The Assassin
I doubt that are two people (the saboteur and the assassin) since engineers tent to have load offensive skills (especially since Aerin uses bombs and greandes) unless he starts wacking people with a prybar or a wrench. So to escape for the soon to be exploding ship he need to be stealthy (or he might be exploded by his own bombs) hence the knife.
Even if there are two people the I doubt is Caithe since Caithe’s secret seems to be tied around the Pale tree and the Sylvari, not the zephyrites.
It’s implied he may not have been working alone. At the same time though we shouldn’t base a character on their perceived class. Game mechanics don’t necessarily equate to story elements 100% of the time.

Exactly, like when we see Rytlock Brimstone using a pistol, and normally, warriors can’t do that. Or that Norn in Ghosts of Ascalon (Gullik I think) who handles a two-handed axe which don’t even exist in the game.
A character’s profession is a part of defining that character to me. When I saw that Aerin is obviously an engineer and one of the clues is a lot of stabbed bodies, the first thing that came to my mind was , some one else stabbed them. That could be considered thinking in terms of game mechanics (continuity), or simply that an engineer would have other preferred methods of killing.
The stabbings don’t seem to fall under ‘improvised with a weapon not of my first choice’ but do appear to be more planned and calculated. If he wanted to escape and be stealthy about it before the bombs went off (such as not engaging in stabby combat while making his sneaky getaway), engineers have that ability. Might be I’m totally wrong about it but I think some one else was involved. I don’t think that some one was Caithe.
I also wonder why they were stabbed at all, if they were specific targets for some reason or had to be eliminated for the sabotage to happen without complications.
I still say the Master of Peace is the Assassin because he doesn’t want anyone to discover what he did to Aerin.
Don’t forget a injured Zephyrite in the medical tent explained the events that lead to Aerin going mad being that the Master of Peace performed a ritual on Aerin which resulted in him going insane and releasing something that “the Masters could not contain”.
Not to mention Morning was lying about what really happened on the ship before she died and that she was afraid of the Master of Peace.

The ‘Master of Peace’ actually being the ‘Abomination of Desolation’? Seems legit but, where have I heard of this before? It seems familiar…
engineer dagger confirmed?
maybe he just had a rifle with a rifle with a bayonet…lol
engineer dagger confirmed?
I logged in to say that but I guess someone beat me to it!
Lots of NPCs use weapons and skill combinations that aren’t available to the player classes. Most of the members of destinys edge use skills that do not belong not only to the weapon they are wielding, but even the class they belong to; and then there is Trahearne the GS wielding necromancer.

Well Caladbolg isn’t a normal greatsword being that it can be used by any person no matter thir class as shown through the Sylvari Personal Story (aka Arc 1 of Sylvari Main Story.).
There was a second sylvari amongst the Zephyrites. This sylvari was generically named with a generic model. But we have not heard anything about him…
Suspicious? Perhaps, perhaps.

The only rituals mentioned in those dialogues – according to what I’ve seen and what’s on the wiki – is in a discussion between two Seraph, and are referring to burial ritual (without explicitly saying such).
The one about the Masters unable to contain is thus:
Seraph Medic: “You’re fortunate to still be with us.”
Zephyrite: (scream) “No!”
Seraph Medic: “Please try to relax. There was a crash, you—”
Zephyrite: “Can’t believe he did this. We took him in. Was one of us…”
Seraph Medic: “Did you see something? Can you describe him?”
Zephyrite: “Wild, raving… Masters…couldn’t contain… There, in the…” (moan)
Seraph Medic: “Sir?”
No mention of a ritual.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

i too remember something about a ritual performed by the master but don’t recall who said it.
ps. nice to see Konig still writes ^^
The ritual was mentioned by the Master of Peace before he left.
The Master gave him power and that power lead him to going mad.
Though the Master said Aerin went mad because he wanted Great power he couldn’t handle it was obviously a lie that Aerin reason for going mad was seeking more power.
However, we will learn more once we confront the Master of Peace again.

I know the game mechanics don’t always apply to NPCs but the assassin who killed those guys was really good at his/her work. One against so many and knife strikes so precise. I thought of Caithe because of the precision of the strikes and her obvious involvement with dragons, sylvari, mordy and glint. She used to collect blood crystals of Kralkatorrik after the defeat of DE. Now we know she has a secret which is known only to Scarlet, that must be about the sylvari and Mordy imo. Plus I don’t trust zephyrites, she might be doing a good thing killing them. I smell bad guys.
Oh found something else while reviewing some of the lore stuff in the last mission for CHapter 1 of S2 story….

This handwritten notebook bears the stamp of Omadd, Scarlet’s last mentor.
The device works on the principle that the mind is connected to magic, and therefore, if properly opened, one should be able to grasp the entire Eternal Alchemy as a bird views the landscape far below.
My sylvari assistant will try it next. I am hopeful that she, with her innate connection to the sylvari Dream, will be a better subject than those who’ve gone before.
I’ve grown rather fond of her and would hate to have her mind broken as well. I’ve tweaked and twiddled the settings as described below. I’m sure she’ll be fine."
