I figured out how to kill the gate guardian and by association, the rest of the instance. You have to run through the circular crystal thing at the beginning to become “Fragile”. The gate guard will take this “fragile” effect from you and then you can kill it. You have to use this mechanic to beat the next 2 bosses. They are basically the same fight, the 2nd one just hits harder and you have to use the atunement effects from the previous fight as well. You cannot actually attack the bosses, you just keep becoming fragile and then killing the Vortex Crystals which damage the boss.

I had a lot of fun and it looked awesome. It feels like Gw1 and The glints lair mission also took some time there.

Loved it. I’m missing a few aspects ^^ but It’s good for now

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Keep in mind that in order to destroy vortexes in the last fight you have to:

1. Get the “shield”
2. Kill the small Facet
3. Attach the color infusion to correct vortex color
4. While you got all above, destroy the vortex. You have to be in melee range (light indicator) in order to kill the vortex)

Then you do almost the same thing except you don’t play with colors anymore – but the boss is mobile.

Rinse repeat till he die.

I’m also not sure if he’s not vulnerable to siphons and leeches same as Liadri was. He still takes damage and siphons should bypass reduction, so I guess you could eventually kill him without playing with mechanic.

Didn’t even get that far. Found the earlier miniboss to be annoying, and also that it resets fully if you fall to the bottom of the map (but not if said boss kills you).

Died countless times @ the last boss. Did everything right. Was doing kitten all damage (20-50 if that, per hit), died atleast 20 times. Finally had to give up. Anet make your kitten bosses actually killable. I don’t want to spend 2 hours doing cruddy damage, dying 100+ times just to defeat it.

My eye is literally twitching right now from the frustration.

You can only kill the green vortex with the Fragile buff and the Green thing from killing the minion. Then you have to go into the green light and not leave it until you kill the Vortex, otherwise you’ll just get knocked back

One of my vortexes keeps spawning behind a wall… literally just wasted an hour trying to kill the boss without using it, only to have it regen on me. It’s amazing how the story was so good, and I was loving it so much, and it just turned into the worst experience ever because of that vortex behind the wall. Sooooooo frustrating!!!!!!

Took me a bit to get this. But it is a bit sensitive on how close you need to be to the crystal aka standing right on it.

I breezed through the Darkness boss with chain lightning, so I didn’t really need to stand directly on them.

Last boss was a bit confusing because of order of having to pick things up. Overall interesting fight/mechanics but there is really no indication other then trial and error on the order that I picked up on at least.

Kill summoned facet/get color buff, get fragile shield, get color buff from aura on vortex, stand on vortex directly in the middle of it and melee range it.

I finished this puzzling set of three fights. I still do not know how I did damage to the bosses. Some of them would drop 25% instantaneously, one even did it while I was conversing with a friend in guild chat, I was not hitting him at the time. It makes no sense at all. How did he drop 25% damage when I WAS NOT HITTING HIM? How did I actually damage these bosses? I still do not know.
How they ever thought this was entertaining is just beyond me. And who in their right mind wants to redo it over and over, I thought it was supposed to be a living world, not one you relive over and over, utterly stupid.

My only gripe with it is the fact it can bug out on the last boss. I managed a successful run on my 3rd attempt – just ensuring I kited him around the triangle in the middle kept the Vortex spawning/spawning where its actually visible.

As for actually killing him it’s a fairly straightforward mechanic once you’ve worked it out, and personally im glad it wasnt just spoonfed to me. You don’t even need to worry too much about doing things in a perfect order you just need to be able to kill the Vortex inside the colour before you leave it. A number of times I killed the minion with fragile on – just make sure you dodge/block any damage.

I couldn’t get any of the fragile buffs in the last fight because they were all smack in the middle of multiple rings upon rings of instant death. Marjory was stuck in the middle of that whacking away at the Vortex and could not move away.

I really don’t want to do this over again either. Checkpoints would be nice on this one. It just became too long for me to keep focused. I did think the fights were interesting and was figuring them out but the last one was a deal breaker for me.

Finally did it after some trial and error. Getting endurance for dodge helps avoid those area effects. But, once you know the correct pattern, it isn’t as hard of a fight.

Once you get the pattern down, it’s not that bad. But until then, it’s pretty awful.

I’m glad I was playing a ranger and had my pet to help scrape me off the floor when I messed up a time or two. It also took me far too long to realize that you run THROUGH the “fragile” aura to get the buff/debuff on you. I kept trying to get them to hit me with it directly.

I personally enjoyed it. I see myself replaying the mission multiple times, not just to complete the achievs but because it feels so much like gw1.

The final boss is pretty tedious unfortunately. Your best bet is to spec for mobility/dodge and if you’re feeling too squishy, try some non-zerk for padding. Still, gear doesn’t mean much, depending on how the mechanics happen together.

Here is a brief breakdown for those of you who are struggling (particularly the last boss, but it includes mechanics from the earlier bosses as well):


There is one key way to damage the final boss: You have to pick up a white orb on the ground (it gives you the “fragile” buff), take it to where one of the mini Vortexes is, and then stand in the radius of its white absorption circle (which activates something like every 2-3 seconds). If you pull that off without getting downed, you can then hit the Vortex with any attack and it will die.

This will damage the boss.

During part of the fight, you’ll see a layer of complexity added: The mini Vortex will have a beam of light surrounding it that knocks you back if you go near it. During this phase, you need to locate the little dude that tries to attack you (it isn’t hard to locate him – he’ll find you pretty quickly). He has the same model as the boss, except smaller.

You need to kill him, the same way you do in earlier fights (normal attacks). It’ll give you a buff matching the color of the beam of light that’s protecting the mini Vortex.

NOTE: Don’t go to the mini Vortex with this buff until you’ve picked up the fragile buff. This is why it’s a layer of complexity.

