What is that Vine doing to the WP!

Im not a centaur expert but i think is more probably that the centaur give us problem than be an ally. Centaur are territorial and aggresive creatures. I imagine this centaur is watching us and preparing some interesting problems (ambush etc..).
Yeah, it seems more likely that they would attack. The Maguuma centaur were always aggressive in GW1. They were always fighting with White Mantle in some parts of the jungle.
I think the only non-aggressive centaur was the tribe in Elona that Zhed Shadowhoof belonged to. And even that tribe could be distrustful of humans, and Zhed himself used the derogatory term “two-legs” when talking to, or about, humans.
I could only see these centaur being friendly out of necessity if they believed that an alliance was their only chance to stand versus Mordy. I think it’s more likely that they are corrupted and already working for him.
There was also Ventari and his followers in the Maguuma that planted and founded the Pale Tree.
if i remember ventari live alone in ventari´s refuge in gw1( tell me if i mistake) . he travelled south to the place where he and ronan planted the pale tree. i imagine this centaur is a member of the hostile magunna tribe from gw1
I’m not sure how many followers Ventari actually had, but this group could certainly be descendants of his followers or other centaur that are against the Modniir’s war against Kryta.
According to an interview with Ree Soesbee and Jeff Grubb (http://www.guildmag.com/magazine/issue9/interview.htm), the Maguuma centaur from GW1 were actually the Harathi that we have in GW2. With the Harathi being focused on Kryta and the war with humans, I don’t think the centaur remaining in the Maguuma Wastes would be members of that tribe. If they are associated with a known/existing tribe, my guess would be the Tamini.
I think it’s more likely that these centaur are not associated with the other known tribes. I don’t see the Harathi or Tamini tolerating the existence of Prosperity. They would have wiped out the town or taken everyone as slaves by now.

Would be an interesting twist if this centaur turns out to be an ally offering help in protecting the Pale Tree… say, from an evil corrupted Nightmare Tree which is the source of the vines (because as we know from sylvari personal story, there’s more than one sylvari Tree in Tyria).

I’ve thought that maybe the Sylvari Trees could actually be servants(or even champions) of Mordremoth, and that the Pale Tree was just “corrupted” by Ventari and now stands against her creator. Mordremoth’s influence could have been involved around the time the Pale Tree’s seed was discovered.
That seed was planted around the same time as Primordus’ awakening, and we have yet to see any signs of him aside from minions. Mordremoth could have begun to wake up long ago, with recent events just speeding up the process and getting his attention. His area of direct influence over plantlife is quite large, and the seed was found in Maguuma Jungle cave guarded by plant creatures. It’s possible that he was responsible for the creation of these seeds that would become the Sylvari race.

I am loving all these sneaky/silent additions to the living world!! The vines (and now the mysterious centaur) have sparked my interest in exploring all of Tyria again. The vines are spreading, and they’re spreading quickly. We’ve gotta check all the maps and waypoints! ~puts on her detective cap and hiking shoes~
What’s most impressive though, is how we can actually see/track the spread of the vines without having to go through any major updates or wait times, even though they’re spreading and affecting multiple maps. It makes the game world feel flawless and so alive!
Fantastic job, ANet!!

Personally I’m wondering if the Centaurs are the bandits whom the citizens of Prosperity pay dues for in exchange for supplies. However, it would also be understandable that a tribe catering to Ventari’s teachings could build up and thrive in the span of 250 years.
I just hope they’re not so connected with the plot and more of civilizations established in what is believed to be desserts. You know… nomads.

Do you mean all the “code talk” you hear around Prosperity? I thought that was actual bandits—such as the ones who make up a third of the Sinister Triad over in Brisban. Since the Inquest is already running amok in Dry Top, it makes sense for the bandits to have spilled over into the region too.
Since the centaur is marked as a non-aggressive “Mysterious Figure” who is only observing, I’m hoping that means he’s a friendly.

Like the lvl 80 champion bandits hiding a gateway in their fort just North of Tangle Root?
Mmmm i think the bandits are the human part of the sinister triad , but if the one who exchange with Prosperity are the centaurs sounds interesting too.

Ok, after a little bit of exploring, these were all the affected WP’s I was able to find. Has anyone found some elsewhere? I plan to do another sweep when I get home tonight.
Also, it’ll be interesting to see if the WP’s being affected will have any correlation to the Thumpers from LS1. There were a lot of intriguing theories (and hilarious pictures) going around about them several months ago.
When i checked this morning, i noticed some of the previously flickering WPs aren’t flickering anymore. Not sure if that’s a different instance of the map thing or some other bug.

At first I thought we had a pattern of them being connected to the leylines, but with Lion’s Arch not being touched, I’m not sure following the leylines is the answer anymore. But we’ll find out in 5 days.

The new cinematic showed a centaur unleashing a raid. Though it didn’t show who they were attacking, I seriously doubt they are friendly

well.. most centaurs in game 1 were enemies as well…
hw about charr xD
i think centaurs might be about 50% chance to acutally be allies
i dont hink playable just because of…four legs dont look too well if controlled by a person who likes to turn around like people do everyday^^
probably some enemy centaurs ..
but i could imagine a hand of friendly centaurs as well..
maybe they aren´t attacking anything. they can be run away from something (something big and with plants like minions) . maybe this big thing has make centaur to run away to new territories.
Can I ask what new cinematic is being discussed that shows centaurs?
There is nothing on the news page or in the launcher.

