I still do invasions sometimes, just to solo around in PvE and killing things quickly. The events are rather fun to do solo, seeing you are very much outnumbered.

Then suddenly, champion. I was the only one doing the event and I was pretty sure there only was one other person on the map. So I move on to the next event.

Boom, double elite mobs. Welp, my cue to get out of here.

Almost every event ended up spawning a champion, how are players expected to finish invasions?

The elite mobs have nothing to do with scaling, but rather how the enemies combine. 2 Twisted Horrors turn into 1 Veteran Twisted Horror, and 2 Veteran Twisted Horrors turn into an elite… uh, whatever the big flamethrower robots are. Name escapes me at the moment.

I’m not a fan of the mechanic, personally. Its unique, certainly, but a since Twisted Horrors tend to come in large numbers, the mobs fully recover their health when they combine, and veterans are INSANELY tanky, its darn near impossible for a solo player or small group to prevent the combinations from happening. Heck, even in large groups they seem to happen sometimes, only massive zergs stop them consistently. And the elites are actually more dangerous than champions are, they do more damage (and no bonus reward for killing them). I’d be much happier if the combinations stopped at Veteran Twisted Horror, or at least if they only combined into a Veteran giant robot and not an Elite (vets are dangerous enough).

As for the champions spawning when only a couple players are around (or even only one)…. yah. That happens, but its a separate thing. May or may not be intended, I dunno. All invasion events are technically classed as Group Events, which does inherently involve a chance for Champs. So by that token its perfectly justified. But at the same time, most group events that involve groups of enemies only spawn champs with larger groups. An invasions definitely do fall into that category, there are a LOT of mobs during invasion events. Lots of mobs is challenging enough for small groups (or solo), throwing champs in on top of that could be overkill.

When a new portal is opened the spawn is often unrelated to the number of people present, since there are often no people present. Some of these portals in stages 3 and 5 start with a champion, just to make it interesting I suppose.

The portals are meant to be group events so if they don’t break the design if they are too tough for one player to solo.
