So, I was watching the trailer today and noticed that at the very end, the Charr with the rifle had a coat that I was unfamiliar with. The shoulder pads were medium, and he was wielding a rifle so I figured that the Charr was an Engi with a perhaps a new chest piece that was simply teased in the trailer.

Well, I did double check the items in question and the Charr actually has two light pieces and the shoulder piece is medium as well as the gauntlets. The two light pieces are the chest and the pants. Here are the items:

Chest- Seer Coat
Pants- Seer Pants
Shoulders-Rubicon Shoulderpads
Gauntlets-Rubicon Gauntlets

I just thought it was odd and never saw it done before. You can look at the pictures to see the comparison to my own Charr and you will then be able to see that there was a combination of medium and light armor. I doubt this is teasing some weird feature where armor weights wouldn’t matter anymore for looks, but interesting to point out, I suppose

Good find. Someone who made this video forgot about armor consistency…

Haha yes I think it was an oversight, though I secretly hope it’ll be a thing one day. That would alleviate a bit of the vanishing town clothes catastrophe.^^

This is nothing all that out-of-the-ordinary, really. NPCs aren’t bound by the same rules as the players. They can equip whatever weapons or armor they want regardless of “class”. Heck, I believe I remember hearing that one of the Asura NPCs in the Council actually wears human cultural armor.

I heard that shoulders and gloves work differently than the rest.

I do hope they consider removing weights off glove/shoulder skins someday.

It’s not the first time this has happened. I was playing the personal story yesterday when your capturing the Docks in cursed shore. There was a charr in heavy armour using a shield and pistol.

Mmm, didn’t know about other NPC’s wearing mixed armor pieces. I just noticed it in this particular instance, of course.

Kain, some items from the gemstore( and achievement rewards) can be applied regardless of armor weight. Examples such as these are the Lawless pieces and Scarlet’s Grasp and Spaulders, then the armor weight doesn’t matter. But in this specific case, the gloves and shoulders are strictly from the medium sets.

Edited this bit in- Yeah, I’ve noticed NPC’s using weapon combinations that wouldn’t be for, as in your example, a heavy weighted class. But I kinda figured that was just NPC specific things. I believe Rytlock in some instances using a sword and pistol, and has skills of both a warrior and a thief. heh

Nice find, I didn’t even look at the close at it! Can this be a thing, ANet? Like for real!

I know I’m not the first one who made the suggestion as I’m sure plenty of others have but the responses were all the same rhetorical comments of how armor types are built so differently that they wouldn’t mesh well. All armors need is a fix with those that don’t but I would love to wear light armors on my heavies or heavies on my light while still getting the value of my respected weight class. TOR had done this with armorings when they introduced Adaptable Armor Sets, surely with enough time ANet could do it here.
