Who would you invite to join Dragon's Watch?
I would send Kasmeer and Marjory home. Braham, I would have burned on a pyre for threatening everyone near Jormag’s Domain. Rox could stay and Taimi is a fairly decent researcher, but she would have to be made to understand that she is exactly that and nothing more. Then I would hire only soldiers to Dragon’s Watch. We don’t need Warriors, we need soldiers. The Pact have failed over and over again due to the unprofessional behavior of party members; The Pact is not an army at the moment— it is a rabble.
Gilded Grimoire[MAGI]. Casual Guild www.gw2magi.com
Rytlock: He (and apparently only he) can cut through vines.
Taimi: The solutions to at least half of any problems we face are going to require her so we had better have her around.
Canach: Because he amuses me and I am going to have to do all of the real work so my morale is rather important.
Rox: Because rangers have to stick together.
A dozen or so red shirts: Because every organization needs red shirts.
there’s no one NPC no one will loathe, as the saying goes, “No chef in the would can satisfy every tongue”.
And it doesn’t really matter what I want since anet doesn’t give us the choice, they just write a singular non-branching story. And that’s okay, I mean, the amount of freedom we had early in the Personal Story was awesome, but I agree I rather have the content at this pace than 1 chapter a year.
As for characters I personally would invite, propably..
Faren (what’s an army without some good cannon-fodder)
I’d much rather get rid of Dragon’s Watch altogether and go back to the Pact. Being made to drop it like a flaming kitten in a time when it most needs its Commander was a terrible move from the writers and nothing my characters would ever do … especially when the alternative is being kicked around by a bunch of “friends” who are anything but.
Ditch the wangsty NPC drama in which my character has no place and instead let me pick up the pieces of her life’s work as she would and should.
If I have to be forced into a guild because that’s the name of the game, I’d make “Dragon’s Watch” a group of proven and dedicated Pact officers and specialists who help me keep tabs on and coordinate matters.

Living Story Season 4:
Chapter one: Sitting at the desk, exploring the office.
Chapter two: There’s trouble rising in the south, better file some paperwork!
Chapter three: There’s an elder dragon out!? Better file the paperwork for a pact detachment!
Chapter 4: business meeting.
Chapter 5: appointing a new squad captain.
Chapter 6: send a detachment to Elona
Receive medals for good leadership.
good game
I would have loved for our guild (whose purpose is mainly to fight stuff) to consist of actual adults with adventuring experience like Destiny’s Edge. Instead we get children. Rytlock of course was part of Destiny’s Edge so he is automatically qualified. Some might not like Marjory and Kasmeer but they, Canach, and Rox are at least adults who have proven that they have skills.
No children.
I wanted a band of heroes that were blatant imposter rip-offs of existing heroes.
Like Rytlord Boomstick and Taimex. They’d look very similar to who they were patterned after but have some obnoxious caricature look to them. Like Taimex would have MASSIVE ears and a hair bow. Just massive.
The infamous Sharky Longears and his golem THUNDERNATION!
The infamous Sharky Longears and his golem THUNDERNATION!
I had to look that up because I assumed you made that up… but then I realized who it was and remembered that fight!
Dougal Keane
Kilroy Stonekin too if he hadn’t passed away
It is kind of hard to select someone that is significant in some way that is not already a member of something with heavy responsibility/obligations.
I guess I would invite Lord Faren since he isn’t a member of anything atm.
The infamous Sharky Longears and his golem THUNDERNATION!
I wish I could upvote this more than once.
Balthazar, of course. But on a one condition: no flaming dogs in our office.
I want Galina Edgecrusher and Snarl Backdraft back.
I would try to poach Laranthir away from the pact. The guy gets results, knows how to make hard decisions and kept up the good fight even when non sylvari distrusted him in Maguuma.
Rytlock, Rox, and Taimi get re-invited. I don’t think I need to explain why, we all know them.
Lord Faren: I’m pretty sure he’s only playing the part of the clueless noble. You try wandering through VB in your underwear and see how long you last. He’s far more skilled than he lets on.
Riot Alice: In the human street rat storyline, you advise her to get out of the gang, and later she thanks you and tells you she’s taking your advice. But… you were under Countess Anise’s illusion when you gave her that advice, and she actually started to see through it. Later, she must have realized what she was really seeing, if she knew it was you. No training, and she sees through the Countess’s illusions? With skill like that and a good rifle, we need her on our side.
I’m sure there are plenty of other characters I’d love to invite, but I’m having a hard time thinking of some that are not part of the Pact or Orders (prior commitment), or possibly dead depending on the paths of the personal story.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Blaine, lord of the Well, would be guild secretary; handling all communication through his well-rat-mail-service.
Clearly we need quaggans.
In addition to what I posted above, I want to recruit about a dozen skritt to work with Taimi. She seems open to new and possibly terrifying ideas, as long as they get results, and their way of thinking is different enough from hers that they might think of things she’d miss.
I also want to recruit the Windmill King, but NOT to work with Taimi. I just like the poor guy.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Jokes aside, I would like to see councillor Phlunt and Canach in the team. They are both pure awesome. And Phlunt can overseer Taimi and smack her head every time she becomes too mary-sueish. Some norn character would be great too. Braham is not joining us (and thats for good), so we need someone to represent norn. Maybe someone blessed by a raven for a diversity of sorts, not a usual mountain of brainless muscles.
Maybe someone blessed by a raven for a diversity of sorts, not a usual mountain of brainless muscles.
It’s funny cause we’ve seen (or read) about Eir lifting boulders, and we have seen Braham crush solid walls of ice with a mace-smack… but Braham is literally the weakest-hitting member of the team. Anyway!
If I had to retain the guild, I’d ditch the name first and foremost. While it’s nice to have a double meaning, I’d rather not have it be so focused on just the dragons.
Secondly, I wouldn’t invite any of the current Destiny’s Wannabees. Marjory and Kasmeer can go back to solving crime, Taimi can go back to school, Canach… can bomb something, idk, and Braham can go and freeze in a lake. And Rox can be ignored, as she has been for the past season.
Then I would invite Laranthir, as previously mentioned: he’s excellent at getting results.
It’d be followed by M.O.X., because you know Zinn would’ve designed him to be awesome 250 years later, and preferably a Norn shaman: I am not sure if Valda or Weibe would be able to join, but either one maybe (plus I am really interested in the Norn shamanism aspect). Then I would actually invite Valette Wi, the former aide of Caudecaus: insane, I know, but it’d start off as her repayment to Kryta, and evolve into her finding her calling and maturing.
Finally, I think an asura would be fitting, but I can’t think of one right now.
If I don’t have to retain a guild, I’d go back to being the Commander of the Pact: we took down Zhaitan and united the people of Tyria. It was awesome.
It’s simple. I’d appoint my warband. Y’know, the one I haven’t seen since Level 20?
Sure, we’d take cues from Taimi’s research, but the dysfunctional couple, active threat to dragon magic overload, and snarky the cactus can stay home. At least Rytlock was loyal to the cause, before he got dragged home. I’d invite him back after he’s stripped of Legion rank.
I guess if I need a ‘diverse’ roster, we can add Riot Alice, Tegwyn (I’ll call her Twiggy), and …hey, ANet, we need a new Norn that isn’t a ponce! Give us one.

