Primordus.
Rytlock new human god of war. A charr as a human god of war… i’ll laugh to death if this happen.
Aurene, of course. She’ll devour all the human gods, as well as all the dragons.
- Sun Tzu, Art of War
Braham is an idiot, so no. Rytlock would be stupid.
If there is to be a replacement we probably haven’t met the one yet.
Since Balthazar apparently lost most of his power…he has already been replaced.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Canach or Braham of the top of my head. Maybe Logan if they kill him off.
Otherwise i’m ready for the big reveal that Kasmeer is the descendant of Kormir and thus her ability to tell when people are lying, since you know Kormir is the god of Truth and all.
Rytlock new human god of war. A charr as a human god of war… i’ll laugh to death if this happen.
I was thinking this, if it happened, just for the reactions (both in-game and out-of-game)… and I can also think of reasons why it might not be as absurd as it first appears.
I don’t think ArenaNet is likely to do anything that might result on Rytlock being too powerful to be a major character, though. He’s pretty much the game’s mascot.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Do you know guys that only Humans believe in Gods.? So I doubt a charr, norn or sylvari would be a new god
I bet Faren will be a new god of war
How about Councilor Phlunt? He could come in during the climatic moment, steal whatever Taimi’s current invention is that she concocted to handle the situation and become the God of Eternal War.
ANet may give it to you.
Do you know guys that only Humans believe in Gods.? So I doubt a charr, norn or sylvari would be a new god

Charr believe that the gods exist. They just refuse to warship them at any time.
But a charr becoming a human god is still unlikely.
Marjory becomes goddess of Tactics and Combat.

There’s no written rule stating that a human deity must be of human origin.
In fact, apart from Kormir and (probably) Grenth, we don’t know that any of them are. Balthazar and Lyssa appear human, but we know that there are other races that appear human. Dwayna, Melandru (in some depictions) and pre-fall Abaddon all have or had wings.
Raising a charr up to their ranks to replace the one who might have been the one who decided to go to war against the charr in the first place (the origins of the original charr-human conflict are… ambiguous) might well be the gods’ idea of a peace offering. It might also be a way to get the Flame Legion back into the fold – they’d have a genuine charr god of fire and war to follow.
Regarding Rytlock specifically… he’s had a journey to the Mists where he refuses to say what happened (possibly because he doesn’t expect his hierarchy to approve) and where he was, apparently, blinded (and we know at least one way that can happen). It’s possible that he’s caught the attention of the other gods and, if they are looking for a replacement for Balthazar, he might well be a candidate.
Not saying that I expect the plot to go that way, but… it wouldn’t be completely stupid, and it would certainly be less stupid than Balthazar being turned into a throw-away boss.

Maybe this is the reason Balthazar is weakened. Just a random thought on this… What if there was not a battle between gods, but a battle between a God and a replacement for future purposes… if you know what i mean …

If you bring up “Being Kormired” you have to explain how our characters could continue playing as gods in Tyria! We all role-play as employees of Arenanet? Our time spent farming for leather in Tyria is us taking a break?
Kitten! CAT! even. If you want good story, don’t ask story tellers to deliver the impossible or ridiculous. If divine, dragon, or kitten magic must find a new home, it shouldn’t be with our characters. My guess, there will be a general reshuffling of magic, a new way to process magic that doesn’t involve dragons causing cataclysms, with Aurene as a catalyst.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Version 1: A great amount of magical energy is stored within the character, but it’s far too much for them to access safely. Instead, they form a “seal” on it, becoming a sort of living bloodstone. This gives us time to deal with the magic safely and leaves the player character more or less mortal, while still putting the power into them. It would also draw threats to them, as any other would-be gods or Elder Dragons try to kill them to get at the power.
Version 2: We don’t keep the power, we spread it out across the known world. Maybe even across all of Tyria. Everybody Ascends, and everybody is just one small step closer to godhood rather than just one person jumping straight to the end. This also opens us up to taking a few more steps along that path, knowing that we’ll never have to worry about reaching the end by the time GW2 ends.

Oh, everyone hates mary sues, but if it’s your character that gets to be a god, then it’s all fine?
Version 1 is basically ‘you have the power of a god but you don’t get to do anything with it’. Which is about as pointless as being the marshal of a military organisation without having the ability to decide where the troops go (because that would be a strategy game, rather than an MMO). Cough. Cough.
Admittedly, it would explain why the PC somehow never dies regardless of what happens to them, but having an NPC have the power and actually be able to use it gives the story more places to go (and remember, when Nightfall was made, they were intending to go to Campaign 4, not to switch tracks and start working towards GW2).
Version 2 is still not making the PC a god, it’s just, well, distributing the power so thinly it’s almost meaningless rather than concentrating it into one personality.
There are some things which, in an MMO, it’s genuinely better to hand it to the NPCs.

