final boss fight too much
True. One of the main reasons i still play gw2 is because of the dress up factor. But thats still a secondary feature. Gameplay, challenge and longevity are whats most important any game which isnt a pure dress up game.
The fact is that anet are wasting their combat system by keeping the game purely casual. Its honestly one of the best combat and build systems ive experienced. Such a shame.
Solod it first time on Stalker/Wolf LB ranger. Downed once, ressed, did the job.
Died once on Warrior because I dodge rolled out of the chamber.
It was a challenge, but really fun. Protip: always leave one dodge roll in hand for the large AoE and run out of the rest of the AoEs.
I have to say that I found the boss fight a lot of fun- it was well thought out with different things going on at once (especially challenge mode) but not too challenging.
Personally, I think the difficulty was perfect, harder than what we were used to, but nowhere near liadri level (I didn’t enjoy the endless amount of tries it took me to kill her finally) I died once using a condition warrior build on this fight so if more boss fights on this level are added, it would make it a brilliant season for me.
I also have to say the boss fights in general are better designed now, I mean the statue and the mordrem thrasher at fort salma were both more than just hit the boss until it dies.
PvE- Grolex (Warrior)
PvP rank: 20 Rating: 1864 (season 7)
I made the mistake to do play the whole season 2 (not season 1, I missed that one) as engineer. The last fight in retrospect wasn’t really hard even though I kept dieing mostly to jumping off the ledge or getting thrown down by these stupid tentacles and the other times simply because after a long time at work your concentration levels are tanking in those fights. It was excruciatingly slow and repetitive like the other fights. Seems telegraphed dodge hell is the new bullet hell. As a general thing I have learned for these last boss fights: bring lots of time and patience, and a repair canister.
Otherwise it’s entirely doable! Remember: You don’t have to really like these solo fights, you only have to remain calm and stubborn enough to finish them.
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.
I died over 14 times on the fight (I didn’t count). My entire set of armor was destroyed. I didn’t find it too difficult. It’s a mid-season finale boss fight. Then I put on my clerics set of armor to talk with the leaders and companions XD
And honestly, those craving difficult content deserve a bone thrown to them just as much as those looking for easy face roll content.
The fight was doable solo on a glass cannon build even if you aren’t perfect. It will take dying a lot but it is doable.
So I finally got round to doing this LS, and didn’t even die on the final fight.
How can people even die on such an easy fight, let alone until all armour is broken?

Well, as for me, I was trying to give that dragon minion a fighting chance, see. I didn’t want him to be discouraged and go flying back to his master with his tail tucked between his legs, because that might have made Mordy think ‘Hmm, maybe this isn’t such a good idea after all; maybe I should just go back to bed,’ which would have ruined the rest of LS2 for everybody. So, you’re welcome. I guess.

Well, you are certainly a talented person then with good reaction skills, a top-notch spatial awareness and alert mind. But you are also a person which is familiar with current game and class mechanics and your own signatures links to boss solos so it’s your forte to solo things. It used to be mine too and I am sure with a lot of dedication I could get back to it. Hence why I especially noted it’s not hard.
It also kind of hinted why I got tired of raids in MMOs having its roots in boss fight designs which seemed to be more of the same everywhere especially now that telegraphing has become a thing it seems to have become an excuse for the same “spam effect here” fad. I frankly am disappointed that fights seem to revolve around dodge-and-kill-adds/progress undoer-fast-else-your-beer-will-get-lukewarm type of fights. It’s become a predictable design pattern now that I kind of anticipate it to happen in every fight now.
I had zero problems with the boss of the last chapter, it was slow, but doable. This time I was kinda exhausted from work and not really paying attention to stuff on screen. So I died a lot. I hope this explains it. On the other hand it would not have happened if I had been playing this game actively but frankly I am too casual due to real-life now, I play this game only for this story at the moment, actually spent money for gems to unlock the last chapter since I missed it. The only thing I am wishing for is not a nerf but some more interesting mechanics.

