As a huge critic of the previous LS (rest in pieces scarlet), I have to say that this season has been awesome! Dry Top is a wonderfully crafted map, not to mention it is rewarding. The story is interesting and I loved a new take on some of the missions rather than just facerolling everything you see.

So thanks and great work!

Most importantly, Countess Anise forever that is all.

And yeah that boss fight was actually a lot of fun, although a little diversity with the vines would have been nice I think.

This is my favourite episode of season 2 yet! Every part of it was amazing really. I loved the investigation of the party and the various bits of dialogue from the foppish nobles with their scandalous gossip. It inspired me to do the whole thing walking, took me quite some time! ^^ I think the dialogues were very well written/voiced throughout the episode. I like it that several characters really sound distressed in their respective parts, that adds so much atmosphere. I loved how Taimi did something stupid and childish (very much in-character for her) and got into trouble because of it! Even Trehearne didn’t make me go aaargh.

Boss battles had cool mechanics and the end boss looked especially awesome! The cinematic vision was gorgeous and mysterious. I loved all the little lore details, such as Knut Whitebear emphasizing that he didn’t command an army but instead had to convince the Norn that they would earn great reknown by fighting against Mordremoth. Or that in the end battle some racial leaders had their guard protecting them, while the Norn and Charr leaders with their more warrior-oriented cultures were first into the fray themselves! Also addressing the various leaders’ concerns was really nice. And the newest part of Dry Top is gorgeous as ever.

To top that off, the new BL weapons are awesome! I usually dislike weapons with too much glowy effects such as the Molten stuff, but these new ones are quite subtle and look kind of holy, definitely picking one up for my Guardian!

I must say the writting and the pacing of the overall instances remain pretty darn terrible.
The last fight and the return of the Shadow of the Dragon was nice. As was the cutscene design after.

It is a shame they are no longer putting any effort in the plot itself, however it is good to see actually well written characters like Canach and Countess Anise have more time to themselves; Strictly speaking, this whole release felt like filler made purposedly for the sake of the last fight and the introduction of Canach back into a main role, much like Anise.

The summit itself hurt my political sensibilities to the core, someone needs to actually start caring when it comes to making beliveable leader roles.

Let me please express my displeasure about this map. It’s a jumping puzzle, and I hate jumping puzzles. I hate the fact that story line material is taking place in a jumping puzzle.

They used to be optional material, and again, many of us simply can’t do this kitten. We need help, and I mean a LOT of help to move around this map. That takes a LOT of the fun out of the whole game.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

I found this quite boring. If I wanted to play a who done it type game I wouldn’t be playing this game. There is way too much reading and dialog anymore for what is supposed to be a game. Its hard enough trying to remember all the locations in the game, let alone many character names for a story.

The jumping puzzles are also annoying and just make you not want to play. A PC is not designed like a console is for doing tons of jumping. Thats why you don’t see it in other PC games.

Even if it has action combat, it’s still an RPG. Which means that lots of dialogue and text is a good thing. I’m all for even more of it than we already have! ^^

Besides, if you really want to, you can just click through everything, takes a few seconds at most.

Dry Top has one jumping puzzle and it is incredibly short and easy. It is also insanely easy to get around on the map, like I can go from entrance all the way to the new area in no time at all and without ANY jumping puzzles.

I’m glad the majority seems to be really happy with this update. You can’t please everyone, that’s for sure. The dialogue argument is honestly pathetic, just click through it… Sad.

ahah, good to see some janthirs still have a sense of humor
the first thing out of this installment was game text.. i was annoyed at first {my default} then it was actually kinda fun, then i got bored with it.. but then it was fun again.. as for the rest of the release, it had enough fighting and non typical mechanics.. it even had some moments of suspense and the way arena net is approaching the story/characters is finally opening up farther possibilities..

the story journal is a good mix of everything and sorry it isn’t everyone’s favorite flavor, but it’s a vast improvement from what the game has had.. even with that said, i think it’s starting to stand on its own merits..

Are you talking about the entrance to it? because the zone isn’t a jumping puzzle. its more of a spiral. Sure there are jumping puzzle areas but they are also optional paths where you don’t need to jump even once.

I am starting to think either Anet has managed to hit a vein of hype with some minor point of this update, hired people to deflect the walls of hate with randomly positive comments or the floodgates of new players that have barely experienced the game have opened by the end of summer.

It’s not that this is a horrible patch or anything, but this really is an odd amount of random praise when the first one, which arguably brought the most new content, barely got any at all.

