Q:
Hi. The title may sound a bit confusing but it’s about some mechanics typical for wvw.
I was thinking on all those dynamic events in late maps like Straits of Dev, Malchor’s Leap and Cursed Shore. Most of them are boring because, well…. there are no insteresting mechanics there. They are just plain simple. You rush forward and kill mobs and that’s it. But there are some, like “Northern Invasion of Orr” which is great and has some potential.
WvW is fanstastic because of all those siege engines you can build and use on all those structures. Why not implement it in pve as well? A great example of this is “Group Event Sink the Ash Horizon” in which you use trebuchets and cannons to sink it while also defending them and npc (who repair them) from risen. I spent couple of hours leveling my char only this way, because this event was so much fun.
It would be so great to feel that my engineer is truly an engineer not only in wvw but in pve as well. Why not giving us an option to build a siege engine in pve?
We can buy the blueprints and materials (let’s say 60 Hard Wood Planks and 40 Iron Ingots) and baaam we got a catapult. Of course there should be a limit, otherwise the map would be all covered in trebuchets, but it’s something to think about.
You prefer to be a commander and lead a zerg? No problem.
You prefer to be a cool charr engineer (just an example, the class would not matter) and fire a barrage of stones from a distance at enemy mobs or fortifications? No problem.
In case somebody says “pve is too mobile for siege engines”, well…. after the event is done/mobs killed you destroy the siege engine and salvage some materials so you can run to the next group event and construct another catapult or w/e if there is a need for one (mobs spam or sturdy structure to destroy).
What do you guys (especially devs) think?

It would be a pretty fun idea, but how would they implement supply into pve? Would they have to add a supply camp in each map?
Perhaps instead of dropping it from your inventory it could be a pve only elite skill. However it seems like they are trying to get away from pvX only skills in GW2 so I doubt we would see this.
“We can buy the blueprints and materials (let’s say 60 Hard Wood Planks and 40 Iron Ingots)” via trading post.
Blueprints, Hard Wood Planks and Iron Ingots are cheap now. The materials could of course vary depending on the quality of a siege engine.
Someone actually made a pretty good thread about this one year ago (with some photoshopped screenshots even).
It was an amazing idea back then, and it still is. Hope this will be implemented one day. It’s supposed to be the endgame area, the final area you go to to defeat Zhaitan. It’s supposed to be special.

Thanks for the link, his idea is amazing. I didn’t know I have a kindred spirit thinking just like me. I guess we have to create more of these topics for the devs to finally see it. Like 5 more should do.
I think there may be some problems.
What about WvW buffs? Bloodlust, Bonus stack stats, specializations?
And more important, Retaliation and Confusion different versions?
It’s an interesting idea to allow PvP in PvE areas similar to other MMOs and would spice up the gameplay but…
Not in a WvW format. Not with rotating servers.
Instead, bring back some kind of “Alliances” from Guild Wars 1:

And make the battles between them. Not as huge and zergy as WvWvW because of lesser maps, but I’d find it fun.
You’re talking about pvp. We are talking about implementing SOME, not all, ideas from wvw to pve. There is no need for “WvW buffs, Bloodlust, Bonus stack stats, specializations”. Only siege engines and structures to capture like in wvw on those 3 maps.

Nobody is talking about pvp.
it’s an interesting idea for sure, it would make the use of blueprints more global and it might make places like that more active.
TWO THUMBS UP!
I think this would help to bring some life back onto the Orr-related maps (pun intended :p). Gameplay-wise, this area of the game needs more interesting mechanics so more gamers can be attracted to the area. It’s boring to go through the same “rushing forward and kill everything” scenario.