Your goal during this part goes: Kill attacker > pickup white orb > go to mini Vortex while his white circle is up > attack mini Vortex. (Rinse, repeat as necessary).

Some general tips:

  • Try to plan a path before you grab the buff(s) (either fragile buff or the one from killing the little dude). They have a temporary duration. You have some room to kitten around, but not much.
  • As with similar bosses earlier in the instance, you cannot damage the big guy directly (technically, I think you can do a little damage, but it’s negligible). The only way to hurt him is indirectly by killing his mini Vortexes.
  • Try to kill little dude “attacker” in an area that is somewhat away from the white orb and the mini Vortex. You want a clear path to getting an orb and then getting to the mini Vortex. If you are fighting right by the orb or Vortex, you raise the chances of getting a purple lightning field plopped right where you need to go.
  • Watch for combinations of mechanics: Same idea as tip #2. Sometimes he will try to drop a purple lightning field on you while you’re going to grab the white orb. This is invariably an instant down if the two combine – fragile makes you super weak and then lightning field finishes you.

And really Anet, first you teach us not to run into kitten in that zone because it hurts you. THEN in the second area you force us to run into kitten to progress? Sigh…

but for real thanks for this thread. It boggles my mind why the put in a random mechanic where you have to run into some obscure crap at the start of an area to kill something all the way at the end. You’re supposed to at least teach the B.S. mechanics before you throw in crap like that…

I thought the whole thing did a great job of teaching the pieces of the fight and then stitching them together at the end. This despite my being a fairly clueless sort at figuring these things out.

My first run through I got stymied a time or two. I got Fragile and then avoided all the floor crystal shatters and of course didn’t have Fragile by the time I got to the invulnerable crystal. I read the crystal’s description, said "Oh, THAT is what that ‘Fragile’ is for, ran back, got Fragile, and just booked to the thing — discovering along the way that the floor crystals look hazardous but aren’t, at all.

Then the crystal attunement boss was a pain, my health was ticking away and I kept bouncing off the color pylons. But when I had a moment to read the summoned fragment description I went OOHHHHH and then got through it, just kiting the summons until their buff went away then pouncing them.

After that all went pretty smoothly except for the time pressure of “A new build will be available in X minutes,” and my earlier stumbling blocks cost me badly as I got kicked out just one void crystal from beating the boss. At which point I had to go do errands for a while, and came back and yeah, I was back out in the Priory and had to start from the very beginning. Though I did it all much faster the second run through.

The thing is I had so much fun figuring it out on my own, albeit with plenty of game guidance, that I have no complaints anything like those in this thread. And having done it on my super squishy not great DPS thief, I have a feeling it’s going to be a breeze on my actual combat alts. (Though stealth was a fantastic way to wait out the buff on the summoned shards).

Damage really wasn’t an issue for me. The attacks are so obviously choreographed with the red/orange circles and only actually cause a problem if you stray into the field attacks or accidentally go Fragile. On my full zerker dungeon warrior build I had no issues with the deaths.

For me the trickiest one to figure out was the first boss with Vortexes. I knew what I had to do but took me a while to notice he was throwing the Fragile circles onto the ground… The first couple of times he hit me direct so I started assuming that was the way to do it. The light boss was a very similar mechanic to the kill Scarlett part of S1 and also they’d shown us that you got the colour buff in the running bit before hand so I worked that out immediately. (Plus on a zerker warrior I was getting him 90% down after just one set of attacks)

The last boss just take loads of mobility and you’ll only get hit if you’re unlucky. Battle sigils would certainly help but I didn’t use them and was fine. Then the only tricky bit is knowing that you’ll get knocked out of the coloured light beams if you don’t have the relevant colour on you so mkae sure you get Fragile and colour buff before entering then dont leave until you kill the vortex. That and pray it doesn’t bug out/force a new patch on you >.< (not bitter)

I honestly really liked the mechanics in the Lair. It took me a couple of minutes to figure them out as I went through with my husband, and we definitely got downed a few times at the last boss (got hung up trying to get the light shield AND get fragility onto the silly vortex), but we had blast doing it.

I did like they didn’t just turn it into ‘dodge or die’ 1-hit kill crap again. Even when I didn’t dodge in time, or I got bounced into the middle zone (ie: when you get too close to the light pillar without the color buff, or with the wrong color), it didn’t instagib me (on an ele). I could actually hop into the zone, lay a lava font, and dodge back out successfully without dying (without the buff), which was neat. It was much appreciated, at least by me.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Anyway, it was fun trying to figure out the mechanics of each fight. After you get them down, they’re honestly not that hard. I went for the story achievements afterward and got all four in one go.

Yeah .. nearly the same here .. i also wrote that in the bug section that some
checkpoints would really help in such overlong instances, especially if its either bugged
or you have a DC.

I could get the fragile buff when i got the green buff first, but as soon as i had the
fragile buff i was knocked back when i tried to attack the vortex until the fragil buff
normally timed out.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Have the same problem here. I cannot take the Fragile buffs ‘cause the moment I get them I die. Instantly. Honestly, I’m NOT doing all that instance again… It’s very, very long and I was in constant fear of having to start it over.

Have the same problem here. I cannot take the Fragile buffs ‘cause the moment I get them I die. Instantly. Honestly, I’m NOT doing all that instance again… It’s very, very long and I was in constant fear of having to start it over.

I wished I had taken a screen shot of the multiple non-going away death rings in front of the colored aura with the fragile buffs all in the middle. They were not spawning any place else either and it was impossible to get to them. I had the mechanics of the fight pretty much figured out but with Marjory also stuck where she was whole fight was a big exercise in futility. I will probably try again or maybe do it with a group once it is patched.