We need an older norn, one that’s more secure in their legend. Or one that’s willing to see the guild as their legend. Someone willing and able to dispense some grandfatherly (or grandmotherly) advice, who can spend their down time fixing up whatever hovel we scrape together for our guild hall.
Actually… yeah. An older norn caretaker for our guild hall. They can do some repairs, maybe grow a garden, and be our support. The Alfred Pennyworth to our Batman, if you will. And we could move Zojja there, where her friends can visit her while she recovers in a more relaxing setting. It would make for a good excuse for people to stop by the hall to see us and her, making it a great setting for some of the story segments.
(I DO want to see Zojja get better. And her injuries would make an easy excuse to have her voice sound a bit different, so that problem can be gotten rid of finally.)
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Great thread idea!
I’d invite:
-Professor Gorr from the personal story to handle research/development.
-Galina and Snarl, also from the personal story, who were hilarious and kicked a**.
-Malyck, who if it were up to my character, would’ve been FOUND during the HoT storyline – I would’ve torn up every leaf in that jungle looking for him.
-Canach – I love his snarky humor and he’s also a great fighter.
-Countess Anise for OP mesmer power without Kas’s whiny quality.
-For some Norn representation, Fibharr Ygosson from the personal story since I can’t bring Forgal back from the dead…
-Of the current members, I’d keep Rytlock and Rox for sure, and would consider Taimi if she was a little less of a constant presence, and more of an assistant to Gorr. I like Taimi, but it’s been a bit overkill on her in nearly every story step lately.
Dragons Watch would be going through some restructuring. Kasmeer is flat out. Marjory can go with her. Braham is out. Rox can go too. Here’s my new team. Keep in mind that I’m not using people who already said no, so I can’t have Logan or Canach even though I’d want them both.
Taimi — I’m down in the caldera of an active volcano with the god of war and the elder dragon of fire. Who’s with me? The crippled asuran teenager. She’s been actively working toward the group’s goals since its formation. She is staying, is getting a raise and will now be my second in command. Members will address her as Lieutenant Taimi, or ma’am if you’re into the brevity thing.
Rytlock Brimstone — Legal troubles aside, Rytlock is invaluable in the field. He is experienced and likes to fight. He also tolerates no nonsense. That’s a guy I want at my back.
Lord Faren — Our time in Tyria has demonstrated two things about Faren — that he never, ever surrenders and that he is entirely undaunted by any challenge, regardless of his ability to overcome it. Faren is not going to run, is not going to feel sorry for himself and is not going to balk in the face of adversity. What he lacks in aptitude he makes up for in loyalty.
Deputy Mira — Mira has seen some stuff. She took the worst that the undead could give her and got back up again. That’s the kind of person I want on the team.
Snarl Backdraft and Galina Edgecrusher — Relationships in the guild can work if you’ve got stable, sensible people. Snarl and Galina have also demonstrated their ability to overcome long odds while being humorous and fun. A guild needs that sort of levity at the right time.
Living Story Season 4:
Paperwork is the Marshal’s job. No one with sense would make the Commander a paper pusher — which is part of General Almorra felt so OOC in Ep1. She’s a charr, a veteran, a leader, if anyone knows better than to try forcing a round peg into a square hole, it’s her.
Plus, even if it was true, I don’t see how a paperwork is worse for a story than combat. I do want more meetings and research and discovery and negotiation and, well, story. There’s plenty of combat outside the story as it is, it doesn’t need to dominate there too.
Anyway, add another vote for Laranthir. He was #1 on my mind, too. And I’m also very much in favor of the suggestion of an older, wiser, Raven-following norn shaman. I’d keep Caithe and Rytlock, and probably take Canach once he’s had his breath of freedom … though he could have been a bit more polite about phrasing his desire for it.

