The Chickenado
I was laughing my head off when alert on the screen went “A Chickenado appears in the Upperland.” How does AN know I heart Sharknado so much?
I swear the whole setting, from mid-western inspired isolated town (i.e. City of Perfection in “Tremors”), local ‘weirdo’ (Gigor) whose seemingly nonsensical rumbling is foreshadowing doom to come, to sleazebag who gets his just deserts for irritating the main cast (Drool-burt), is a tribute to B-movies cult classics

A tornado has sucked up chickens. How do we deal with this? HIT IT WITH OUR SWORDS!
So… why are we not cleaving chickens in two? Why are we not being sucked in also? Why does everything in this game boil down to HIT IT WITH YOUR SWORD!?
Wouldn’t it have been better to make it an event that required some skill, such as running and catching the chickens as they are thrown from the vortex within a time limit? Every now and then it would spit out other debris such as eggs that temporarily blinded you, or pieces of chicken coop that caused bleeding?
Why not actually add some depth and reason by having different classes deal with it in a different way? By this I am not talking about just this event but all events. Give us reason to use different classes, to perform a task in a way unique to our actual choices when we made our character, rather than boil everything down into one tactic.
But no. As always… HIT IT WITH YOUR SWORD!!!
Basically, all classes in this game are treated merely as warriors, just with different ways of warring!

But.. but what you say must be a lie cos it goes against all that ANET said GW2 was inherently opposed to in other MMO’s.. how dare you say that this is nothing more than a “Swing a sword, swing it again, kill 1, kill 10 more” content inclusions… such baseless accusation
takes way too long.

I wholeheartedly agree, but…. sadly, an entirely valid point was made ridiculous by the simple fact that it is made primarily based on something called a “Chickenado”. It has the words “You are taking it too seriously” written all over it, even if its a thing that stretches to all ends of the game.
I haven’t fought the chikenado yet, but I did buy the mini chickenado from the gem shop.

Wow… Why so serious?
I’m not talking about mechanics here. I’m talking about how funny it is that the boss is a Chickenado.
A tornado has sucked up chickens. How do we deal with this? HIT IT WITH OUR SWORDS!
Actually, we deal with it by saving the chickens, which is what the event tracker shows. The bar fills up even just pulling a chicken out from the sand after it launches it out.
So… why are we not cleaving chickens in two?
Same reason we can accurately hit a mosquito with a rifle from 50 yards.
Why are we not being sucked in also?
Because we’re heaver than chickens.

Because otherwise we get kittened mechanics like bosses that are immortal. And you need to do a small escort quest with an escortee that has the self preservation instinct of a cruller at a police presinct to remove it’s immortality for a few seconds. Rinse repeat..
Looking at you, Fort Salma boss <.< (most kittened mechanic I have ever seen). ]

Omg, I so completely agree. I think it is so sad that MMOs have “kill things” as the basis for progression in the game. There are certain MMOs that gave me huge hopes for something other than killing things being a major part of progression but that didn’t happen. Sure, GW2 and some other MMOs have other activities but they don’t compete with “kill things” for XP contribution.

Bahahaha
Those certainly made my day.
It certainly one way to start tripping without taking drugs.
On that note:
I think the person who created Chickenado may have been on something during development because Chickenado is certainly a boss made for a sake of having a Tornado made out of Chickens.
We should get more not so serious bosses like Chickenado in the future for the sake of having funny made bosses.

We need a set of chicken runes that imbue your elite with chicken power. The added effects are the same for all elites, but differ by class.
Like so!
Guardian Elites (Spirit Chicken)
Your elite skill also summons a spirit chicken which will fight for you for X seconds. You may use the elite skill button again while this chicken is active to detonate the chicken, healing all allies in range for Y and granting them Z seconds of aegis.
Warrior Elites (Banner of Poultry)
When using your elite skill, you also plant a Banner of Poultry. While planted, this banner summons one chicken every three seconds. This banner has similar skills to other banners, but wielding it will cause all summoned chickens to attack your primary target, inflicting minor damage, blindness, and bleeding.
Engineer Elites (Hyperstable Hatchery)
When using your elite skill, you also summon a hyperstable hatchery at your location containing a single elite chicken. This hatchery generates one egg every two seconds while active. Allies may pick up these eggs and consume them for X health and remove a condition, or throw them at enemies to inflict Y damage and inflict 5 stacks of a random condition.
Ranger Elites (Call of Poultry)
When you use your elite skill, you also summon a single chicken. This chicken is invincible, and deals no autoattack damage, however this chicken counts as a pet for the purpose of all pet-based attacks and effects, effectively making these skills twice as effective for its duration. While call of poultry is active, you suffer no ill effects from pets being incapacitated.
Thief Elites (Chickens of Shadow)
When you use your elite, you summon five stealthed Chickens of Shadow. These chickens can not attack or be attacked, but when picked up may be used as environmental weapons by allies. Chickens of shadow have two skills when weilded, and once a skill is used the chicken will flee:
Squawk – The noisy chicken Dazes up to 5 opponents within 600 range of the caster for 1 second
Flap – Attempts to take flight, pulling the user 800 units forward while evading for 3/4 a second
Elementalist Elites (Chickenado)
When you use your elite skill, you also summon a Chickenado at your location, the chickenado persists for 20 seconds, moving in random directions and knocking back nearby enemies.
Mesmer Elites (Phantasmal Chickens)
When you use your elite skill, you also summon five phantasmal chickens. These chickens can not attack or be attacked, but count as phantasms for the purpose of all skills and shatters.
Necromancer Elites (Well of Chickens)
When you use your elite skill, you also summon a well of chickens (literally, a shallow well full of chickens) at your location. Enemies caught within the well are blinded and crippled, and take damage each second they remain within the well.

He has a point.
We should be using chainsaws.
I dunno. I found it funny as hell, personally.
I’m there swinging at it with my Charr Guardian, trying not to get tossed around by the smaller whirlwinds that the thing spawns, and then suddenly.. I’m just holding a chicken.
I can picture him just stopping there, looking at this massive chicken in his arms (because of how the chickens scale up in size with whoever is holding them) then glancing around a few times before looking back at the chicken…
“… Well, at least I got dinner tonight!”
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
Save the chickens! Make a chicken friend. Go sightseeing around Dry Top.
Seafarer’s Rest
I like the elites, but you may have missed an opportunity with the Elementalist. How about a fire-based skill named “Hot Wings?”
