Edit: Wall of text!

Well, I’ve been playing this game off and on since release – with a few time outs. I’ve logged I don’t know how many hours into Guildwars 1 – I was in the top tiers of the guild vs guild pvp back then.

I think the general skill/dodge gameplay in Guildwars 2 is unmatched by any other mmo. It is awesome. Good job.

But there are problems:

90% of the living story gameplay content is achievement hunting. Collect x1000 tickets, or aether-whatevers, inventory clog and useless banked trinkets. It’s grinding for a balloon, not gameplay. It’s tiring for casuals because 2 weeks isnt enough, and it’s annoying for hardcores because they realize grind is a lame excuse for content. And then do it anyway.
And up until the middle of this summer, it was empty minigames tied to the same achievement-grind. Thank you for stopping that. I liked the race enough to play it 5 or so times, but that was about it.

I’m growing tired of the game is because I’ve basically “used” up all the content, and the content “drip” via the living story has proved to be, well… the dungeons have been outstanding. But most of those are gone so whatever. But they were awesome. Each and every one of them. Excellent job. The WvW buffs are nice, but its still just a zerg fest. No matter how well I do or play, I accomplish nothing in there. I’ll get to the pvp later.

Over the year I’ve probably amassed upwards of 2500+ tokens in every dungeon except Arah. I have a great guild and we dont do speed-running, we want to complete the fights and the “feel” of the content and regularly do so. I most likely would’ve had 100% zone completion if that PVE content didn’t force me to do WVW pvp content as well. I have almost 5 characters up to level 80, and I have one character of each proffession. But I’m done with the content… I’ve done it over and over and over now. And the living story isnt delivering…

The hard cold truth is that if we interpolate whats been done the game over the past year, 3 years into the future, we will have:
12 dungeons, 8 of them removed or possibly moved into tiny fractal shards
(I’m not counting that you added the fractals since I remember there was an interview saying that it was nearly completed at launch – good choice to delay it and make sure the games launch went well.)
3 new zones
4 removed zones that were just achievement grinds and or excuses for jumping puzzles
4 new actual jumping puzzles
Bigger bosses
Expanded wvw, but it’ll still probably a zero-sum zerg fest.
4 new arenas in the pvp
A mobius strip worth of minigames
More backpacks and trinkets than an expanded bank could hold
No new weapons
No new proffessions
No new crafting jobs
Many new armors, but you can only 90% get of them via money or insane black lion chest RNG drops
A super adventure box as big as the entire game but you’re not allowed in
And probably something involving dailys / laurels.
12 new hairdos per race.
A throng of minis

I know it’s not fair to interpolate in such a manner (your game engine will most likely support new things), but there’s this thing that I just can’t get out of my head: That that’s not even an expansions worth of content. The first expansion of Guild wars 1 doubled the game world size, and it was released in a year, and it brought much more content.

The real PvP is nothing like Guild wars 1 was… it doesnt even feature guild wars. I would cut off my right leg for the standard 4on4 deathmatch from guild wars 1. Instead theres the generic capture the points mmo-stuff. You won’t make it big that way.

If you want to improve PvP drastically, add this:
Right now there is no “true” interaction between two players. I can stun the opponent based on the time of the casting animation, but with no true knowledge about whats being cast it ends up being a non-fun non-rewarding risk. Add caster bars so there is more tactical manouverability, add non-based capture point combat and the PvP side of this game will EXPLODE. Pretty sure you guys have it in the making. If you get it in before x-mas, itll be a huge boon to the community because everyone on their winter vacation will have time to truly try it – full pvp queues, lots of people gaming it.

Sorry for the huge rant. I love this game dearly, It’s clearly one of the best ones out there, and I really want to be a part of it, but my guild is dying. You’re not delivering “real” new zones, and the good stuff you have delivered you removed. You’ve made amazing dungeons, but way too few of them. There are new no classes, proffessions, etc… and I have to go for a while. Maybe I’ll see you guys later. Best of luck in the future

I agree in every u said. I hope gw2 will finally become a real sequel. I dont mean gw1 with better graphic. Just a sequel for a loved game. And pls gw1 became a big game without any RNG stuff pls go back to that more sane and correct philosophy to your players.