I would invite:
Laranthir
Rythlock
Kasmeer&Marjory
Taimi
Canach (work him over a bit)
Valette
Gullik Oddson
Rox
Phlunt (to keep Taimi in check).
Mira
I would also mail Braham and ask him to never ever get close again.
I like some of the suggestions I see here. I’d certainly want Snarl & Galina, Laranthir, Prof. Gorr, Barron & Fero, Mira and Carys to be part of the gang. Then I’d want Rytlock and Taimi for sure and Canach, if he could be persuaded to stick around. For eye candy and my amusement, Faren is a must (I also think there’s more to him than he lets on). I’d like to think this bunch would get things done and be rather entertaining whilst at it.
I don’t have any norn I’d add: the ones I’d want already expired. :/
I honestly wouldnt mind asking Hero-Tron to join my guild, the morale would improve 100%
Professor Gorr, as an Asura this would be awesome.
Rytlock, Rox, Taimi, Jory and Kas are good as members.
Malyck as a long lost relative of the sylvari

I don’t have any norn I’d add: the ones I’d want already expired. :/
Norn die a lot in the PS, don’t they? Not that there are many to begin with. Wynnet Fairhaired of the Priory is the only one I recall who makes it all the way, norn-specific story arcs excluded.
Speaking of norn story arcs, I also have a bit of a soft spot for Margonel and Ballista from the Gear warband ever since playing through the “got drunk at the moot” chapter. :p But they are in a warband, so they’re probably out. Sadly it’s really the only time we see a warband as such, instead of individual charr who may as well be gladium.
Riot Alice
Because she is my best friend ever and I hope she’s doing OK. If you don’t know Riot Alice, I implore you to go do the human streetrat story so you too can become best friends with her.
Agent Zrii or whatever the whispers Asura is named.
I remember her being a blast to hang out with, and not using technobabble for literally everything.
Evon Gnashblade
We’re going to need a money guy, and I feel like he’s about due a conviction for something that results in a community service sentance. I like the idea of Evon being forced to be there and us holding him to his obligations through financial threat. The “I will die for my fortune” approach to this guy would be pretty great.
Canach
Canach gets kitten done, and as Commander we have a long and complicated personal history with him, having been both enemies and allies. His voice actor is also fantastic.
One of those misbehaving Norn kids from the heart where you throw snowballs at them because they JUST WON’T LEAVE DAD ALONE.
We need a precocious youth to sneak in to small spaces and occasionally get kidnapped, and I’d prefer it be a legitimately horrible child that is in no way grateful, admiring, or even likable. I also think the potential for Norn Dad jokes and having Norn Dad tell us how the horrible things we put this child through are “Building his Legend” is a hilariously Norn world view. Let’s call this kid Bjargle and make him important to have in the guild because we’re doing a favor for his dad.
My Dragon’s watch will solve problems through ingenuity, bribery, violence, and comical luck, because it’s more entertaining than throwaway romances, research, and OMG MORE DEAD PARENTS.

Or maybe “Evon Gnashblade”. Y’know, the one who lives under a bridge somewhere in Lion’s Arch?
Assuming we don’t get to keep Rytlock. Sure his story got passed over in “Later, cub,” but he’s always been a decent soldier to have around.

Except you know voice direction would screw it up and pronounce it [bu-JAR-gul]. I’d die inside every time.
