When I saw we had a new build incoming I parked my engineer at Marjory’s camp just to see if anything new was being said among the NPC’s. There isn’t, but when I tried again to check out the limits of the barrier I got close enough to get a screenshot of this:

Not sure if it’s been covered or not, but there’s some kind of magic energy radiating out of the top of that structure and the vines appear very…Sylvari-esque.

How do you do the heart now though? The stuff you had to kill/gather was at the exit to the village, but now you can’t even get close to the exit to the village and the events that used to spawn krait to kill seem to be disabled.

There are still several of those tasks that can be done that do not involve fighting Krait and freeing slaves.

I’m surprised nobody’s brought this up yet…. The underwater vista for the lake shows that whole central area… You get to see the krait structures and the slave cages. There ARE vines wrapping around those structures, but those have been there from release.

That image was added in 2012, so unless the devs have been planning Scarlet and her involvement with the krait blood witch for a full year in advance, I doubt the vines have any relation to her. Granted, I’m not ruling out her involvement, but I AM saying that nothing currently in the game gives away anything beyond the fact that:

1:) The central area of the lake is blocked off.
2:) The krait have been harvesting materials, and forcing their slaves to construct something.
3:) We know that something to be an obelisk due to the relation between the preview image and the concept art, as well as the leaked screenshot.
4:) This is somehow related to the Blood Witch.

It is my speculation that the Blood Witch is finally dead, and the krait of the area are constructing the obelisk as a way to signify her passing, and in doing so are going to, not only harness her power by using the obelisk to capture it and distribute it amongst their higher ranks, but also that they’re attracting some unwanted attention.

Due to the proximity of the Kessex Hills area to the coastline, I’ve always theorized that there was a hidden cave system linking it to the ocean, and that the krait were using it for passage, but were concealing it from non-krait. Perhaps the distribution of magic is drawing a Leviathon from the coast in towards the source (aka, the obelisk), and will show itself in the hidden passages (which may be a part of an underwater path in [what I personally believe will be] a new dungeon).

I may be getting my hopes up, and needlessly speculating, but in reality, half the fun of getting an in-game preview of the next patch is the speculation it creates, and I won’t be upset if I’m wrong. I just hope we get something as equally awe inspiring

Either way within 10-12 hours from now we’ll find out when they post their blog #cantwait!

This is definately interesting. Hopefully it’s not about Scarlet, though. Krait and Dragon corruption? Yes please.

Your speculation sounds so kitten awesome! :p I hope some of those things come true.
They indeed should start working on a way (story) to a new elder dragon.

So if it lures the Leviathan and it is a minion of the deep sea dragon then we could see a lot more lore and information coming for the deep sea dragon. That would also explain the weird Jade Sea fragment picture that Arenanet posted in their screenshots section.

The krait could be using those fragments to lure some dark magic, because I think they still have some magic left in those things even when Shiro died. Or even call upon a supernatural force.

Hate to be a buzz kill but for your own sake, don’t raise your expectations =S. The likelyhood of them just dropping a new playable race like this is highly HIGHLY unlikely, and if anything we’ll most likely see tengu as a new playable race first given that the tengu are the most asked for playable race as well as a race that originally had plans to be in the game at launch until time constraints changed that.

Your only setting yourself up for disappointment thats all =(.

That was why I posted that pic last night, Grenthblood. It’s been quite a while since I’ve brought a character through that area and I couldn’t remember whether what I was seeing was new or not. If the vines have been there all along that makes a case for it not being Scarlet.

I was getting really excited about what these goings on in Kessex Hills might mean lore-wise. What are the Krait up to? Has it anything to do with the Deep sea dragon? Maybe they are trying to reach ascended status(Ala GW1) in some misguided manner. Will the Tengu react? After seeing that page about a “previously unseen ally”(Hint wink nudge Scarlet) my heart sank.

I’m all prepared to wait it out and see what they have in store for us but and I will hang in there for the time being so see what will happen to the world of Tyria, but if this another attempt to tie in some LS content with Scarlet(Plotwise) then I am really starting to worry about the direction the Guild Wars franchise is being taken lorewise.

