Guild Wars 2

I noticed when completing the map that there are alot of areas that we are not able to go to. i hope if they create an expasion they extend the map more that would be cool

From what i know they are still debating if they want to do a payed expansion (1 huge pack of content) or introduce stuff for free through LS (but low amounts over time).

All options are on the table. No news on major stuff for now tho.

I wont pay for an expansion, so i choose the free LS. In addition is nice to have new content (even if is small) each 2 weeks or so.

i just wish there was a replay option for new players, not cool having to miss whats been going on just because im new

I Would prefer an expansion over a LS. living stories are good for the varying gamaeplay, but because they’re free there’s less time and effort put into them. I’d rather pay for something good than 10 kitten things

An expansion without costs will start soon with Living World Season 2. An expansion with costs we will see maybe in 12 months I guess.

i like the living story idea, season one was a bit naff though, i’ll be optimistic and say that because it was the first season, they were learning how to and how not to do it, season 2 SHOULD be better :P

but if they said ’we’re bringing out a new continent in a large, paid expansion’ i will probably pay for it, depending on the price of course :P

i would much rather see a new expansion going into the rest of Tyria, or Cantha or Elona than more LS. i like LS, but it’s temporary, and is jsut a grind fest to get the achievement points/skins/minis from that specific LS. my wife and i will both be buying whatever expansion ANET throws our way

Season1 was mainly temporary. Season 2 will be mainly permanent as a developer assured today .

Say, with China they got more money to work on the game.
Does this mean they can increase their taskforce and keep u the Living Story while a second party creates an expension?

NCSoft west and east are relatively separate and Arenanet still get to work with most of the money that is earned off THEIR game…

Depends on the % NCosft gets..and from a very old article i can’t find i remember reading they take a huge amount..more then 50%?! The article poped up in the first months of the game so it’s kinda hard to get to it again.

Also….it’s not “their” game….remember the hole in divinities reach which was replaced with the queen pavilion? U know what was instead of that hole before the release? It was a kantha themed side of the town. It was later revealed that the only reason they took it out and might never see kantha ever in GW2 is because some guy at NCSoft said so.

So yes…it’s anet’s game persay but honestly NCSoft pulls the strings if they can influence the content and design even of the western version game….and that shows u how much of the % they have on this game.

Actually I think what was said is that it was shown to test audiences and wasn’t received positively. People have warped the rumour to ‘one guy at NCsoft said…’

In one of the first Cantha threads created on the forums i remember an anet post kinda supporting that conspiracy theory also sadly. That guy fron ncsoft was a top guy there until he left. They didn’t want Cantha for cultural reasons.

People have this false impression that the Living World is supposed to worse in quality than an expansion. :/

How is it not? It’s temporary…and brings only 1-2 events that u mainly finish in a day if u reaaaaaally take your time doing them.

A proper mmo expansion (atleast in the experience of other mmos) unlocks not 1 but a lot more zones..unlocks a ton of quests..a ton of new items so on and so forth…. races..classes..weapon types..etc. LS just unlocks 1 quest/story /month.

So what’s false about it? It would only be false if u never played an mmo long enough to get to experience what a true expansion means…and i am not talking only about a p2p mmo like WoW. I am talking even about the “chinese grinding mmos” which are f2p with cashshop

They will most likely stick to the LS and open up those areas. The new dragon for example really has to come from somewhere currently off-map.

As for Ncsoft, of course they take a cut. But no one, litterally no one, is stupid enough to remove an entire culture from a game that relies heavily on said culture.
Cantha was a major part of GW1 and as such i seriously doubt it will just be “removed”.

So far it was removed for that very reason (confirmed by dev on forums an year ago or so)…and it was there before release…so the “stupidity” as u call it, already took place. As for when and if they will ever introduce Cantha to fix that stupidity..nobody knows.

@Rebound: Lol, I get what you mean, but let’s assume ANet put a little more quality and thought (for all those diehard ANet supporters out there, hold your horses for a moment) into each Living World release, gave themselves a little bit more time to craft a stunning storyline and finally return with a really rockin’ release, wouldn’t that be even more fantastic?

As another example, just imagine ANet blindly listens to its community and comes up with a mediocre, rushed-out, paid-for expansion, with terrible storylines and clunky skill mechanics, can you imagine the number of people who’d go crazy?

I realize I might be arguing about semantics here, but I just wanted to point out that the problem is not about whether an expansion or the Living World is better, but really that the quality of each release should be a lot better than it is now.

And for the diehard ANet fans, I’d like to say that ArenaNet has proven in the past that it has been able to come up with some truly stellar releases. What ANet really needs is to give to give its staff a little bit of a breather (maybe take a nice vacation) by extending the amount of time between LW releases. This helps give staff more time to produce awesome quality work and players time to regain their work/gaming/life balance.
