Hello,

This topic is a suggestion and discussion about future story/game development.

As it has been mentioned in various topics, the game needs more mature/darker atmoshphere/story/better character development.

But I see one more thing.

A periodic, side-character who is a total freaking kitten.
The character as masculine, macho and hardcore as possible. Free your fantasy and leave ladyboy FF-like characters behind.

Combination of Michael Bay, Deadpool, Duke Nukem, Dirty Harry, Tybalt Leftpaw and Pulp Fiction voiced by Rick D. Wasserman.

Let three songs describe him for you:
George Thorogood & The Destroyers – Bad to the Bone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlwRNCnsbUg
Big Head Todd & The Monsters – Boom Boom (feat. John Lee Hooker)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtOd-NR8bv0
AC/DC- T.N.T.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u09WlvBrneo

Guild Wars 2 is quite… too polite. Compared to other MMOs with same PEGI rating it lacks some serious “oomph”, more “dirty” jokes (Hell, why we love Tybalt and his “apples” ?), visible brutality – in one word, more “Big&Bad”.

Occasional “rock&blues” kitten character with hillarious jokes, references and Michael Bay style of combat would be really refreshing !

Not really as hard into the lore and story, but some really iconic male of this kind could be a nice little touch in rather femine Guild Wars 2 current world.

Imagine we’re fighting our way back at the very end of rescue mission, being outnumbered by minions of Mordremoth and pushed into corner. When it appears that we will be butchered, suddenly a Charr named "Duke Harry “Badkitty” Deadbay" appears, riding on a charr tank through the jungle with his elite Rambo-like troops, eliminating foes with RPGs, heavy guns and in pleora of explosions and jokes.
And your story choice is “You take the Blue pill or the Red pill”.

Throw something like this couple times. We care about lore, but that’s a game! It’s meant to give a lot of fun.

This character should appear only from time to time in the plot, not like a serious one, but more like side character and in side quests maybe.

But I’m sure people would absolutely love him!
And that’s the point.

Cheers!

It’s meant to be a little “trash” character I would say, from early 80s. movies.

This is also a very good ground for references. I bet older players would have a lot of fun

No, it doesn’t.

I’m playing GW2 because it’s different from “other MMOs”. It’s pretty, it’s fun, it’s fantasy and has very little of the actual violence and suffering of the real world’s wars.

You may not like Dress Up Wars 2, but I prefer it to Gore Wars 2. Add more violence, gore, dirtiness and Transformer’s idiocy level heroism – and it’s the straight way to lose me as a player.

20 level 80s and counting.

I loved Tybalt because he was funny and not so serious.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Every time I point that thing someone’s got to mention gore. Seriosuly, what’s wrong with you guys? Do you even know what “gore” is? Not every little cut on your finger when making a dinner is classified as “gore”.

If you refer to Transformers, I’m afraid you’re already lost or don’t get it.
If you can’t see the difference between Pulp Fiction and Transformers, it’s even worse.

Violence in games isn’t a bad thing when it has a purpose and limits.

It’s not said that this character would be integral part of your beautiful butterfly world. It can be a side-quest, side character, something optional.

I loved Tybalt because he was funny and not so serious.

Exactly what I suggest.

All I could think of after reading “Duke Nukem” was the opening sequence of Duke Nukem 3D with that kickin’ rock sound track. Only the visual was Braham watching the Zephyrites get shot down, cracking his knuckles, pumping a shotgun, riding an asuran rocket into the Maguuma Jungle, crash lading on top of a devourer, and saying “kitten , those alien kittens are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.”

I started my anime “career” with Elfen Lied. I know what gore is.

Well, it was you who mentioned Michael Bay. And it’s 2014 today.

That has little with the concept you outlined as I saw it. Braham fits the bad-kitten (yes, I typed “kitten”) hero type more or less, while snarky remarks are reserved for asuras (god, I want to finish their personal story more than the one on my main), so it works already. Brutality is reserved to charr, blood-like animations are reserved to warriors. Concentrating everything in a single character in GW2 would make him an annoying bad taste joke placed in random places, a cheap comedy character, which is worse then Scarlet (even though I like her character).

