostly – there are a few hard jumps) it’s more of the maze-likeness and the hugeness of the area.

It’s magnitude in itself is very impressive.

I have to say, I LOVED this JP. I fell a couple times, but I absolutely loved the “save skritt,” and even got rezzed by one when I fell. I did cheat a bit at the end and watched the video to see which holes to jump through. Am I right in thinking that the wrong holes set you back and force you to retry a portion? If so, I’m not a fan of that sort of gameplay, since you can’t get it “right” on the first try, it’s all just guess and memorize. I prefer content where you can intuit which path to take the first time through, rather than just random chance.

It’s not really so much a jumping puzzle as a zone-wide jumping achievement.

I think after the 3rd flag you’re supposed to go down somewhere and jump the pillars that were featured in many of the “map break” videos. But I’m still unsure how I got there, I just fell down somewhere. It happened a few other times as well, I just went somewhere, fell down, and accidentally found a flag.

I am amazed, stunned! This is best living story ever!

The story line is freakin’ epic, including Caithe in past which is amazingly done well. We got new, “puzzle”/Skritt underground map which simply took my breath away! I can’t see any better possible way to maintain LS chain. Amazing job!

Regarding PvP: Its A LOT more enjoyable than ever! I met people with my rank range and it makes game a lot comfortable. You found best solution for maps: Choosing. That way, everyone can be happy, both haters and fans of “Skyhammer” map.

The wallpaper for this patch is like eye orgasm, its so epic! All that colors and beauty well tailored into war…..

10/10! Keep it up!

Howsoever , new PvP maps are missing here. Current ones are getting quite old and boring so you should introduce at least 5-6 of them soon.

I will make one criticism of the design of the puzzle, and that is that there were a lot of points where the goal was unclear. I mean, if you have a straight jumping puzzle, where the goal is you just keep climbing up until you reach the top, then you don’t need this, but in a meandering up and down puzzle like this one, the goal points should have been more obvious.

I think in a well designed JP, you should always be able to see the goal of a given stage from where you start, so you know “ok, I know I have to get from here to there, now how do I achieve that?” Too often in this JP there were points where the field becomes wide open, and there’s no clear indication of whether you should go down, or try to find a way ever more upwards, or wander off to the side, and you can waste a lot of previous effort if you choose incorrectly.

You are quite right, that’s exactly what they do.

I had blast with them tough, cause we were exploring the JP with a party of 3, I laughed out loud when I saw in party chat “Oh god, not back to the kittening pot again!”.

Of course, playing mesmer before going in a hole helps a lot too

The setbacks if you choose the wrong one is not too bad, you waste more time trying to re-orient

I understand that this might be a negative point for some people, but for me this increased the sense of exploration, I liked it a lot. After all, I usually quickly realised I was going the wrong way because of dead ends. Only in the last part did I waste a lot of time trying to figure out where to go, in the end I skipped a very unclear part with my lightning hammer #2 skill (and helped some others use that skip by providing other lightning hammers).

The team who made this JP is absolutely brilliant. Keep up the great work 10/10

The vastness and depth of this puzzle was amazing, and I really enjoyed the “leap of faith” moves you had to make in order to progress through puzzle as it wasn’t really clear-cut on where to go at certain points. This to me, forced exploration which is always good!

You are quite right, that’s exactly what they do.

Thanks for the confirmation. Now that I’ve cleared it once I might go back and fool with them a bit. Did any of them lead to alternate mini-chests or badges? I noticed that there were at least 2-3 smaller chests along the path of the puzzle already.

I understand that this might be a negative point for some people, but for me this increased the sense of exploration, I liked it a lot.

Fair point, and I do enjoy exploration, but the problem with a long form JP is that it takes a certain amount of time and effort to reach a given point, and “exploring” an incorrect path can sometimes force you to redo a half hour or more of jumping. I think that when there is no “wrong” answer, exploration is great. I loved exploring the ship, for example, but when there are definite “wrong” answers for which you’ll be punished, I’d prefer to have a definite “right” answer within sight, something that you can logic out, rather than guess and check.

I did enjoy the new jumping puzzle, even though I did get hung up at the end and went around and around and around a few times before latching on to someone who knew the way.

I would have enjoyed it even more if I’d noticed I didn’t have to pay the little skritt guy every time I used the tunnels. Woopsie.

There are checkpoints that make it so you don’t need to start over at the beginning.

Sometimes, yes, especially if you fall and die, but not always. Like for example, my first run through I got lost because I ended up on the first “outside” portion, and had no idea where to go, so I ended up near that ancient temple facade near the silver badge location and near the tornado skillpoint. This was entirely the wrong place, but I ended up trying to jump around it, and ended up in a place where I couldn’t get back to where I was and had to redo the entire first portion. No, knowing the checkpoint system, maybe it was possible for me to just snag the nearest skritt hole and hop to the last checkpoint I hit, but if so, I missed that.