I am officially burned out, all I do is log in, do my dailies, and log out. When new living world content comes out, I log in, complete EVERYTHING in like two days, for achievements, since that is really what the living world boils down to, achievements. I do not care anymore for the content of the living world events, as thus far, there have been NONE with any sort of compelling stories. All I have to look forward to is a new disjointed story arc, one of the many, that will never be touched on again, and if they do decide to touch on it, it will maybe be a couple lines of dialogue, which is the equivalent of reading a page every few months of a book…..

I mean seriously, ESO is looking tantalizing at this point….

I agree with this as well.

The continuous living story content burned me out so I ended up leaving the game for 2-3 months just so I could get back into it for Halloween. It just doesn’t really make it seems special anymore when so much comes out. When you look at holiday events like halloween and xmas, to me, those deserve living story events. The rest of it however.. once in a blue moon if that.

My entire guild is getting tired of this “temp” content rush …. ppl are burnt out trying to grind out some kinda of achievement by joining zerg rush or collecting meaningless item to story that end as abruptly as they started … We need real content like what we have in Guild War 1 expansions … could you do that for the living story please ?

If this was before Halloween, I would just argue with you but now I can not agree more. I have been playing since BWE, first few months, before living story crap started, the game was AMAZING, discovering new stuff, leveling characters, only 3 updates in 4 months that were WORTH MORE THAN everything else in LS, except for MF. I did like some of the updates and I was hoping that halloween would bring more than just what it did, achievement list. When they announced Bloody Prince i was so happy, I thought it would be epic as Mad King dungeon last year, it was small but better than ‘stand in candy vomit to deal more damage to DEMONIC prince.’ Now I can not agree more, living story has become too boring to play, I am kinda building up some hopes about this Krait thing coming up, hope it won’t be something stupid as other updates and will bring in PROMISED new skills and stuff.

For many of the same reasons I’m finding myself unwilling to log in game these days, LS has tired me out instead of bringing new freshness to the game.

Said it before and i’ll say it again, yes to this. We don’t need updates every two weeks.

Apparently, they are still getting mileage out of the 2 week update schedule as they are still trumpeting it loudly as a value add. I’ve always thought that a short development cycle was a bad idea, even when it was one month. I would much prefer a 3 month cycle with permanent content, permanent achievements, deeper story, and more attention given to core game.

I believe a lot of the burn out is around temporary content, and specifically temporary achievements. Achievements tied to content are great and there is no pressure to complete them if there is no time window. I suppose that if your intention is to create a grindy game then time gating everything would be a good idea, but GW wasn’t supposed to be a grindy game. But, beyond the grindiness, it’s simply a bad way to model an evolving world. Our world is constantly changing and yet there is a permanence to it—it doesn’t come and go in fits and starts. They need to find a better model for the living world and I would suggest they start with our IRL living world. I actually would prefer an evolving world to an expansion as it seems more natural and less cataclysmic. It would, however, require that they change the way they think about LS/LW.

There seemed to be a lot of interest in LS and evolving the living world in the collaborative development thread so perhaps we will be able to more formally process this. And, I do remember that Colin gave a mention of the issue in his blog and it does seem that they are aware of the issue. But, it will be an issue until there are some concrete steps away from temporary content on a 2 week schedule and we haven’t seen any yet.

While I wholeheartedly agree that a longer development cycle with permanent additions to game content (that DON’T remove existing content, as best exemplified by the F/U path removal in Twilight Arbor) is the best path going forward, I will give ANet credit and acknowledge that they’ve taken steps to rectify this, with both Tequatl Rising and the Twilight Aetherblade path being permanent additions to the game that anyone can complete whenever they wish.

They’ve still some way to go as far as getting the balance right and communicating deadlines better to players, but they are taking our feedback on board, and that is something people should be aware of.

Same here.. Anet doesn’t know what to do.

They’re just stringing us a long with lazy content and chore lists to fluff their metrics “look guys people logging on our content rox!”

Lol, when will new MMO’s come out already. =[

That’s the problem they dont have a direct opponent at the momment, but when it pop ups will take most players, but game might end before that IMO or at least stagnate, so until end of 2014 or even 2016 might not appear a better option in the market.

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.
