The what?

Video please. This has to be really funny.

I just went and checked out the LA corn. That is weird and slightly unsettling.
There might be something under it! Can you get a shovel somewhere in LA?
Edit: Or can you use the shovel from Silverwaste?
That is eerie. I am there with other people. Anyone running over the spot will cause the sound for others nearby. I have the Reforged Shadowstone and Class 2 Rift Stablizer on me; so do others nearby so I don’t know if they are factors or not.
what
the
skritt
I have the Reforged Shadowstone and Class 2 Rift Stablizer on me;
Me too, also used the Broken Shadowstone and a Mystic Forge Stone. No effects.
The sound triggers only near the rock formation in the south of the east field. No sound for me on the west field. No difference on day- or night-cycle.
I’m no sure, but was this a special point during Attack on Lion’s Arch?
I found Dulfy’s map of LA Attack achieves, there’s nothing at the screaming corn spot. Other images from her guide show there were some champ fights surrounding the wp.
That map is at http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/gw2-hell-never-live-this-down-achievement-guide2.jpg
There is also the memories scavenger hunt in Escape from LA, again, nothing at the corn spot. http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/gw2-memories-in-your-hand-pile-of-rubble-achievement-guide-map12.jpg
Well, ooohhkaaay already. Lol. That’s very strange.
I’m calling it. Zombies. Zombies coming out of the ground to swarm the countryside.
ANet may give it to you.

It has been my experience that plants kill zombies. That corn may be our last line of defense. Assuming the tall walnuts get overrun.
So freaking weird.

zombies crawling out of cornfields….
I TOLD those farmers they were using too much Miracle Gro Plant Food.
ANet may give it to you.
This is not terrifying at all.

Is this just the screams from the Shark Maw JP?
Well that’s….different. Definitely not something I’ve noted before and I’ve been through that area plenty with my sound on.
I just went and checked out the LA corn. That is weird and slightly unsettling.
Apparently, it’s Mordremoth’s magic that was absorbed by the other elder dragons. That’s going to end badly…
Is this just the screams from the Shark Maw JP?
I considered that but am pretty sure Shark Maw extends south of the mill, generally sw of the scream spot. I might have to go run through Shark Maw just to get my dotted white lines on the map …
The screams are triggered by running through the particular corn stalk, or stepping on the bare ground near it between it and the rock jumble. Getting your mini to run across the ground (by turning in place) also triggers them. Per an Asura I met there, the corn/ground next to the rocks will also scream but is not nearly as “chatty.” I did not get any screams from that patch, though it’s hard to tell unless you are alone since others can evoke the sound at the main stalk.
The sound triggers for everyone around but the exact sound is not the same for everyone. With four of us there, we compared between gasp, wail, growl, and scream, and were each getting our own sound when one person ran into the stalk while the rest stood still.
The screams are triggered by running through the particular corn stalk
I can confirm this. Creepy.
I now have the sudden urge to build a baseball field….
I now have the sudden urge to build a baseball field….
I’m not sure how the corn would respond to that. Better get Kevin Costner for this.

If you build it, they will scream.

LOL! Yes, they will. Loudly. I’m scared…
Bring a torch…
“Invest in property in Lion’s Arch,” they said!
“It’ll make us all rich,” they said!
“Sure the Karka attacked! Sure Scarlett attacked! Lightning never strikes… thrice! It won’t be attacked a third time!” they said!
Glad I didn’t believe them. Those fancy cannons can’t aim underground.
I just tried this on a character with no Current Events items in their inventory (but on an account where I have completed all of them, except reforging Caladbolg) and I still got the screaming effect.
It only seems to happen in the back half of the field, between the path and the rock wall. Also to me it doesn’t always sound like screaming, sometimes it does, sometimes it sounds like the Grasping Phantom Glider, or like ambient effects from the Mad King’s Labyrinth, and sometimes it sounded a bit like noises Mordremoth made.
(BTW I had to turn the music off to be able to hear it, so if you can’t hear it try that. Also it doesn’t happen every time so you might need to run around for a while to hear it.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I got it to respond once, but then going over the same spot again did nothing. My sound was more a threatening groan than a scream. I’ll try turning off the music next time.
I’m there now checking it out. Definitely creepy. It’s not really a human scream. It’s a bunch of different sounds.
It kind of sounds like it could be a destroyer or something. Maybe it’s the future spot of a primordus invasion!
Well, one of them does sound like a ghost screaming. But the other sounds like a destroyer. lol
Broke out of the map and there’s nothing underneath the corn that I can see that would be triggering it. So it’s definitely at ground level.

You know what else they said? “You’re wasting your time. Nothing ever happens in the suburbs.” And then the karka came. And the airships. And the Breachmaker. And the Consortium. Now the suburbs are paved over and that snarky citizen is long gone.
No wonder the corn screams.
If the corn is making zombies/ghosts/???creatures, can we call these creatures The Children of the Corn?
Enquiring minds want to know.
ANet may give it to you.

OMG, jokes are getting better and better. (LOL)
By the way, it is one particular corn stalk area (certains stalks) that you need to cross in order to trigger the Mordremoth-esque growl/scream (the sound varies):

That pic is a good guide, but the area where the sound happens is much wider.
If you go to that spot, you’ll see that the rock outcrop actually makes kind of an arrow pointing toward LA. It’s in that area where the sound happens.
I’ve never heard a “scream.” Most times it’s more like some kind of threatening moan, and I’m really not happy about it, especially with the reports of UFOs over Lake Doric and LA.

Not for me, I’ve tried every other approach mentioned here, but I seem unable to trigger it anywhere off that zone. Maybe I am getting your arrow figure wrong…

I have heard all the sounds mentioned on here.
You can also hear a few ghostly screams near the LA bank too! :O
Prob old used Halloween sounds that haven’t been removed properly?
I can’t find/hear any near the bank. And if they are left over from Halloween, I would imagine someone would have mentioned it before now. Maybe some recent patch accidentally tweaked something to bring up the old sounds?

Really? I can hear it when I am at the banker near the Mystic Forge, not as loud as the OP showed in his video but you can still hear some nosies from a ghost.
That’s a neat find! And yeah, I concur that it’s probably a leftover SFX trigger that got mistakenly left in after Halloween got removed.

There are a number of places you can buy a shovel bundle. Check the wiki, and make sure you get one that has a Dig skill (not all have one).

…or an easter egg. those are pretty common in this sort of game.
It’s probably just the screams of the people who were killed in the Scarlet’s attack on Lion’s Arch…maybe

Incoming, LA Gorseval
…y’know, it’s not far from the dude who will explain that he is horrified because the entire new city is built with the blood and bones of the dead…
Might be a PvZ Garden Warfare 2 reference?
Might be a PvZ Garden Warfare 2 reference?
I wouldn’t be the first one. There’s a heart in Caledon and another in the Sylvari personal story that is literally using plants (with a variety of skills) to fight undead.
