Immersion wise those were always good to have. To learn more about characters around you for instance. Tho in this storyline, once everyone is done talking, you cannot interact with any NPC around anymore.

Some lines about Rytlock and how he came back as a revenant would have been nice. Instead he keeps saying : later.. and later nothing happens.

Some people in the forums feel the story is rushed also because there is a huge lack of character development, which could have been solved using simple ambiant dialogues like it was done before.
In the end it gives a sense of emptyness.
I guess they wanted to develop Braham and Canach more than the others in this storyline, but honestly, we didnt learn that much, other than canach hearing mordremoth voice every 2 minutes and braham coming back bald because he lost his mother….
well.. nothing fancy here.

Some characters were just absent.

Rox, had maybe 10 lines total in the entire story, and most of it was asking Rytlock the same question over and over again.

Kasmeer, if she wouldn’t have been there, it wouldn’t have matter anyway: “yes commander” is all she says.

Marjory, who was kinda mainstream in LS2, with her sister death, training to avenge her… we don’t even have the choice to get her into the fight with mordremoth in the end.

Caithe comes back to say two sentences, which didn’t make much sense btw, but everyone accepted it as universal truth.
And the egg, well we have been chasing it for a while but we still don’t know wtf it is for real.

All those things could have been solved easily, given, they at least allowed players to speak with their companions during the journey.

Yeah, the lack of dialogue box talking was an oddity to me. I think S2 shared this aspect for some story steps – but not all.

I really liked it in the PS, though it makes documenting the wiki a pain (primarily due to the lack of repeating in the PS).

I think you really missed on stuff for Caithe, because it’s more than two sentences and does make sense even if it’s a very terrible explanation and no one was happy with her.

As for the egg, it’s pretty clear that the story for Glint’s legacy is far from over. While not explained in the actual story it is indicated through the open world of Auric Basin – primarily the achievement A Study in Gold, which lets you get the brand new bloodstone dust eater (I am loving the lore scavenger hunt achievements in the HoT maps – the whole two of them, it sadly seems – FAR better than the legendary collections that’s for sure).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

About caithe, what i meant really is :
She gets caught, she gave very little explaination (if any), and a bad one.. i was expecting everybody to have some kinda of fight with her. In the end she kinda gets away with it and is given a simple warning?

Anyway, i’m just sad characters seemed to have no depth at all in the PS… some side dialogues would have make the whole story far more interesting. Other than fighting, it felt like i’m watching some movie. It’s a game, we should be able to interact with everything and everyone around a lot more.

I still want to throw Caithe off a cliff.

Her dialogue that was given did nothing to affect how i felt about her. Of course i havent liked Caithe since i played through on my Sylvari and she stabbed that nightmare court person i said could go. Can i trade her for Traehearne?

I am however glad to see Canach being treated like a “Human” being for once its a great thing!

I would have loved to have some more background dialogue though that you could trigger by talking to them!

I found it odd that our Char who was hostile towards Canach ( what was understandable and not forced ) and went to " Glad to have you here" in just a short Time. I can understand that we aren’t hostile towards him anymore and even considering him as a Friend at the End. But at the Beginning of HoT? Not even the slightest Mistrust?

The behavior towards Caithe was much better and given the Dialogue I’m having the Feeling that we can count one more to our " Firstborn Killed" Statistic in the Future

I dont know, as a roleplayer, i was completely annoyed at how my character was treating Canach, someone shed /never/ met before. She wasnt there for the events of LS1, Hell she didnt even exist when that happened, so she has /no/ clue who he is, and ANET should have made it seem that way, if your character took part(You have LS1, the chapter with Canach on your historical section since they dont have it in game yet as a story mission) then your character reacts negatively towards him when they meet, if you dont, shes neutral. Two different dialogue options would play out as well. Afterall why be rude to someone you just met? I know for game play purposes they simplified it, but when i first played through it(back before they added in the LS1 recap) it caused me alot of confusion.

Im hoping we get to add to that statistic too, though, id rather not just kill her for no reason, she has one more chance to prove shes trustworthy to me, and so far shes failing hard. Three strikes and all that…

I hope we don’t kill Caithe (I must be one of the few who really like her I suppose). I don’t think her actions justify it or even threatening to kill her like my PC does in HoT. It’s not like she ever tried to kill or harm the PC. She felt like she was doing the right thing and her actions actually saved the Commander and Crew since they would have been on the ship with Trehearne.

I wish we could have asked her more about what she felt was her Wyld Hunt and where she was taking the egg. The extra dialog options the OP discusses could have helped here. I do also miss those.

On this point, all the voiced interactive dialogue is also written in grey text in the chat box. You can screenshot that. Just watch out for the odd line or two that doesn’t get put in text or is voiced in a slightly different version.

The entire Caithe thing is just silly. She apparently got another Wyld Hunt that the Pale Tree didn’t know about, and she refused to tell us for no good reason.

Wyld Hunts come from the Dream itself not the Pale Tree. The Pale Tree seems to help interpret them though.

I wouldn’t say there’s no reason she didn’t explain this during LW S2 when Caithe first took the egg. It could be a combination of her personality (loner type that doesn’t trust others easily) and a combination of the strong urges (from the Wyld Hunt) that something must be done right now with the egg to get it to safety (and it was still in danger at the time, surrounded by mordrem). The PC does pretty much this exact same thing in the HoT storyline, even telling Ruka they don’t trust anyone else with the egg.

I feel like it’s a flimsy excuse though. A few of the story instances in S2 make a big deal on why she is doing this, turns out “oh j/k lol my Wyld Hunt”. Like, they should have delved deeper into that.

Her weapons are taken away and she’s forced to follow you, deep into Mordremoth’s territory, weaponless – effectively defenseless.

We give her weapons back only because of Faolain, with a very, very stern warning (certainly sounded extremely stern – as in a “you twitch wrongly and I will end you” stern – when on my male charr).

Granted, her explanation was pathetic and makes it obvious that she was nothing more than a mcguffin (it wasn’t the egg that was the mcguffin) to show players Caithe’s past and the reveal in S2, as well as keep the PC away from the Pact Fleet’s launch and demise.

-snip-

As of Season 2, the developers wrote the story as if your character had completed the PS and Season 1.

So yes, your character had met Canach before S2… but you, the player, didn’t.

Mind you, the over rudeness was off-putting to a lot of players. And personally the sudden niceness and agreeing that is shown in HoT is offputting because it’s practically a 180 on how the PC treated Canach – no development or transition.

I really liked it in the PS, though it makes documenting the wiki a pain (primarily due to the lack of repeating in the PS).

I am fully aware, tyvm.

I’m talking about the boxes that pop up when you interact with an NPC – they weren’t there at all in HoT, and in the PS they change occasionally based on your story step’s objective and location. Combine all the variations of the dialogue (some changed based on past decisions) and no way to see it after the fact with how the PS was not repeatable, and it makes it hell to document.

S2 and HoT are repeatable however, so that issue disappears.

I agree, I really miss the ambient dialogue. It’s a frustration that – whilst small – keeps popping up time and time and time again. Both within the story instances, and out in the world in general now too.

The Story in HoT on the whole feels a little unpolished and rushed compared to what we’ve come to expect in the past. I hope they get inspired in the future to return to delivering great content.
