The Dragon's Reach: Part 1 - Possessed Statue
Advice from a casual, don’t eat food or use traits etc etc.
It’s soloable but a pain in the butt. I actually rage quit my first try (I was tired from spending all day blasting through all the living story to catch up for today’s release).
First, always go for the menders. Use stuns and knock back any chance you can get. When you kill him attack the statue. Rytlock always mentions when a new bender appears so listen for that.
The only really annoying part is the orb of utter terror and doom. Just outrun it as best as you can (It disappears after a while) while ranging the mender.
Good luck!!

I hate it when Bender shows up. Makes everything even more chaotic.
Seriously though, OP, the menders don’t even fight back, you just gotta kill ‘em before they get to the statue. In between ’em, range the statue and dodge the lightning ball thingies. You’ll make it. And Rox is pretty good about running over to rez you if you’re down, I noticed.

I just did this about an hour ago and had no problems. There was no timer on it so just take it slow and easy. What I did was killed the menders as soon as they spawned. They don’t attack back so very easy to kill. The blue orbs that float around I simply ran away from them when they spawned. Eventually they despawn. Mostly just attacked the statue, dodged his big AoE attack and killed menders/ran away from orbs. Occasionally I would kill adds with Rhytlock, Rox and that other Charr dude who’s name eludes me right now. Hope this helps.
Ironically, this boss is one that actually gets harder the more players there are in the party. That’s because MORE of those orbs spawn the more players there are.
One advice I can offer is to bring a pet class, like a Ranger, a MM Necro, or a Phantasm Mesmer. The orbs are actually attracted to pets, but for some reason, they will not detonate on them. This means that if you’re a Ranger, for example, you can aggro the orbs onto your pet, then stay far, far away and the orb will never detonate (eventually dissipating without incident). A ranged weapon also lets you kill the Menders and then switch back to the statue easily.
Please don’t “fix” this. It’s easy as it is.
As said here already, just focus on menders as they appear and stay away from the balls. When nothing else is going on, range the statue.
Have done this solo on three characters and had no problem on any run.
You have to be aware of your surroundings and listen when the mender comes. Don’t try to get aggro from all the mobs in area and let the NPC’s just tank alone.
What I have done is simply stay in the back room. You can kill the mender as soon as he comes out. Never even gets by the door. The blue ball will dissipate. Just stand near the doorway and back up. It is slow and goes away. This method takes a lot longer, but is very hard to die with.
Don’t even bother with the statue.
this boss really isnt that hard at all. As the others in this thread ahve said, when a mender comes you focus on him, the minute those balls appear you jsut ahve to outrun them (and they’re slow) till they disappear. Then you can go back to hitting the statue. Rinse and repeat and really shouldn’t take long even solo.
You can also dodge roll through the orb to detonate it without taking damage, as I recall.
I tried it again today. This time I had to go thru on a guardian. I have never been so bored in my entire life. If I hear anything about a mender again I will uninstall. I actually had to log out due to boredom. The NPCs do virtually no damage and I’m tired of sitting in that back room for an hour and killing menders. I just wish I had that amount of time of my life back. I hate living story. It’s tedious and absolutely NO fun. Just my opinion.
It doesn’t need to be fixed as it’s incredibly easy once you know what to do.
I did this on a zerker engineer first time in. I certainly wouldnt consider myself “pro” or anything. for the blue balls of death, when they get near you -1/2 of a dodge roll away- dodge TO them. They will blow as you pass but you will evade the explosion. (though I blew rox up a few times like this haha, but she wasnt ever downed/killed) This way, you can continue attack the statue, dodge for a second and go back to the statue or mender. It took a little bit to figure this out, but once I did, the fight went by comparatively quick.
Be thankful you find this hard, because you’re going to feel awesome when you beat it, and you’ll learn a lot you can use in other areas of the game too!