Here’s some of my positives:
1. Nice touch going for an Ace Attorney approach in the first episode 2. Plot so far has been pretty interesting, particularly the part with Taimi being stubborn and not willing to give up her invention only to end up with her running away and vulnerable as the Inquest take her down 3. Fantastic boss battle 4. Despite Trahearne being there, I still felt like my character is calling the shots during the summit 5. Fantastic boss battle which I felt would be much more epic if played with a party as opposed to solo (funny)

Here’s some of my negatives, or gripes rather:
1. The impact of Taimi being vulnerable was nice and all especially since Scruffy was taken out. What kind of removed the mood I had was the fact that after the quest, Scruffy practically repaired itself immediately. I'd have liked either 1) have Scruffy destroyed beyond repair or 2) have Scruffy take a while to be repaired or be given significant modifications 2. The investigation part of the episode had a timer, while does make you pick the right choice ASAP but assuming you screwed up, there are no severe consequences to be had. Like what if you failed the interrogation? Surely there are other possible options you can go for to get evidence outside of questioning. 3. Speaking of which, I still miss the one element that stood out in the Personal Story, which is choosing how you would want to approach your objective, which felt the most appropriate in the first mission of this new episode

Overall, I liked it. Not the best update I have seen thus far, but it’s really really good.

Haha what? That’s rather ridiculous. I’m full of praise for this new season, but that doesn’t mean it’s flawless all the time. I’ve played GW2 since release, plenty of experience here. Not everyone is perpetually negative and cynical, despite gaming forums being full of the stuff. I’m not a frequent poster either, it’s just that I wanted to express my enjoyment of what they’re doing with the new season since I think it rocks.

As said, for me the whole season 2 so far has been great with its venturing into unknown lands vibe, only marred by the initial bugs in episode 3. I especially liked this episode in particular, because it featured some of my favourite stuff. It explored human political backstabbing and starred the mysterious countess Anise, one of my favourite characters, in a lead role. There were generally a lot of story elements that I liked. For example listening to each leader’s concerns at the summit, or Taimi doing something stupid and suffering the consequences for it. And then of course the boss battle. I honestly expected just an oversized champion to jump through the roof, not the Shadow Dragon from the Sylvari PS trying to burst into the chamber.

Also, this episode featured positive NPC improvements of characters I normally disliked. Like many people I was never fond of Trahearne, but I didn’t find him annoying even once during this episode, which was quite a positive surprise to say the least. And without entirely changing him, he was still Trahearne, just with better and more believable dialogue. I also never liked Braham, but he has improved quite a bit recently, this episode in particular, he finally got some character.

And this is the part that makes me thing there is an eerie vibe of fakeness to most of the praise lately. I liked the party – it is completely out of the blue when it had already been established the Queen would show up, and felt mostly like filler to present Anise/Canach, but it was still alright. So was the dragon fight; It was obvious the Shadow of the Dragon would show up again, but it was a good introduction. (Relatively, it is awesome gameplay wise, storyline wise it still makes no sense your character is left alone to fight it.)

But the “leader’s concerns”? You mean their incoherent behavior that wouldn’t need a summit to be addressed as common sense, that is magically solved by your character stating “No you are wrong.” and them going “Oh right, I forgot about that thing that happened two minutes ago. Guess we are staying!… For now!” ?
Taimi’s behavior? The biggest cliche in a poor writting setup, rehashed in the most basic and tedius way to then make your battle seasoned commander shrug it off as “oh well lol what can you do”?

I understand tastes be tastes and excitement and whatnot, but I would say there are limits in writting quality anyone should be able to notice, and the blatant amount of pointlessness to most of these things, and the incoherent behaviors of world leaders, fall into those categories.

I think it’s rather preposterous to hint in your post that my praise of the story is somehow fake because I like some parts that you don’t. I’ve been quite fond of the entire new season so far, not just this episode.

As someone who also quite enjoys roleplaying, I’m quite critical about writing and dialogue especially. Scarlet in season 1 was presented as a horrible muhaha zany cartoon villain, though she admittedly got a bit better near the end. Trahearne was the most uninspirational miscast commander ever, with his ridiculous deus ex machina undead. I’m absolutely not full of praise by default. While I love the Tyria setting from both GW1 and GW2, the 2nd half of the personal story and the majority of season 1 just often suffered from less engaging storywriting and pacing. Maybe partly because it’s quite a new format to write game stories, at least I’ve never played a game before that did a similiar thing as the LS.

So yes, I think it’s exciting they’ve apparently learnt from past mistakes and are now running an engaging and enjoyable 2nd season. Sure it’s not flawless at all times, I mean look how Taimi’s golem instantly repaired itself. But I can easily overlook minor things such as that, as long as the story remains interesting and adhering to previously established lore.

Sure, the racial dialogues with the leaders were compact and swiftly “solved”, but they served their purpose very well, or at least what I think their purpose was: to give us some insight on why they were willing/hesitant to combat this new threat, as well as add flavour to the mission part. Oh I surely would have prefered it if they each in turn had a 20 minute dialogue in which they had to debate with the player, I would have loved that really haha. But it also has to fit somewhat with the game format so that we can progress with the story. That’s why the dialogues were definitely “good enough” for me – they provided relevant info, were racially appropriate and didn’t stall the story progression for an hour to be able read everything.

The positive improvement for Trahearne (he had quite some lines) was that he just came across as more believable. Whenever he said something before I would usually go aaargh, and now I didn’t, at all. To me that’s a huge improvement for that character already.