I should have been more explicit and asked asked for compelling ways for our characters to continue in Tyria as gods. (Please accept this as a jest made possible by your signature.)
Version 1 is a stalling tactic, we are still left with either our characters dramatically increasing in power or finding someway to be rid of that power.
A version of Version 2 wouldn’t be terrible. But, imo, it isn’t very interesting, it doesn’t make Tyria a more interesting more diverse place. It just makes everything a little ‘more’.

Pretty much, sadly. :\

Compelling? It’s a bit far into the story to start to ask for that level of writing, isn’t it?
Still, I guess that if we get the power of a god, we could always make GW1 players happy by going off to beat up Kormir before a plot reset of some kind.

If we get to nominate the next god of war I’m choosing Canach.
Could go horribly wrong, or horribly right. Exactly what you’d want from the Tyrian Ares.
Maybe the Player will end up absorbing the power of the Dragons and that will segway into the new stones customization thing that was leaked for the next expansion. Where you infuse stones of Jormag or Primordous or Etc into yourself for different bonuses depending on the combinations you pick.

I would be satisfied with that. Just imagine the level of snark he would have if he were a deity.

Why doesn’t Kormir receiving Abaddon’s magic not work for an mmo? The only way I can see that being true is if mmo’s must put aggrandizing the PC above everything else.

Oh my gosh! I was thinking this since the first ep 5 launch.
I think we’re gonna have a stand off against Balthy with Destiny’s Edge 2.0. And when he’s dying, getting wrecked by the commander, Kasmeer be like interrupting and make speech about what being a god should mean and eventually kill steal from us and ascend as the Goddess of Peace or sumthin -_-
EDIT: I think it’s gonna be Kasmeer since she’s like the most religious in the group, given there are only two human in your group (three if you play human)

Yea, that’s all we need. A flabberjawed blondie and God of Peace with a dysfunctional relationship. If we’re ‘lucky’ Kasmeer and Marjory will both die in a waypoint accident and we will never have to hear about/of either of them again.
You think you can replace Balthazar? Finder of Wisdom? The Scourge of the Prideful? No, there is no replacement for Balthazar, may he live forever. If the writers at ArenaNet can’t replace his Odin like reputation by the next expansion then it’s just a prime example of poor writing if there ever was any. Feel the Flames of Balthazar; Bask in the ever-presence of his glory!
“As he lay there dying amongst the other fallen, Shinza Zu Heltzer could feel the cold fingers of Grenth creeping through and around his body. The pain from the Tengu spear jutting from his stomach was intense as his refugee caravan burned behind him. Yet, for the sacrifice of his fellow warriors and against such treachery against the realm of man, Shinza knew that his Gods would anger. He steadied the spear inside him and propped himself up on a kneel as the Angchu Warrior readied his sword. Shinza swore at the beast. Spit out his hatred for the broken treaties, his hatred for those fools in Kaineng City for agreeing to terms that the disloyal Angchu would never uphold. He screamed in defiance and plead to his Gods for help. As he glanced to the side and saw the gate of Kaineng open to the civilians that he escorted atleast this far, winning skirmish after skirmish as his own company of warriors dwindled in numbers, he knew that his duty was over and like any good Kurzick, this Tengu beast would know the taste of Canthan Steel. Shinza stood and the pain of a thousand daggers washed through him, the grasp of Grenth was pushed away as fire flowed through his veins. The pain dulled to nothing as Shinza placed his hand on the hilt of his claymore. The Angchu Warrior stared at Shinza and then his eyes refocused behind the Kurzick Warrior. Fear twisted the Tengu’s face and Shinza felt the heart of a blazing inferno behind him as the pain of his injuries rushed back, shocking the Kurzick warrior back to the ground. He fell backward and to his side, as he fell he rolled over and saw that for which the Angchu Warrior had feared. He That Shows Us the Final Truth, Balthazar, had responded to the Angchu betrayal against man. Fire erupted from the ground behind the Angchu ranks and cyclones of magma swept the field in reckless patterns. The Angchu warrior screamed his squawking rage at the human god and charged with his swords ready… he never reached his destination.
Balthazar, God of War, kneeled above the dying Shinza Zu Heltzer and placed his gauntleted hand upon his shoulder. He spoke sympathetic words, "Rest now my champion. You served the brotherhood of man well this day and will be rewarded with a second life. When that has past, I will remember you. You will join me in the after and feast in my halls. Live, Shinza Zu Heltzter. "
The fire gifted by Balthazar seeped from Shinza’s body and the pain from the spear was gone. He gently guided his hand down towards the wound and found it and the spear to be gone. He glanced up, but the God of War had already vanished."

