“Fear not this Night” is the song who is played in the special occasions in the story. It always gives me chills.

It is supposed to be Sylvari theme but I am really worried it will no longer be played in any other LS or PoF.

When I heard Sylvari plot won’t be continued I felt really sad… We have Caithe in LS3 but it is weird to hear about everything from her, not from entire Race. Also meeting with the Pale Tree was a bit disappointing. We heard there are newly awakened Sylvari. But we did not get any news how they look, what are their calls after Mordremoth’s death, also what’s about Nightmare Court.. Anet is not about to give any answer when the god returned and it seems the story will be all about him.

It is not about HoT story but some kind of aftermaths of Mordremoth’s death and what his death has caused as I said before.

I also feel bad that the last Firstborn with such an influence is treated as trash by everybody.

After watching the trailer for One Path Ends and seeing some Sylvari I hoped it’d be a grand coming back to some Sylvari matters, but it turned out that we also treated them all as nothing, some talks about Orr and bye.

It seems Anet will never come back to Sylvari topic, never hear Fear not this Night anymore… After seeing how Caithe is treated and other Sylvari too I am afraid we won’t ever get any answers for the important questions. I guess we will meet 3rd generation Sylvari who will appear out of nowhere and maybe she/he will say something to us, but I doubt it.

But ok I really hope Fear not this Night will be played in PoF. This is my biggest hope for this expansion. Please writers, put some Sylvari topics into the story!! Please…

Let it be multi-race story, do not make the same mistake as for HoT.

There’s a lot that was left out of the sylvari arc for HoT, and we may return to some of it, but who knows how long that might take, especially as people complained about LS3 being unfocused. The main sylvari arc is done, and while they will still be involved in the various stories, there’s no telling when we’ll learn more of their situation.

As for the “3rd generation” of sylvari, I think you’re a bit confused about how that works. The first twelve are called the Firstborn, because they were the only sylvari for a few years. Then, suddenly, a bunch of new sylvari were born all at once, and they were called the Secondborn as a way of being clever, but since there were so many, they weren’t given a special title. After the secondborn emerged, the tree never stopped producing sylvari. They weren’t all secondborns, though. By the time the player character emerged from the Dream, they had stopped counting generations. Sylvari born after the dragon attack are no different from those born before it, as least as far as we’ve been told.

As you seem to have noticed, people are a bit tired of hearing about the sylvari after they got so much attention in HoT, so it might be some time before they get much focus, but even the asura got some slight story in HoT with Rata Novus, so perhaps we’ll see them again. Just, not this expansion.

I was convinced that the Thirdborn (or whatever they are called) were born just after Mordremoth’s death. So it is important to see these new Sylvari are changed by Mordremoth’s plant magic as Aurene is or they’re not.

Fear Not This Night isn’t a sylvari theme, it’s a “fighting Zhaitan” theme. Fear and darkness – two concepts that are brought up a lot in the song, as well as being across a sea iirc – is strongly played throughout the Zhaitan arc.

It wouldn’t have had any place other than during the Zhaitan arc. Which is why it was never used in Season 1, Season 2, or Heart of Thorns despite the off-and-on sylvari focus.

That said, I would love for more songs akin to Fear Not This Night, songs to play upon completion of the climax of a plot when we begin to wind things down. If we’re lucky, we’ll get an official recording for the Zephyrite song to be played with PoF.

As for the game “never returning to sylvari focus” – they did with episode 6, it just played second fiddle to the main plot (as it should). We’ve had a sylvari focus since the release of the game, even though Orr should have had a greater human focus it played too greatly to sylvari and asura (and then to charr then norn and human equally last); it is time to give the other races the spotlight (especially norn and asura, imo, as they have the least amount of historical lore to them now).

And it would make very little sense for the sylvari to have a major focus in PoF. Elona, Balthazar, Joko, and Kralkatorrik – none of them have any relation to sylvari. At best, we’ll have our usual Canach and maybe Caithe encounters (Caithe depending on Aurene’s involvement).

As for the generations – the Secondborn were only born for about a year, beginning two years after the Firstborn were (Firstborn were born in 1302 AE; Secondborn were born in 1304/1305). After that, they stopped counting generations, as Rognik said, but it wasn’t that the Pale Tree “continuously produced sylvari” since, it’s just that there weren’t year-long gaps between ‘generations’ anymore, eventually coming to the point of continuous production. If they kept counting generations, the PCs probably have been Seventhborn or something. The PC is NOT a Secondborn. When we first met Canach in Season 1, sylvari PCs made a note about him being Secondborn and thus more famous than them in sylvari society. There were only about 100 (or less) Secondborn, based on the flashbacks in Season 2 – and many died early on.

That said, the Pale Tree did stop making newborn sylvari upon the Shadow of the Dragon’s attack, and only began again after Caladbolg’s restoration. So one may classify this group as “Forthborn” if they really wanted to – with “Thirdborn” being everyone after the Secondborn until the Shadow of the Dragon’s attack (including the PC). It would be interesting to hear if there was any effect due to Mordremoth’s rise and attack, all the same. I doubt higher amount of magic would affect much since Zhaitan’s death also raised magic and didn’t seem to do anything of note to newborn sylvari.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Fear not this night is obviously Sylvari theme. It was sang from the perspective of the Pale Tree- the Mother of all Sylvari
It is about going through any difficulties, problems in Tyria and the first huge problem was Zhaitan and the role of Pale Tree to kill him was huge. This is why we heard this song/instrumental version 3 times in the last 2 missions of Personal Story.

It was also played just after breakdown of Mordremoth’s mind, when Trahearne asked us to give his Sword- the Sword who is a part of the Pale Tree.

But this song is universal for every Race. It is not, as you said “fighting Zhaitan theme”.

It was played in the times of success, it was played when all seemed good. This song should be called ’Restored Hope" it is all about hope for every Race.

This topic about Sylvari being the most important race for long is only because this Race was created only 30 years ago (something around it) so it is reasonable to put this race at the 1st place.

Were you complaining about GW1 that there was only Human as playable Race? About that only Human were defeating threads?

And GW2 was not only about Sylvari, I loved Personal Story for that it was multi-race story- your race 1st, then cooprating with Orders=other Races then facing with them to defeat Zhaitan’s minions and only in the end Trahearne played a huge role- his Wyld Hunt was to clean Orr using the Sword- Caladbolg then all the Races defeated Zhaitan together.

It was played in LS2 as the Pale Tree Chamber theme, I don’t know how in LS1 but it was played in LS2. Also during the Pale Tree vision in Dragon’s Reach part 2.

Season 3 started with Human thread and we heard Primordus has became active, also Jormag, there were no space to put FNTN in Season 3, but I hoped it could be in the last episode, sadly it was not.

I hope the Pale Tree has another advice to give, it’d be awesome she’d give us a 3rd vision. She also deserves as anyone else to see Aurene in her chamber. It’s all thanks her we knew about the Egg. This was amazing that she is like Glint, they gave as clues and helped us as they could.

But well PoF gives me hope that the Pale Tree will recover for these events to come. I’d like to hear her song once more.

Sadly it was not. If we would then I would surely know about it

I do like that tune, but I also would agree that the song is 100% a Sylvari song. Except for moments during the Personal Story, you only ever hear it in the world while in The Grove and no where else. Which makes the focus of the Personal Story feel a little bit odd, and the fact that we don’t hear it again as part of a story element sad.