Just give less “son” feeling to Braham, make him lose Rox or break him in another way, and let him be reborn as a real Hero – and we’re done.

20 level 80s and counting.

I liked Vael from GW1 and how he’d randomly show up and run around with you.

Or like Courier Falken, it would be cool to have the same NPC show up in random maps for an escort mission across the entire zone. Of course I may have liked him so much because he is the Guild Wars version of Captain Falcon.

One of the major reasons that Duke Nukem Forever didn’t do well at all (other than being a terrible game) is because the character vastly outlived the time period when he would have been appreciated.

As a thirty one year old gamer, I don’t find uber-macho stereotypes like Nukem or Rambo who spout bad one liners and lewd comments nearly as compelling as I did when I was ten. I don’t find Hulk Hogan characters who are beaten down and then suddenly become immortal interesting in even a fantasy game. It doesn’t even make good television anymore.

It’s not simply an age thing, it’s been twenty years since that sort of stereotype was even relevant in movies, much less video games.

I wouldn’t mind having the grizzled bad-mule character, provided they weren’t some uber-masculine power fantasy who overshadows the PC at every turn. They need to have flaws and weaknesses of their own, even as they project confidence and prowess when dealing with their challenges. Characters like Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry, or the Punisher, are good examples.

We actually even have a potential candidate for this already; Canach. He’s clearly very skilled (he beat the Molten Facility dungeon) and knowledgeable (knows a lot about the enraging toxins on Southsun, coupled with knowledge of explosives and how to hack golems), and he’s willing to go off the rails to do what he thinks is right. I feel that if he were to join the Biconics, he’d make a fine addition to the group and as a “capable fighter” that doesn’t overshadow the PC (considering we beat him twice before.)

zwierz.9012

You missed the memo mate, Canach apparently now regrets for his actions and wants to give candies to orphans, help old ladies to the other side of the road and so on to repent for his “evil” actions. (I wrote “evil” because I still fail to see why were we fighting him instead of lending a hand, I don’t think there was any reason whatsoever for him to be the antagonist instead of a protagonist, other than the need for Kiel to be the best starchild with all the good deeds.)

The Clint Eastwood and The Story

Zaxares.5419

Canach understands now that his actions ended up hurting a lot of innocent people. He and Kiel actually wanted the same thing in the end; to free the settlers from their unjust indentured servitude to the Consortium. Canach still believes he did the right thing, but that he went about doing it the wrong way. (To be fair, he WAS kind of pushed into it by the Consortium “termination teams” sent after him after the Lost Shores chapter.)

Now that the settlers have been freed, Canach has had time to sit down and reflect on his actions. Whoever purchases his billet has the opportunity to make use of his extensive skills, and I do feel that he could make an excellent addition to the Biconics.

Actually this is so aweful i’m disgusted. I know you tried to be constructiv, but the songs and the whole description you give, sound like a horrible yankie B-Movie.
If they’d go this way the game would be totally dull. I can play Wolfenstein if i want that.
IMO it needs to go back to the roots and become deeper, more mystic and more serious again. I’m glad S2 seems to go there.
No offense tho.

EDIT: … just realized i fell for a troll. At least i hope so. GG

Some people clearly don’t catch the bone.

I will explain it once again : Character like this would not be involved in our story, progression, lore in any remarkable way. We still hunt the dragon, plants, rats, whatsoever.

This is meant to be so called B-classed movie trash character on steroids. Heck, his mission can even be “save the blonde”.

You have to understand that it would be a pure joke character. Maybe not out of the blue, without any story/game bounds, but not significant to our story in any major way.

A container of easter eggs, jokes, references and a perfect material for funny side tasks. Someone who can show up from time to time and do something which will bring a huge smile to your face and satisfaction if you get the reference and then dissapear, leaving major plot alone.

Leave mystic, magical and serious stories behind the door when you dare. Same atmosphere, serious writing, deep story – I’m all for it, as a fan of Gothic and Witcher series. But trust me, you cannot feed people with same thing again, be it funny or serious story. They will grow bored. Both Gothic and Witcher, when deadly serious when it comes to main plot offer many laughs, references, jokes and it makes the game more fluid, less stale.

I believe the same could be done in Guild Wars 2 with iconic character and other solutions