I always felt the Waypoints work as they do for us. The INDIVIDUAL must have encountered that waypoint at least once. That’s why you don’t see many NPCs using them, many don’t leave their particular area.
Now it does make sense. The most of NPCs couldn’t travel through it because they haven’t discovered others waypoints around the world. We, the players, are the only (or the most of) explorers really walking around the whole world. NPCs hardly leave their region.
A friend just pointed this out to me. I have no idea how long he’s been up there…but we are being watched.
Well pointed, and if you see the teaser vid for the new part you see a centaur watching from a high point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TsfcJz99n4#t=10 So, that centaur isn’t just “watching” us.. :P

Ah, thank you. I thought there was a new video released someplace other than around here. I didn’t realize it was about the beginning of the Entanglement video that spawned the sudden centaur discussion.
Thanks

OK, what are we looking at here? Some of the thumper locations connected together?
Yeah, I did that when we didn’t knew what they ment. Just wanted to see if there was any connection with the vines. I don’t think there is ,though.

What about the thumper in the middle of Lion’s Arch, where the Breachmaker was?

There are actually several thumpers missing from that image.
@Thiagugu
I agree and also do not think thumper placement has any real relationship to the vines and their interaction with waypoints, or at least not yet that we can tell.

The shattered remains of the thumpers, by the way, are still in the game. Kinda makes you wonder, doesn’kitten

OK. I see it now. xD I guess I couldn’t see the forest through the trees.
Odds are Mordy is looking for the Pact using his vines, you know the organisation specifically set up to combat the Elder Dragons, which Mordy is one of.
As for the centaurs, the Magumma type were quite villainous, I remember having to kill two chieftains in The Wilds, no doubt they are still bitter about that.
Kessix Haven Waypoint was the farthest ive seen it spread but today i showed up there to see if a vine popped up yet and its not going crazy anymore (just yesterday it was screwy as it has been) why has it stopped?
Edit: Ive noticed ur map doesnt have that wp marked but its been blinking from corruption from when i saw it 2 days ago, but now its stopped all of the sudden
(edited by onemantankwall.3641)
Its also not a map glitch ive switched many times and the wp is back to normal and i cant find any new ones acting up this is really strange did i catch something i shouldnt have?
Im not a centaur expert but i think is more probably that the centaur give us problem than be an ally. Centaur are territorial and aggresive creatures. I imagine this centaur is watching us and preparing some interesting problems (ambush etc..).
But then we have Ventari, who actually came from the Maguuma Jungle and befriended a human. He greatly disliked violence. We also had centaur allies in Elona, so clearly they aren’t all bad.
Perhaps this is a descendant of Ventari or the tribe he came from?

Lions arch has a treaty with centaurs at the kessix haven i was just talking about, theres friendly centaurs there all the time LA and centaurs are friendly its divinity’s reach thats at war
Just a quick question/theory about something…the globe in the chantry of secrets, could that be a possible map of the ley lines throughout Tyria? If so couldnt we follow the corruption of the vines with it?

I think that they may be descendants from him…the banner in the camp that we saw from breaking out of the map was of pale tree. And in the dream when u make a sylvari, Ventari uses the same model as these centaurs which is reason for them being related.
The Order’s globe is a bit difficult to read, but I don’t think any of the lines displayed there are the ley line we know of. According to the wiki page for the Chanty, “The globe is the Order Threat Assessment Board, indicating draconic and other supernatural threats on a huge scale”.
I did notice one odd thing while looking at the globe. I saw the shadow of something fly across a section of it. It looked similar to the shadows of Zhaitan’s champions seen in Orr. I only saw it once, and didn’t see any birds/bats in the cave.

I always thought Elder Dragons steered clear of each others territory.
The spread of the vines seem to violate that.
It would be an interesting twist if the Branded and Icebrood started fighting Mordremoth’s corruption.
It starts to look serious. There will be probably some waypoint lockdown and we will have to travel to zones by foot.
Did anybody mention how the WP in Fort Selma is now being grabbled, yet?
I’m not necessarily seeing a pattern yet but I haven’t checked all. The WPs in Dry Top are still only being “tapped”.
did anybody checked WvW?

That’s definitely new. I ran past there before work and it was still just being tapped.
Has anyone noticed that most of the WPs with personnel in them, or is a location with a lot of people the ones entangled fully yet? I have a bad feeling that they’re going to cut off reinforcments to those places…

I’m not sure that’s the case. Seems odd then why the Tunnel’s Waypoint was the first of them to get get wrapped around by the vines. Story wise, it doesn’t see too much traffic given that the cave system has three WPs. However, it does seem for right now that the Waypoints on the Northern tops of Kissex Hills are only be subjected to. Not finding any South. All the same, the Waypoint next to the zone-in for Metrica isn’t being touched either.
Earthworks has a vine now, both Cereboth Canyon and Darkwound defile are flickering. Odd that it’s going south, unless it’s actually headed through the dominion of winds? I’ve yet to see Delanian flicker.