Isn’t the whole Balthazar plot about him regaining his godliness?
I think Rytlock would be pretty epic for a new God though ;-)
-snip snip-
Ya, but now he tryna destroy Tyria just to regain his balls
I would go as low as Phlunt as a human god if that means solving the problem. Just make him ripped to make a convincing, worshipable, god figure lol. A powerful god-like entity that tries to wipe out civilizations, including their worshippers, to pursue self-interest is just annoying -_-
Tyria must come first, soz not soz.
I know I am a little behind, but I just finished episode 2 of LS3, Old Foes, Old Ghosts. With Balthazar returned now, does anyone else think we will see some iteration of FoW implemented? I think it could bring some interesting and fun group content.

I’m gonna go with E
I find it stupid how suddenly Braham wants to avenge the mother he barely cared to mention before. So, a death made him rethink? I feel like he’s just trying to make a legend for himself- It’s not about his mother dying & it never was. Otherwise, He is actually THAT poorly written.

I noticed
By getting Kormired you mean someone else getting stuck with the obnoxious relegation to godhood, right?
If so, then I hope so. It would be awful for us to get stuck with that lemon.
Nobody would have complained if it had been Koss the Boss Hoss who became the new god.
Eh, not really feeling the whole “God” thing. Dragons yeah, but human Gods, then you have all these other races with no gods, just doesn’t add up imo. Asura, Charr, Sylvari, Norn don’t worship human gods. So throwing it into the mix now is just a tad bit of overkill imo. I am sure the Charr are going to be like “Oh THIS is the idiot that wanted us to be terminated? Yeah….not our problem”

I think it’s more that nobody liked Kormir and she was considered worthless, at best. Less than useless, really. The power went to someone that didn’t deserve it.
Let’s look at the current story line and ask ourselves who would be worthy of getting Balthazar’s power.
Braham? Well, he’s being violent and has a flaming bow, but he’s also acting like a brat and is likely going to get a lot of good people killed. He’s not worthy.
Caithe? Some people think she should be forgiven and others think she should be shot dead and left in a ditch somewhere. Opinions vary widely enough that she might not be a good choice.
Marjory? Well, it would be an odd match for her current class, but she does go into battle swinging a huge sword (imbued with the spirit of her sister), and she does try to think things through. She may not always listen to us, but she does at least try to be loyal in her own way. Worthy enough, I guess?
Kasmeer? Her reaction when Balthazar was revealed makes it clear that she can’t handle the whole issue, and would crack under the strain. Unworthy.
Rytlock? It would be funny to see a charr replace one of the human gods, but he’s the one that has the training and skills that would make him a good God of War. And with a name like “Brimstone”, a good God of Fire, as well. He’s been hiding a secret about his time in the mists, we’ll need to know more about that before we can say if he’s been right to hide it or not. Still, I think he would be worthy.
Rox? Well, she’s loyal and does a good job of pulling her own weight usually. But she’s also very kindhearted and afraid of losing her “family” again. Worthy, but it would be really bad writing to dump that role onto her.
Taimi? Love her dearly, but she would blow up the world trying to find out what she could do with her power. Too curious for her own good, but she is still pretty young. As much as I may like her, I think she’s unworthy.
Canach? Now here we have someone that would make a good God of War. Snarky, smart, and fairly honest with us, he’s been a good companion whenever we’ve worked with him. That doesn’t mean he can’t think underhanded, though. To him, battles are meant to be won, honorably or not. Worthy.
If we were to “get Kormired again”, it would likely be by the power being passed on to the most unworthy of the group, most likely Braham. Or maybe some side character that we barely know could step forward after we’ve won, and be awarded the power for no reason we can see. If the power went to a likable character that has earned a shot at it, I don’t think anyone reasonable would really mind.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Balthazar won’t be overthrown, it would be the worst decision that Arenanet ever made, right up there with making Charr a playable race over Skritt. People that are okay with Balthazar losing his powers, are straight out ignoring his role in the games’ lore. Plus the entire downplaying of the Gods’ powers is just laughable. Did Balthazar look like he was afraid of Primordius in the current episode? Absolutely not, he was using the Elder Dragons like a Circus Performer uses a Tiger/Elephant.
Alas, I prefer the theory that Kormir was chosen due to her proximity to Abbadon and her exposure to his Divine Magic from the start of the Nightfall story. She inadvertently prepped herself to be a vessel via her contact.