Btw, does anyone know how long the checkpoints “save?” I mean, if I get a checkpoint and then come back to the game an hour later does it still hold until a new one overwrites it? A day? A week?

Btw, what are the rules about paying the little guy to use the tunnels? I just paid him a gold, but do they offer reduced services if you pay them less?

I also enjoyed this puzzle, it is almost as good as the Aetherblade puzzle (which is really stellar but very difficult), only much easier. The checkpointing system was perfect, for 1 s it made failure pretty painless. It was very good that the speed buff wasn’t really required (if it was it would have turned into another timed-skill JP and I wouldn’t have been able to explore, or even think)

I really suggest people not look at a walk through, but treat it as an exploration quest. This does require you to remember where you’ve been, which forks you’ve taken, and how to get back to them to take the other path, classic RPG style. Some paths bypass chests (and probably badges), so you have to find all of the paths.

The trial and error at the end was not so fun…it is okay a few times "Ha Ha back to the start!’ but their were a LOT of tunnels to test and memorize. (Hint: There’s only 1 go to jail square and 2 jail cards in Monopoly…what if there were 20?)

The whole thing took about 4 hours for me, 2 hours just on the last section. I found 3 chests, and there are still at least 3 badges that I couldn’t figure out how to reach, yet. There’s also a really long dead path near the end that must have a chest or badge at the end, or maybe it’s just a cruel diversion)

I also enjoyed jumping puzzle very much! I like that this is more time consuming jumping puzzle and not like some short 30min puzzle. It felt like some kind of instance for me. I was grouping with other players and we were helping each other. I enjoyed that.
I also had a bit of frustration when I came to those skritt holes, but I didn’t mind that. It was literally a “puzzle with jumping” and not only “thinking where to jump” type of puzzle.

Although I don’t see much replay value in this particular jumping puzzle, I’m still in love with it. This jumping puzzle was a proper adventure through the explorable depths of Tyria, and was absolutely perfect for any Honorary Skritt like myself. I hope to see more jumping puzzles like this in the future, and perhaps more added replayability to well-designed content like this.

Btw, maybe someone can answer this one for me. Ok,. position yourself at the end of the puzzle, where the chest is. You just came up a long ramp from the NE side of the chamber. Now, look along the opposite wall from where you came in, the NW wall. There is a ramp that leads upwards from there, back into the puzzle shaft. There is a Skritt hole there, but it cannot be interacted with. Is there any way to get this hole to activate? Is it purely decoration, or maybe something they’ll activate later? I tried using it both before and after opening the chest, just in case.

I’d like to add my voice to the chorus of thanks. Two friends and I did this for the first time tonight, and though it took us freakin’ forever, it was great fun.

It’s really more just a puzzle than a jumping puzzle as there wasn’t a lot of jumping per se, nor was most of the jumping at all difficult. It was great fun puzzling out where to go, though.

I thought the skritt mechanics were brilliant as a way to make mistakes not too punishing. Jumping puzzles are my favorite part of this game, but I don’t do the aetherblade puzzle because the consequences of a slip are so dire. This was a nice compromise between “it sucks to be you” and no consequences at all. I definitely plan to head back into this puzzle to learn the way better.

As someone else mentioned, my money is on Josh Foreman being behind this brilliance. Whoever it might have been a deep /bow of gratitude and respect to you!

This JP for me was love at first sight.

The vastness of it, the idea of a huge cave below Silverwastes… It’s amazing and actually very impressive when you first enter the grotto. I don’t know how many hours I spent in there (not for the completion of the puzzle per se, but for the badges).

It actually feels rewarding to jump through that puzzle an pick up badges on the way or specifically looking for them/finding ways to reach them. The moment when you finally pick up that badge that stole precious minutes/hours of your life… Even though I have to admit, with some of the badges it’s more like a love-hate relationship with the devs behind those hiding places (with me occasionally calling them names and doubting their sanity – sorry guys :-P).

Keep up the great work!

I must say I really liked this jumping puzzle. There are so many areas to discover along the way. (I am SO wondering about the ruins inside the puzzle, no clue who built them or their history…please, please we want to know!) Prior to this puzzle while running around Silverwastes, I kept looking up and wondering if we would ever get up to the upper cliffs and we finally were able to! An added bonus would be nice if you got some sort of credit for exploring into niches here and there or finding a bit of a story to follow within the area but not necessarily tied to the jumping puzzle.

For someone who usually fails hard at JPs, I did this last night with two guildie friends and we had a BLAST! Sure, some parts were confusing and there were some points where I fell over and over again and didn’t think I’d make it; only to finally get it and have that sense of achievement!

I also like that it wasn’t ALL jumping. Some of it was “Where do I go now? Do I dare explore the area down there or will it lead to a dead end?” and that was probably the best part. Thank you ANet! This JP, while long, is probably my fave now!
