Unaccessible items of the living story
If everyone knew they would offer LS items in the gem store, there wouldn’t be as much urgency to participate in the LS.
As someone who’s participated in all of the Living Stories to date, I’d support there being some way for newer players to obtain the skins too. Maybe not via the gem store (that does seem like a bit of a cop out), but perhaps via a “Flashback” NPC that lets you go in with a group and do stuff like the Aetherblade Retreat dungeon. If they’re willing to put in the effort, I don’t see why they should be denied the reward, regardless of when they completed the content. (Same way that players in GW1 could complete the campaigns, the Bonus Mission Pack, or farm dungeons for unique skins anytime they wanted.)
I definitely like the thought of a flashback. There are so many super-time reliant events that it’s almost unforgiving to be away from GW2 more than a week or so. I personally lost about 8 months while I was in Afghanistan last year. All of the miss-able skins/titles/achievements give me an OCD twinge. And it’s not something I’d likely pay for in the Gem store since I would still like to enjoy the contend and game-play. I truly feel for players just now starting the game.. It’d bug me too much probably.
I think they could probably be added to the black lion weapon specialist for 5 (or even 10?!) tickets. It’d make them be available again, but with a high cost so that they are still a bit special.
Some may have deleted them because of space issues, which no longer exist due to the new wardrobe system, where all of them are shown and this is teasing me pretty hard.
This is exactly the problem I have with some of the skins, e.g. the injection backpack piece (don’t know the exact name, but the Nightmare Aftermath one) I got it but I didn’t have it wenn the wardrobe was introduced.
Maybe a dungeon that gives out tokens that can be used to buy old LS skins.
Oooh, that’s a nice idea, Astral! The Flashback NPC lets you redo any of the past LS instanced content, which has a reward chest at the end. Taking a page from SAB, these chests drop tokens and have a rare chance to drop a sellable version of past LS skins. Otherwise, you can accumulate the tokens and trade them for an account bound version of the skins.
With the introduction of the Wardrobe, I think there’s a much larger market for people wanting to “collect them all” (or at least as much as they can afford) too, so it could prove a useful activity/gold sink for the game going forward.
I can understand the frustration of this. There are several items I wish I had gotten. So it would be great to find a way to get them. I really hope they do. On the other hand I’m also okay if it doesn’t happen because it would take away from the limited time only items uniqueness for players that already have these items.
Gotta be the Devil’s Advocate here, sorry.
As someone who has participated in all the Living World content to date (and who only gets an hour or two a week to play, which I dedicate to LW), skins earned are the only way to display my achievements and my dedication to be a part of the moving and changing world, apart from a couple of titles. They’re badges of honor. It was the same way for the longest time with holiday and special event skins in GW1. If those become readily available, suddenly they mean nothing to players like me.
Some would argue it’s about the look, not the prestige, but I disagree. There are a lot of armors and weapons to choose from in this game, and there will be a lot more in the future as season 2 rolls out. I’d encourage new players to look forward to making their mark now, rather than pushing for rewards from events they weren’t around for. Even making them re-playable destroys the historical significance of the event.
Anet said from the beginning they were looking to build a game with permanence, meaning things happen and stay happened. Honestly, I’d love more one-time huge finales like the Karka Queen. It doesn’t make sense to stomp Mai Trin’s face in 300 times, or to be able to go back in time a year later and do it again.

I do agree with you, but the skins that you’ve earned but no longer have should be made available in wardrobe..

That’s true, I actually recall a thread with a similar sentiment regarding the lower level Mad Memoires. I do fully support unlocking skins on accounts that did earn them but had to remove them for space in the pre-wardrobe era, though I’m not sure if that’s something that is tracked or can be proven. If it can, it needs to be done. If not, well, it’s unfortunate but no one’s losing anything. Just not getting something that was destroyed before any official release regarding a wardrobe and therefor a personal decision. I held on to all of mine, but partly because I’m a ridiculous pack-rat.
+1 to OP, I would willingly pay to buy some of the old LS skins that I have missed along the way or deleted due to space.
Well, if all I have to do is wait for the LS to get to the flashback npc, and then I get all these neat stuff quite easily, why should I bother doing the living story? Just come back every so often, and do the flashback npc, and win! Would you like a free legendary, because you haven’t been playing since the start, and missed out on the opportunity to collect all the mats and gold and karma, like other people?
What makes you think the Flashback NPC’s content would be any easier than the original Living Story? For example, say you wanted a Monocle. Or the Jetpack. You’d still have to complete the original Molten Facility or Aetherblade Retreat via the NPC, at its original difficulty. How is that any different from the players who completed the dungeons during the original release and got lucky? All that’s changed is that instead of only having 2 weeks to farm the dungeon, you have however long the lifespan of GW2 is.
I think a “historical server” would work well. A server anyone can guest to that runs through the old content, that way you could experience the content exactly like it was the first time, with plenty of other players. It would still keep the achievements and skins kind of exclusive as well while letting players who missed it have another shot at the content each time it cycles through.

Why do you bother playing at all? I mean, it’s not like the game is fun right?