What? This boss was easy 1/1. Quick, nerf all the things!
There is a well reasoned post from broom, who makes it clear he/she can do the mission but understands the difficulty of less competent players. the point that this is story line is well made. I have no problem with there being content I can’t play I wouldn’t attempt the challenges, I don’t attempt special events but I do expect to be able to do story line content. I am never going to be significantly better as a player. Perhaps better players dismissive of mediocre players such as myself should ask how likely it is the game would continue to be supported if large numbers of average and mediocre players who probably represent the majority of the player base took their advice and found a different game to play
You beat it no problem while others floundered and found it difficult / challenging, well done! What more do you want a gold star? a noddy badge? Honestly I have no problem with those that found it easy, I myself finished it without too much trouble, but I don’t know that it excuses the condescending and self important attitude it’s given some people.

And this thread is the perfect example why Anet revamped the starter areas.
I am an awful player with bad internet. I did it with like 2 death’s. Both of them were due to my horribleness.
This is actually easier than the fool sylvari with his bombs from .. what.. the first part?
for other not very good necromancers, I realised that I had done better on my first of a dozen or so attempts when I had not read about semi safe areas and not concentrated on getting in to them . Although people talk about using ranged weapons from these areas I always got out of range messages. Various posts talked about foods and condition damage reduction—you can buy a bowl of lemongrass poultry soup for about 49 silver at the trading post and I used this for my successful attempt, during which I also needed 3 instant repair canisters( 35 jewels each on trading post) Whilst I found Wielder of Magics post almost impossible to understand he clearly suggested well of power so I equipped that. I used an armour booster the reduce incoming damage by 5% one but had to find this from another character as had used the one you get in the story on an earlier attempt . Unfortunately apart from replaying the story with another character I don’t know how you get one reliably if you haven’t got one . With all of this was able to finally complete mission despite a dozen or so previous failures
Fun fact, bring a Ranger.
Even if you get downed, pet will rezz you anyway
Not so fun fact having to play thru it all again on ranger to unlock chieves ,

There are plenty of people who are level 80 and rangers who you could invite into the instance, too. Plus, the other classes aren’t totally helpless in this instance.
What I think would be a good tip is that you don’t need to dodge that huge attack that hits everywhere. Time it right, and I believe you can jump to avoid getting hit.

There’s an achievement related to avoiding the stomps:

Jumping and dodging both work, so you are better off jumping and saving endurance for other attacks.
Found it pretty easy (got downed once first time) but I played with a Guardian, so it’s a lot easier than with let’s say an Ele.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
I personally found the fight to be okay. I think I died once the very first time from dodging off the edge. The achievements were what I took some time to get right, not from dying but from simply mis-timing dodges. once you get those out of the way, the challenge mode is cake because you don’t need to worry so much about missing one dodge. I probably wouldn’t have bothered with the achievements (as I find them more tedious/annoying than challenging or fun to do) but was trying to get my 10k ap rewards… so yeah. :/
It wasn’t hard just… annoying I think. I can understand why someone not used to such fights would have a hard time with it, though. I grew up on single player games (mostly puzzle platformers or action/adventure) so I’m sort of used to these kinds of things in games. In an MMO it’s a little new I suppose, and it’s true that there are all kinds of people who play MMOs. Not just hardcore gamers, many are into it for different reasons. So I guess it wouldn’t be unreasonable if the fights were less challenging in story-related missions.
Even though I really appreciate any challenges added to the game since I personally like that sort of thing, I don’t think it should be required content to continue things like story. IE, Queen’s Gauntlet was great for people wanting some individual challenge (like myself) and yet it was not required by any means.

Please please, don’t take the difficulty out of the content. The boss fight for me, was pretty easy, I didn’t fully die, but I did get downed about twice during the achievement run that requires the pod activated (boss aoe hurts while you are rooted…). Anyway, I found the fight still doable.
If you have difficulty in the fight, try asking others for advice? retrait? bring different weapons? different gear if you are not comfortable with berserker? try different class?
