What got me into Guild Wars 2
At first I was just looking for a different MMO I was tired of the standard games, I had hoped GW2 would be different. Which it is, however the gameplay here is not my fave. What keeps me around is I have fallen in love with the world. It is hands down my fave fantasy setting. I really am loving the slightly Steampunk mixed with High Fantasy feel to the game (best way I know to describe it)
Honestly? I was a GW1 player……
I played GW1 a lot and so migrated to GW2 at release. It is a quality product and with Mike O’Brien in charge I’m not overly concerned with what GW2 does at this time. However there are concerns for what I see as the more ‘bureaucratic’ elements that make GW2 more of a business and less of a game…..
Does that make sense?
Anyways I like GW2 but its not GW1, I stick around mainly for WvW. Without the fights, the variety in fights you can create and the communities behind them, I wouldn’t be half as interested in GW2.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
I played GW1. The second I was a GW2 trailer with an asura jumping out of the golem, I instantly wanted to buy it. Sadly you don’t have that cool animation when jumping out of the golem and the golem itself lives only 60 seconds (seriously, why didn’t they put a permanent one in the gem store, make it 2000 gems, I don’t care. It could have no attacks or attacks would not deal damage, just give me anything).
What got me into the game was the LS. I was tired of being 6 months literally “jumping in the hub” doing the same duels, spars, dungeons over and over… and when it wasn’t possible, just hours and hours doing n-o-t-h-i-n-g but jumping around.
GW2 promised me to have monthly updates, and… i must say that i made a right decission.
Some updates are useless for me, as example the edge of the mists, since i’m focused on PvE only. However i understand that gw2 is built on a trinity, pve, wvsw and pvp, so…… i don’t mind having some updates for the other guys playing the game, i’m still having a LOT of new content to do each month. This was expected and i like it.
By the way, tower of the nightmare…….. was… E-P-I-C, it made me feel as same as i felt the first time i was doing the modniir event at the north of harathi. That’s what got me in love with the game.
Aens / Ellantriel / Nao To Mori / Saelyth. Commander
Guias de Raids en español / Spanish raiding guides
What got me into GW2 was that the payment model was friendly to the idea that I could put the game down for a few weeks and not lose out on anything.

There were quite a few selling points for me:
1) -German language client.
Playing World of Warcraft helped me learn English, and as I had already started learning German by the time I found out about this game, I was extremely thrilled that I would be able to have that experience again(learning a new language by playing a game I like).
2) -PvP.
Everyone being the same in PvP, and being able to level up by doing PvP/WvW was incredible. Finally I would be able to do what I like, and be properly rewarded for it.
3) – Asura and charr.
I will not lie, had it not been for these two races I would probably not have started playing. I need races that aren’t humanoid. In fact it was a trailer featuring an asura warrior that initially caught my attention.
Norn, sylvari and human are all the same. Except that one is tall with big muscles, and the other one is green with flowers coming out of its butt.
4) -Dying.
After seeing the dye system in GWII I won’t even think about an MMO if it doesn’t have such a system. The customization is unbeliveable, you can have over 15 people standing in the exact same armour, but with different dyes you can make them look so different.
5) -Character creation.
When I first saw the character creation in this game I was absolutely sold. Charr have the best customization, and I couldn’t believe the way you could change your characters. You can essentially have 3 charr, all with the same body, face and hair, but due to the customization you can make them look completely different. I have never seen anyone that looked exactly like me, and that amazes me.
6) -Dynamic events.
This simply blew my mind. No more having to talk to an npc and see him say that the centaurs over on that hill have been attacking them for days.
Instead I get to experience them attack, i get to fight them off, and if I fail then they will take over the town!
Just thinking about the moment I first saw that part of the trailer gives me chills. The excitement I felt cannot be described.
7) – The personal story.
Going through the personal story for the very first time was without doubt one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had in a game. Korukhan, Demmi, Tybalt, Reeva, Rytlok, Ballista, the skritt whose name I can’t spell, and everyone else – man there were a lot of great characters.
I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it here.

pretty much this. Im missing the armors to show our charrs fur though =/ The tail clipping issues are a bit of a letdown too.
However the customization in this game is awesome.
What keeps me playing is my guild. From time to time its living story too (more now than half a year ago). Im quite interested in what the next season will bring.
Good post. Summed it up. It’s wrong to feel relieved that living story will soon be taking a break