From getting the story so right with Guild wars 1, to the Personal story in GW2 and now to the Living story where there only seems to be a storyline that ties everything that goes on to a catch all type villain, Arenanet really have to start taking a step back and rethink the strategy for building a living breathing world.

The story behind a game is what should be driving the LS. How about developing current conflicts in the game? Introducing a new conflict after some major world changing event. How about tying up some loose ends lorewise. Not a catch all content release schedule where everything is forced to fit plot-wise to one previously unknown character that does not really make sense in the context of the world and is frankly a pretty lame character.

I understand that there may be some overarching plot here that we may eventually find out but the journey there has to be interesting. Attributing everything that is happening to Scarlet is not interesting, it is lazy. Maybe start developing some parallel, seemingly unrelated going’s on that eventually merge into a major event for the world of Tyria. Not some rubbish were Scarlet is up to something again and we have to go out and save the day. (Thank you for saving me but the Princess is in the other castle)

I just hope they don’t turn whole Kessex Hills into some toxic land because it was my favorite map the way it looked. Would be to bad if this patch would ruin that great map.

As long as that is not the case it looks good. Does not seem to be temporary so thats good. Hopefully any achievements and rewards will this time also be permanent in stead of temporary.

Still not confirmed that Scarlet isn’t involved but it seems more likely that it’s the Nightmare Court given the name and the vague plant like structures. Scarlet would be more mechanical. They could pull another Molten Alliance and simply argue that Scarlet pushed them together. I hope she’s got nothing to do with it, the return of Faolain might be really cool, it could also progress Caithe’s plot a little more.

The obelisk is a place of power for transmuting your Quartz Crystals (does anyone even care about these any more?) and the skill is a new (PvE only?) universal class skill with specific reference to toxin (a new condition specific to the new krait?). Maybe we will be getting more and more PvE only skills tailored towards new content (I assume whatever the tower is, it will involve a lot of conditions)?

The final question for me, is this a new dungeon with different paths, tokens, armour and weapons or are the weapons in the screen shots simply RNG pachinko box money grabs like the past ones?

The voice over was cool the first time (with Twilight Assault) but I’m not a fan of it a second time. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of water content, but the tower looks huge so it could be a lot of fun.

Shard for my home instance, new skill, new Krait, and a change to the map?
I like this beginning, I wonder what else it will have.

/sigh… Know what would be awesome. If this content was here to stay after 2 weeks. Know what else would be awesome. if you guys released the content that fels as if it is clearly missing from the launch. Like you know the carnival games in Divinity’s Rach, or the golem arena in Rata Sum. Or speaking of Kessex Hills, when will we get to see what the floating wizards castle is all about? That is something a lot of players have wondered about since the first patch.

As much as I enjoy the game, there is a lot missing. A lot of the original Guild wars never made the transition we, the player base, hoped for. That being said, PvP hasn’t seen any true love in about three months. If I had to state any time at all, it would be the PAX tourney we last saw an interest in it. There are places that need improvement outside of WvW and the LS. As far as interface goes, skill emplates please.

I do not want to seem as if i am coming off as being a jerk here. That being said lets see some content that is meant to stay in the map, and be able to be accessed later thanks. All the love Anet, and please keep up the good work.

Well the voice did say madness and scarlet represents madness but i realy dont think she is involved i dont think toxin and trees are her forte there would be at least a trace of steam punk if scarlet was involved i am thinking mordrmeth is using the nightmare court to spread his corruption to kessex hills. i will tell you know if the new skins and items are locked behind a RNG paywall imma be so kittening kitten ed it will just ruin this update for me.

AND…..my hopes for some of the backstory and Lore getting filled in just got shot away….

Very cool way to hint at the new update. I think it could have been milked by having the wall appear even earlier, say a month ago to really get people wondering about it but it is nice to get the answer quickly.

I like how this adds to the Halloween theme with a bit of horror, that’s a nice counter to the Mad King’s amusing (if disturbing) silliness.

Actually, I think Scarlet is almost certainly involved. There’s Nightmare Court construction in the new obelisk AND the Krait are using the new Twilight Aetherblade weapons. Since the Nightmare Court do not have a presence in Kessex Hills, somebody must have given the technology to them, and Scarlet seems to be the only uber-villain capable of getting formerly xenophobic evil races to work together.
