The amount of positivity for this patch
What ANET did to Glint’s lair, I hope they do the same for all GW1 landmarks and bring them back. This game will be the prettiest ever.
I like the new zone. I like the holding and defending concepts w/ forts. Really well done.
EDIT: You make a quality product, you won’t have to find ways to lure people to buy stuff off gemstore. They anyway will. I did… got the bobblehead lab. So cool.
Roughly the same amount of content as the first episode. Don’t forget that dry top had a lot of vertical area to cover. The biggest difference is this episode contains a small amount of GW1 lore.
Well it would be nice if they worked as hard into their game modes.
- 1/3 of Siverwaste would be perfect as a GvG map.
- Most of the map could work as a small scale WvW map.
- The LS ice/crystal palace could work as a multiplayer dungeon instead of being basically single-player content inside a MMO.This play it coulb be worth playing more than once.
- Little PvP area in Silverwaste shows that Open world duels are possible, even open world large scale PvP/WvW if they wanted.
Again, amazing artistic work from Anet, that is undeniable, but considering the potential of the artistic work there is clearly a lack of vision when its only meant to be played once and farmed.
You should have seen map chat 15 minutes ago when everyone was kicked out of the instance. Most players were near completion when the server failed again and basically everyone left saying “—-” Well, I cant repeat that in the forums, but I don’t expect them to do any LS2 again.
I honestly, loved this patch, it touched up on a lot of player’s fond memories of GW1 and enlightened those who did not have the chance to experience it for themselves, expanded what we know of the people and world of GW, connecting the past to the present and deepening relationships, giving this episode a depth Anet’s story telling often lacks. This truly shows me they are becoming better writers… and yet, I couldn’t fully enjoy this patch with what they did to personal story. As epic as this content may be, a beautiful building built upon a desolate wasteland, loses all its attractiveness.
When I found the book that said something about a hero finding Althea’s ashes… I was so happy. That’s what I wanted all along, recognition for my GW1 deeds! More of this please!

I’m glad that you’re enjoying Season 2. I love the nods to Guild Wars history, too!
As Colin said, this is really going to be a wonderful season. I’d use the word “epic” but that’s so overdone. Just suffice to say you want to join up.

Unfortunately that PvP area was just a “bug” & removed, I hope not another Karka island tied to nostalgic art. On a positive note the possibilities behind this bug are really exciting Anet, I will definitely keep my eyes peeled on any endeavors to expand this bug.

So very true. Could you tell that your marketing separtment as well, please?
Guild Wars 2 stirred up too much hype and then was in many overhyped releases bearly able to deliver (several occasions and several reasons. These range from facepalm moments, to gamebreaking bugs, etc… I am not saying it is bad, but the hype from you and the finished product don`t have a good track record).
I enjoy Guild Wars 2 and Season 2 started wonderful with episode 1, but drasticly lost in momentum right from the beginning of episode 2, which is a bit heartbreaking.
It often hinges on little things. Just things that felt rushed and could have been easily fixed.
For the first half of season 2 it was the reveal of Mordremoth`s name, Adelberns crown hunt, throwaway resulution to Braham`s mother issues, Belindas red shirt death, the name world summit (while we clearly have maps of the world and the continent Tyria is clearly not the world -_- ) and the “stupidity” of the world in some cases, the writing has adapted from season 1 (harsh word, but a messed up timeline and character who should be at the frontline, not being there is a big no go for something called living world )
Episode 5 however fixes a lot of these issues and takes great strides into the “OMG, that`s exactly what I wished we had a year ago” territory, it is not without flaws.
Very enjoyable these are very minor and mostly annoying for the Guild Wars 1 fans, who know this content (why are the facets no dragons, why?!?!? )
Overall I am very satisfied with the continuation of episode 5 and I hope the quality stays that way and doesn`t fall from grace like the first half did.
You got good momentum there, please don`t stumble

Too be fair, a lot of the past negativity towards the story was well warranted. The personal story and living “story” season 1 (yes I quote story when referring to season 1), was shallow, felt disconnected from the GW universe as a whole and was a huge disappointment when compared to the legacy left behind by GW1.
Season 2 started to break that trend, and episode 5 raised the bar to a new level that is honoring the GW legacy in my mind.
There is a reason there is a lot of positive sentiment now. This is what we always wanted out of GW2 story when it came out 2 1/2 years ago. Depth and a connection to the rich lore that makes up the GW universe. ANET is finally waking up and delivering. Well done.
“Remember The Searing. We never forget, and never forgive.” – Family Motto
Can´t formulate it any better than Stramatus has done!
Guess that a lot of people (including myself) were hoping, no waiting, no craving ^^ for a connection to the rich lore from Tyria´s past. I admit that after GW1 and especially “Eye of the North” it was difficult to deliver something eqivalently epic and world-changing. But the whole Scarlet thing felt really weird and disconnected and even if i´m beginning to see now what they were heading for – it was a bumpy start.
So much the better what they are doing now: Telling a story with impact, introducing the next elder dragon, connecting the background (storywise) + new map(s), mechanics, villains (gameplay-wise) and so on.
You´re on the right track ArenaNet and you deserve the praise!!!
kind regards to all players
I will bash the F out of this game when it deserves to be bashed and i will compliment it when it deserves to be complimented. This patch is amazing and i praised them for it….but if they don’t continue giving us stuff of this quality be sure i will be here bashing left and right.
This release of LS is filled with positive reviews because they did an outstanding job and i fully agree with that.
Now they saw what makes us tick…they have to continue it.
And we can’t have another months long hiatus after 4 or so episodes. Many players quit during that time and more will quit if it happens again.
Lol. I’ve always thought the living story releases have been of high quality – especially when they are actually coming out at two week intervals -.-
Seeing that the Durmon Priory was more then a floating tablet chamber and with a school sized library underneath really extended the image of the scholars – which I approve of. Epic quest, really nice non-linear character behavior (you trollish rock dwarf you) and an entertaining battle zone.
One word of caution though is that these battlezones are not sustainable. Dry top is fun, Silverwastes is also fun (and much more fast paced). As far as maps go these sorts of dynamic battle fields offer the most replay value of all our map types. That said, I’ll get a wee bit annoyed if every single map between us and Mordremoth takes on this flavor. Its a fairly grind oriented approach and I enjoy gaps in the grinds.
Finally, as a necromancer player, could someone please explain why the story’s central necromancers keep losing their necromancer weapons in favor of great swords? Trahearne, Majory… When do I get one? :<
The story is great, and the personal story that LS runs you through is done really well, but what I don’t get is why use all those resources on everything else? I would be easily content (would others?) with just that instead of adding these zerg train zones, if anything for me it brings down the quality of the game by adding these mini zones after such a great start in the story part.
After giving up on the LS after s1 I have recently started to give s2 a try, and I have noticed I find it very enjoyable, but as soon as a chapter ends and I’m presented w/its particular zone the enjoyment drops right off a cliff as I skip to the next chapter in the season.
All that quality LS story content drops to a zone of same ol same ol. First thing that hits me is that could have been a WvW update, spvp modes, old zone updates, class, race, weapon skills, new utility, etc…
I believe the quality of the LS (green star story)alone is worth the buy in a gem store w/o all the stuff that comes after.

lore…lOrE…LORE!…must have MORE LORE! TAKE MY MONEY!
I enjoy seeing the homage to GW1. After running through the event pre-patch, then again last night. It was fantastic and enjoyable.
