The Living World
People disliked it because it was content delivered in small pieces rather than something big at one time. Like lets say an expansion.
But then again now people complain about not getting stuff every two weeks while we wait for the expansions.
Simply goes to show that people will complain about whatever system of delivery is currently used.

I have also seen some people complaining that an expansion is coming out that might offer to much new things to the game. So what is it that people want?
Nothing sounds wrong with adding a little bit of content every few weeks into the game. Better than waiting 4 months for a single patch to come out that may only offer a few weeks of content.
I think the main reason people didn’t like Living Story was because in Season1 it was basically temporary content. In other words, once that part of the story was over it was gone for good and not repeatable. In Season2 A-Net changed that and made everything instanced and repeatable. I think this fixed the Living Story problems many had and will probably be a way for us to get content between expansions.
I want to say that I personally love living World. provided that the extensions. I find the world a little more interesting, I’m bored least during the wait.
Lately, the forums seem like a wasteland of nonstop complaining. Probably because players are bored in-game with nothing to do. I barely post anymore because of this.
It does show how much Living Story and seasonal-type events kept people occupied and busy chasing the newest carrots.
Why do people hate it?
From what I’ve seen, the majority didn’t “hate it” at all. But there was a very vocal crowd who wanted a expansion. That old mindset that a lot of pay for content now is better than little free content over time. I’ll not get into that debate again. Regardless, because of limited resources and people, ANet had to decide: continue giving free content through the Living Story or work on an expansion, for pay, because people kept screaming for it on the forums.
Pretty obvious choice, don’t you think?
Now there’s no new content in the interim. And here we are, the forums filled with nonstop whining, because players have nothing to do.
Yep, ANet just can’t win this one.
But, after the expansion, Living Story will return to fill the void between pay-for content.
In the meantime, we get to watch the delightful discussions on the forums. . . .
