So season 2 has ended and i want to know when will next living world be released? (not the expansion pack)

The continuation of the living story (as in what happens after the end of Season 2) will come with HoT.

Season 3 (or 4 depending on if you count HoT as a season) will come after HoT is released.

Or, since they are not doing LW updates until the release of HoT, why not just rerun S1 for everybody, doing just 1 episode a week, in the build up to the HoT release. It would be a sort of “Last time, on Guild Wars 2…” to amp people for HoT. Do it in short durations, just 1 episode a week, and this also gives people holding on to boat loads of random trade items and currencies a chance to exchange in and clean up their bank.

The content is already built, it would just be a matter of rolling back the servers to the older maps.

Lastly, since its content that already happened, maybe aNet can find another ridiculous use for the sepia filter they developed in April

Indeed. The ‘simple’ way to ‘turn it back on’ would be a client rollback, but that would – quite literally – be reverting every single change since those updates.

They’d have to change a lot; and since half of Season 1 took place in Lion’s Arch (Lost Shores, partially Flame and Frost, Dragon Bash/Sky Pirates, instance during Origins of Madness, open world dialogue during Edge of the Mists, Escape from LA/Battle for LA – and likely more I’m forgetting) the old S1 content can’t work with the current open world maps, so they’d have to do alterations.

But at that point, they might as well just work to make Season 1 permanent in the same style as Season 2 – more work, but also permanent results. However, they’ve said they’re putting all resources into developing HoT so that it won’t be delayed any more than it has to.

They do intend to bring S1 back, but not until HoT is done. And they can’t simply ‘rollback’ without causing a bunch of issues.

Anyway . . . yes, after the expansion is released. At some point, the Living World continues after that. They’re going to use Living World as filler between expansions.
