The Library - Tribute to the lore community

There was even some recognition of some of Konig’s theories.
Wait, there was?
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Well they mentioned some things that you’ve discussed on the forums. The library is pretty much an echo of our lore discussions, without explicitly confirming our ideas. While Frozenwind and I were going through the place, we repeatedly noticed books where we asked each other: “Wait, isn’t this something Konig discussed at great length?”
I wonder, has this update renewed your faith in the game’s writing? It definitely has for me. Lets hope they stay the course.

They’re more of things I argued against for what I’ve seen which is just the “gods aren’t gods” by Gadd and the Dragons and Gods. Hardly my theories.
And no, it hasn’t. Because where you and others are seeing ‘omg new Lord’s and ‘omg gw1 lore’ I see ‘recap!’ And ‘gw1 references that make no logical sense and were added for the sake of calming the complaints!’

While i agree that a lot of people do ahve their nostalgia glasses on (not that i don’t find this update great) i disagree with what you said in the last paragraph.
Those books weren’t added for the sake of “calming complaints” but to make the library more interesting, ofcourse there are gonna be books around that don’t have anything to do with the current storyline, that’s why you aren’t forced to go read them to understand the story. They are simply extra tidbits to make the library a more fun place to run around in. Also, for plenty of people this isnt a “recap” but actually new.
When it comes to adding things to the surroundings that don’t impact the story really at all, there is no fault in making some references here and there. It’s the same world, they share the same history, so yes references will be found. And i really don’t understand why it would be a negatif thing to begin with.
They could have had the books there without nodding to Gadd, Vekk, and Nicholas Sandford. Those three make little sense for author-content connection. Those three especially make it obvious that some of these were just added for the sake of adding them. And why, after nearly a year if not more of complaints on lack of relation to GW1 lore, would they add these for the sake of adding?
The addition of books was to make it interesting. But without those complaints I have no doubt they would have focused on things more gw2-centric instead of gw1-centric lore.

I honestly don’t see the “lack of relation to gw1” people keep mentioning, sure scarlet her story didn’t bring back old stories from gw1, but it didn’t have to. Not everything that happens todays is related to what happened 250 years ago. But the world never felt disconnected from its history in gw1 to me.
Anyhow that’s jsut my opinion :-)

I’m willing to be a bit more positive than that Konig. It seems to me that after all the Scarlet business, the team has turned over a new leaf. They are dropping references to Glint and the White Mantle for a reason I think. I think it’s more than just name dropping. In the case of Vekk, Koss, Gadd and Nicholas, I think they just wanted to go with some characters that people would easily remember. But there are also less obvious references, that only veteran GW1 players will recognize. -Like the book No Moa!, which is pretty much about one of the first quests in pre-searing.

The library pretty much confirmed that the popular “dragons match up with gods” (like Primordus = Balthazar etc) idea is bunk.
The way it said “there is no evidence to support this theory”, was just a very obvious “hint”, a way of saying “it isn’t true, move along” by the devs.
Bought a new power supply so I can finally do the story. When first entering the Priory the conversations the NPC had made me LOL a lot. The Chef and Sous Chef bloodstone dust conversation +1 LOL!

That’s a little cynical. Yes, much of it was recap, but when stuff is being recapped, it means it’s going to become relevant very soon. Some of the stuff was nods to forum lore debate, like the gods/dragon parallel (and all but confirms that there is no relation), and I believe a tiny bit actually did introduce new lore, such as the book on the centaurs.
Also, before someone brings it up against me, I’m pretty sure not ALL of the books in the library will become relevant soon, or this season, or possibly ever, but it does make callbacks to the original Guild Wars at the very least. The books that we had to read, though, I’m pretty sure bear at least some relevance to the next plot points.
I did notice a lot of reference to the Mursaat and the White Mantle during this episode. And we’re also neck-deep into the territory where the triad supposedly is hiding. I wonder if any of that will come into play later on. If they do reintroduce the Mursaat (which I look forward to), then I hope they do it right.
