I’ve been a huge GW2 fan and played the heck out of GW1. ArenaNet changed direction by somehow making it so everything ended up being about the Elder Dragons.

Now I’m a bit curious as to which the Karka, Molten Alliance, and things like the Super Adventure Box really have to do with the Elder Dragons and when we will be getting new Elder Dragons and how Cantha and Elona will come into place, and any other continent on Tyria. We have small bits of lore about Cantha and Elona, and the remaining Elder Dragons still have quite an impact on the current world, but we have yet to travel to the depths of Tyria. We have yet to travel to the far northern Shiverpeaks, and we have yet to visit the Crystal Desert.

What exactly do these Karka and Molten Alliance have to do with the lore ArenaNet has created with the Dragons? Are the Dredge and Flame Legion making one final push? Are the Karka the minions of the Infamous Dragon known as “Bubbles”? Is Southcove always going to be a barren wasteland that’s only use is two oricalcum nodes?

It is quite likely that the Karka turned up again because of the Deep Sea Dragon, so that would tie into the Elder Dragon story.
We do not know the reason for the Molten Alliance, so it is also possible that it might have something to do with the Dragons.
As for Southsun Cove it is already quite clear (from the F&F story line) that we will see new camps/cities over there rather soon, with all the refugees.

Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that not every single release must have something to do with a specific storyline. Out in the real world things don’t really work like that after all. Things happens that have nothing to do with each other all the time.

I’d guess that the other Elder Dragons will be featured in paid game expansions. Each expansion will feature a “new” map area opened up — far Shiverpeaks for Jormag,
Crystal Desert for Kralkatorrik, and under-Tyria for Primordus.

The elder dragons will certainly be paid expansions, they’re too big and grand to not be. If you been following the flame and frost story, you’ll know all the refugees are going to live on southsun cove for work and a new life. Yet, there is something mystery at hand here why the consortium is being so nice and offering a new “whole world”. If you’ve read all the dialogue with the refugees, you’ll notice the grawl seem to be most insightful as the chieftan says " There smiles do not meet their eyes" obviously this is foreboding nod to whats to come for these refugees along southsun cove. Perhaps it might become a new harbor city south of LA to expand into the “Unending Ocean” We’ll just have to wait and see

I wish you couldn’t kill these elder dragons. It’s such a cheesy hollywood-esque solution. It kills all tension of “There are dangerous forces looming out there, that can actually kill me”.

Would be cool if these dragons landed occasionally, wrecking actual havoc instead of just flying around being noisy.

Maybe its too much to ask of an MMO.

Problem is if these dragons “landed occasionally” they would destroy everything around them.
Kralkatorrik created the Dragonbrand by simply flying over it. That is a rather massive area and more or less everything in that area was corrupted by it simply flying past. Having it land would most likely destroy every single thing in the area.
Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that they are massive.
As in larger than most towns in the game.

It doesn’t HAVE to have anything to do with the elder dragons, we all know the flame legion is evil and wants to take over the world, and they probably convinced the dredge to help them do it. The elder dragons aren’t the cause of everything in a “living” world.

To my mind it’s more realistic this way. In real life things don’t work in a calm, logical order. Just because there’s one threat doesn’t mean all the others are put on hold, politely waiting their turn until their enemies are ready for them. If anything they’re more likely to all rush in at once, hoping the other side will be too overwhelmed to even notice.

Likewise everyday life doesn’t end because there’s a threat to the world. Look at World War 1 and 2. No one had ever seen a conflict on that scale before, many people genuinely believed it could be the end of the world. But people still went to work (the ones who didn’t join the army), kids still went to school, people moved house and got married and kept up with their hobbies.

Likewise just because there are dragons attacking Tyria doesn’t mean every single person is directly and entirely focused on defeating them. Some still have to grow the food and build the houses and in the case of the asura invent crazy new things like the Super Adventure Box.
