Many of the GW2 players are fliping out because of the recent interview on the GuildMag. I would like all of you to have an open mind and listen to WodenPotatoes and what has he to say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMGEGK7Sr4g

In my oppinion many people flip out over nothing. Its yust and interview. And Arena net showed massive inprovements over seasson 1 and i have faith in the.

in them?
in the living story?
in the developers?

i do too there were less mistakes and not as big ones compared to season 1
especially fights and ahcievements did improve massively
overall storytelling is great as well

btw i dont flip out because of sab “not fitting into ls” make a long break and…
well yeah we dont get to do anything at all…

besides this in terms of living story i could just wish for some points within hte living story where we get to choose stuff
even if it turns out that it didnt matter same opponents and result..
but i didnt wanted to give taimis machine away : (
i feel like ive taken a lollipop from a helpless baby..
yeah sure for a greater good but…. -__-

besides the lack of decisions the living story rocks so far and i am sure that we will see the box at some point again..
its just that it WOULD have fitted into this break…
and if it isnt ready yet the old content would still be good enough for most of us
i got plenty of friends who werent playing back then
and the more experienced skin hunters would have something to do as well…
quite a lot actually

that somewhat frustrates me
and that anet just does not respond while always stating:
“…and we DO read the forums…”
ive just seen too less anet employes answering one of the topics that really bugs so many people..
every other week i see one dev in some hidden suggestion thread saying something like : ah okay sounds nice .. but how would this be.. i like this conversation… makes one joke and then never hear anything about him anymore >___<

Yes it is just an interview by people who were not suited for it.

However I went further and took my rose tinted S2 glasses of and I have to say: Season 2 so far is nothing to brag about.

Sure they finaly nailed down narrative and content, however if you step back you see only three pieces of content we got:

- A new Storyline
- A new “complete” Map with everything that is supposed to be in it (unique skins and events are part of the map. Do not be fooled and think that just because they unlocked them after an Episode that they are not part of the Map deal.)
- A new scavenger hunt Back Piece

I am sorry, however as soon as you step back a little you see flaws. As soon as you compare what we got now with what we had the two years it is all stuff “that was about kitten time”.

I might turn slowly turn cynical, since I was one of the people who defended ANet heavily a few months back, but the storyline is one of the things that kept me going the most and it is subpar. Too many holes.
I like RPGs and I get through a lot of bad gameplay and other stuff for story, but if that element is missing then I will see the other stuff.

Guild Wars 2 is mostly waving around keys at the moment.
Focus is on areas I do not even want to touch and start a discussion now.

I have nothing to say at the moment that would convince me that theay have something good planned for the future, beacuse they are so tight about it.

We know nothing and that is what people are scared about.
We heard a lot of hype. We heard a lot of “possible things” but most we got at the moment is negative or no info at all.

I do not care what their marketing paln is and what they have planned to announce for their big aniversity. They need to step up now, because now people are confused and mistrusting.
They are foolish to let the chance to show off something go by now, because this wond subside.

Jip definitely improved. However they’ve either not improved enough or not in the correct direction according to some players.

I’d say it’s decent. Lot of room for improvement but at this moment I’d say I’m satisfied. Hopefully however come season 3 (or should I hope second half of season 2?) they’ll go from decent to good or even really good.

I wouldn’t say holes, although maybe that’s a good word to use. Producing content in video games is expensive and difficult. To get a person talking on film is easy since all you need is a camera and a person (who can talk) to do the same in a video games requires designers, programmers, maybe even mo-cap, and then some one do some VO and then the QA side. So given the limited amount of content they can produce it seems more like they’re covering the main topics but not fleshing things out (so it’s not so much a hole as much as a lacking. I guess that doesn’t make sense).
So my opinion is that the writers produce this wonderful and entertaining story (possibly) but somewhere between the writing and the releasing a lot of cuts need to be made so it can fit into limited time and resource (and technical limitation, since somethings the engine just can’t do easily).

First of, let me say I like you and your very constructive assessments of the things are being thrown around here, as well as some tempertantrum others and myself are letting out.

On your point however, while you make a valid point, this is actually not the issue in my opinion.

I understand the story they want to tell, however the translation is not working.
Their focus is too narrow, too much on “the epic story” they want to tell, that they forget they are telling the story of a world and not of a single person (the player and his biconic assamble).

The more the story progresses at this point the more questions pop up, but not the ones they wanted us to ask.

They put too much effort in this “epic” living story, that they forget the “living world” they wanted to make.
The story progresses, but the world stands still.

This has nothing to do with voice actors and money. These are things that can be done with “simple” placement of characters, items, books or anything.
Stock assets and simple lines (not voice acted) of dialog.

My favourite example here is the pact.

Their goal for S2 was clearly to get all races together for a continental alliance to boost the pact.
However they completly forgot to write the pact in in any way before and the explanation why it wasn`t present anywhere was rather lackluster.

I won`t go into more detail, but right now it more a checklist they work of, which results in a storyfocused, but unmoving world.

The phrase “show, don`t tell” is not being honored, which makes lot`s of the things we get told hard to believe, since we just don`t see it.

On the content
Yes and no.

What content are we talking about? Maps? Story? Equipment? Gamemodes?
These are all different kind of content which have different teams as supervisers.

Sure it costs time and money, but right now i do not know where it is focused on.
The LS right now, in my opinion, is hindering possible expansions to the world.
Two Maps in two years for example (even if the last one is extraordinary, though anoyingly padded out over two months) are certainly not enough.

I really hope I am wrong and we get some big reveal, because right now I start loosing my good opinion here.
The feature patch stuff is “nice” so far, but mostly fixing things, tweaking old studd and adding long awaited stuff, aka quality of life.

I do not get really excited about stuff that was talked about for months, or even since the beginning of the game.

Quality over Quantity in all honors, but at some point we need at least some tease to asure us that it is still going strong