The reason I wanted to play GW2 was the lore, personal home instances and extended background story.
Most of that isn’t in the game, but fortunately they have an immensely fun combat system. And who knows? Once they’re done with the poor storyline of Scarlet, lore in this game may actually pickup again. At least the side characters are nice. Now all they need is a believable villain.
After seeing every possible thing and knowing almost everything about the WarCraft lore and setting, after thousands of those quests (reading the quest description included), thousands times of Azeroth exploration and countless amount of dungeons/raids only to get another expansion to do the same thing another countless amount of times,..
…this beautifully-crafted and unique world of Tyria is a pearl on it’s own to me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t playing Guild Wars 1, but how gorgeous and marvelous this world feels to me isn’t to be described by words. Gameplay also feels very fluid and smooth to me. On the bonus side, I can focus on exploration, lore, adventure and gain levels for that easily without any leveling in mind.
Just awesome.
Hello,
I’m creating this post to ask you what got you hooked to Guild Wars 2. What about it made you think this game is awesome?
Here is mine : http://imgur.com/a/bi0yw
I am doing this thread because I hope that the developers for the LS read it and perhaps find the popular things and carry them over into the LS more. I’m interested in what everyone else’s features caused them to love Gw2 like I do.
From your album there
It is to no surprise that Bazaar of the four winds and SAB are the two most popular LS updates of the year. Both present new zones, each that touched on those feelings that got players hooked on Guild Wars 2 in their first leveling experience. They presented areas to explore, people to talk to, secrets to find, and enemies to conquer. New environments both dangerous and beautiful. I hope that the living story returns to this feeling. This design that it takes place in a world. A world where you’re not looking at a time limit. A world where you’re not thinking how many more times can I do this today? A world where exploration, wonderment, and adventure is in no shortage. Just like those days when you leveled your first 80.
I started a year ago, right when Flame and Frost was just getting going. I didn’t know enough about it so I went exploring, finding my own way and I agree that the environments. A certain amount of danger and trepedation in exploring these lands. I hadn’t fully explored till mid-September but I had many memorable encounters along the way. The Charr certainly got me here (on viewing the female model and thinking ‘wonder what the females look like?’ and then going ‘[POOP], really?’) but it was the world that kept me here.
Then I started trying to get the LS story stuff and at first it seemed alright but after doing it for the last four months (not counting Jan-Feb as I’ve barely logged in) I’m ready to just walk away. The intangible timing of “will this one be four weeks or just two? Or maybe more?” and the relentless grind if you want the reward pieces have just slowly worn me down. And Scarlet… has just infuriated me.
GW1. My friends loved it and wanted me to join them. Then we flowed to playing GW2. I’m unsure if we would be playing GW2 if it were not for GW1, since there isn’t much of what we loved in GW1 any longer. But, it’s become our weekly get-together online game, so here we are.
I wouldn’t agree that I’m “hooked” or that “I think this game is awesome.” I play because my IRL friends play.
-the new playable races in gw2 are unique and not the same boring orc, elf, troll kitten.
-the artstyle. ever since they showed us the first footages and screenshots (was it 5 years ago ? or 4 ? well long ago !) i fell in love with the graphics and the overall art style it has.
-classes and the weapons they can wield. for example that mesmers are magicians that can also use swords, greatswords, pistols, and not just magic weapons like staff, scepter or focus. same for guardian, they are heavy armor class and use swords, shields and greatswords BUT they can also use magic weapons like staff, scepter and focus. i LOVE this! and warrs that can use longbow or rifles. rangers that can go melee with swords.
-character creation. its not natural that mmos have THAT much of character creation options. (the only other mmo that had alot of choice was aion if i remember right but other than that you can usually only change a little bit).
-personal story that branches out
-living story. at first i was suspicious and i ignored the first couple of chapters (i regret by now) bazaar of 4 winds totally got me and the later scarlet chapters (those invasions during august) reaaaally caught me ! its like a monthly tv show by now where the player himself gets to play a mainrole. i love it.
-the fact that skins do not represent stats. this way everyone can enjoy their own style without missing stats. i remember other mmos where everyone with super awesome stat gear looked EXACTLY THE SAME. for my mesmer i have a zerker gear that has mixed skins that go together, and a soldier gear that has the lvl 25 embroidered skin i look like a low lvl character when i wear the soldier gear but i just like the pyjama style! and since i dont miss any stats, noone can complain and i can have the looks that i want
After Runescape fell from grace, and the onslaught of bots, the Mods decended down and saw that greed and corruption had reigned the lands. I a high lvl 137 full Ovl and 600m bank then 1337 player of course, didn’t mind the bot slaughter with every patch. Until one day everything changed, the Mods did a world wide regulation spell, only a lvl 101 <age will elite skillcape could pull off. Almost no one survived , and so Mod Mark stepped up as ruler, I saw that the new landscape was not the home I remember , having been a member since 2004 to 2011 I waved goodbye packed it up and left MMorpgs. A friend told me of gw1 but gw2 was coming out, so I bought it. I was on board with the Dragon fights, I remember my first Jormag fight it was so epic. Exploring was fun, fighting was fun, wvw was a scary place. I reached lvl 80 and now the fun has faded. I have tried to move on to other games but gw2 is just too beautiful , I love my mesmer. Please Anet, implement more PvE explorations, more dungeons, instances, bosses, fights, gear weapons, armor , with special effects, unique abilities, I really love this game but idk it just doesn’t feel the same…
