not only was this patch short as hell after a promising start to the to the 2nd half of season 2, which I hoped could continue…..

it didn’t answer any questions, just gave us more of them

and it didn’t include a single part about the Rytlock teaser

this game is driving me insane

Looking specifically at the playable story parts this was not really any shorter than last patch.

Not every patch have to give answers.

The teaser was most likely more to show that they have not forgotten Rytlock and that we will meet him again sooner or later.

what?

last patch we had 3 fairly large playable areas

Glint’s Lair
Silverwastes
Durmond Priory Arcana

granted one was mostly for lore and ret-con’ing lore, but we still got a lot of answers out of the Hidden Arcana

Playable content in the episodes were about the same.
If you didn’t stand around and read all the books in Priory it didn’t really take that long to complete that instance. About the same time as the Labyrinth in-fact.

Silverwastes has rather little to do with the actual story content. And even counting that, the Labyrinth is rather large as well.

The previous update really was no different. All we learned was that the Pact & Friends were in SW and that the Master of Peace had an egg.

We learned a lot last patch.

Belinda was a ghost terrorizing Fort Salma.

Belinda’s ghost is now infused into Belinda’s blade which Marjory now wields.

When an Elder Dragon dies and leaks magic into the world, there is an imbalance and another dragon will take its place. Tequatl became stronger because of this.

The deep sea dragon’s name starts with an S.

Zhaitan is indeed dead, thanks to part of him hanging in the Hidden Arcana.

The master of peace was indeed holding an egg.

The pact was making a base in the Silverwastes.

Destiny’s Edge 1.0 would also be assisting in the fight against Mordremoth.

We found the nesting area of the mordrem.

The apostate from GW1 wrote that God’s are not eternal, their power cannot be destroyed but passed on, much like how Elder Dragon’s work.

The 6 orb mechanism we saw in the eternal alchemy has a name that was given by the Apostate from GW1 called the Antikytheria.

That’s about all I can think of for right now without going back and replaying the episode.

In the first mission dialogue with the Destiny’s Edge, we say that if Rytlock didn’t come back before the attack on Mordremoth, we are going to pick him.

Really? You’re going to list every small thing? One could do the same for this patch. What you’re doing is no different than what car dealerships do with car features by listing everything they can possibly list to make it seem like buyers are getting a lot.

Besides, your post was about the story and made no mention of release content.

Sure. I’ll create a list just like you did in the same style.

Also, a some of what you listed we already knew BEFORE that update.

EDIT:

And here’s my list done the same way as yours.

  • Destiny’s Edge 1.0 are in Silverwastes
  • They did not know Glint had an egg.
  • Taimi is learning about heat ratios and metal densities from the Charr.
  • Taimi is on her way back to Rata Sum.
  • Caithe is acting weird and following the Boss (the player).
  • Canach knows about the dragon egg and thinks it should be destroyed.
  • There’s been no change in the Pale Tree’s condition.
  • Master of Sun died with the other two Masters going back to camp.
  • Master of Peace dies.
  • Caithe steals the egg and runs off saying there’s no time to explain.
  • Everyone is going to meet up in the Grove.

See, I can be ridiculous and name the smallest and minute details revealed too. The quantity of random bits of information does not matter. We’re talking about the overall progression of the story.

But let’s address your list.

Belinda was a ghost terrorizing Fort Salma.

We knew this the patch right after whichever episode it was that she died.

Belinda’s ghost is now infused into Belinda’s blade which Marjory now wields.

Ok.

When an Elder Dragon dies and leaks magic into the world, there is an imbalance and another dragon will take its place. Tequatl became stronger because of this.

Speculation on both.

The deep sea dragon’s name starts with an S.

And it may not.

Zhaitan is indeed dead, thanks to part of him hanging in the Hidden Arcana.

We already knew this after completing the personal story. That could also be the part of his tail that got shot off during the battle. He was still alive after that…

The master of peace was indeed holding an egg.

The pact was making a base in the Silverwastes.

Destiny’s Edge 1.0 would also be assisting in the fight against Mordremoth.

Ok

We found the nesting area of the mordrem.

Speculation.

This came before the episode.

It wasnt as much about answering questions, but more about advancing one part of the story – our hunt for the egg. We did learn a few significant points, specifically information about the Master of Peace/his role, that the egg holds some kind of power for whichever faction has it, and that Caithe was planning to/did betray us.

While these may seem minor (and some are arguing, obvious, even though that is easy to do post patch), they do set us up for what’s next.

Right now, we have three primary conflicts/situations that eventually have to be resolved:

  • The assault against Mordremoth
  • The ownership/fate of Glint’s egg
  • The Rytlock situation

This week’s patch didnt do much to advance the assault or the Rytlock story, but it did advance the story of Glint’s egg, which is obviously much more important than anything else going on right now.

The only story I really expect to be resolved by the end of this season is Mordremoth, with a major aerial/land assault occurring sometime in December. I, however, suspect that the egg and Rytlock stories will advance in such a way as to make Mordremoth’s defeat feel less important in the grand scheme of the story (probably something to do with the Eternal Alchemy, human gods and the Mursaat).

I agree. We had two boss fights and the first one only being fun ,the last one in the labyrinth was too easy and long.

The only new lore we got was in the end with Caithe. That’s one thing.

I’ve got a bad feeling that the new format of the living story journal is going to promote a sort of “Lost” style of storytelling.

1. intro
2. exposition
3. rising action
4. plot twist
5. tangent
6. plot twist
7. repeat 4-6 a few hundred times
8. unsatisfying conclusion

i agree with that

and the problem with that is the reader, watcher, or player can become very fatigued of having cliffhanger after cliffhanger after cliffhanger, with no satisfying advancement or answers to current open ended plot lines

snippit

the problem with your list is it doesn’t answer open ended questions

DE being in SW was a gimme because we had finally found out what they had been up to in the Echoes patch

We already knew DE wouldn’t know about the dragon’s egg, the only people who are supposed to know are the Brotherhood of the Dragon, and then eventually the Zephyrites who took over. The only reason we have found out is because kitten is hitting the fan.

Taimi learning about heat ratios and going back to Rata sum doesn’t answer any part of an open ended question.

Caithe acting weird doesn’t answer anything.

We already knew the aspect masters were trying to find the master of peace and them getting killed answered zero questions

We found the master of peace but were still kittened knowing where he was going because he was attacked and didn’t reach his final destination, and we didn’t get to hear what he was going to tell us, MORE QUESTIONS!

Caithe steals the egg, MORE QUESTIONS!

The pale tree’s condition is the same as when we left her is the only real answer we got of the patch, but most people assumed her condition to still be rough and possibly slowly dying after getting kittened by the dragon.

my list had 4 things you okayed as answers, and 3 “speculation” answers that were put in books and reading text that devs put into the game….i’m sure that text isn’t too important

but I digress they are speculation, so my 4 answers to your 0 answers, possibly 1 about the condition of the pale tree

this patch sucked….but i’m hoping this is only because like in season 1 they had a big patch, and the a mini-story patch 2 weeks later that kind of wrapped things up, followed by another big story patch

so i guess we’ll see

Yeah and most of what you listed was either speculation or brought on more questions. Lack of progression of the main story arc is what I have seen a lot of people complain about.
