scarlet vs steam creatures
Indeed, so what are we discussing?

I misses that. I’ll have to have another.

Seems like a direct conflict to the Infinite Ball personal story line.
Even in death Scarlet is still causing plotholes.

Not really.
The Infinity Ball shows a POSSIBLE version of the future. A bit like the Fractals.
It is still fully within lore and the realm of possibility that Scarlet was the one that built them in our version of reality (and it could have been her in the Infinity Ball version as well for all we know)

I was a bit surprised by the revelation too, but eh, I can live with it. I filed it under the assumption that in the alternate reality shown to us by the Infinity Ball, it was the Asura PC who created the Steam creatures (and then presumably went on to succeed where Scarlet failed). In our reality, it was Scarlet who created them, and we ended up defeating her.
It’s a temporal paradox. The steam over-mind from the future reached back in time through the steam portals and caused both Scarlet and the Asura to invent steam brains in alternate realities and therefore invented itself. Kind of like when Fry from Futurama became his own grandfather.
Or something.
I’m still finding the whole situation incredibly funny. People get angry at Scarlet over the most simplest of thing, but when we now have proof that she released self-replicating sentient machines into the world without any sort of know failsafe, no one bats an eyelash at that?
Does no one else read/watch sci-fi?
Oh, and it doesn’t help that we killed their Mom/Creator too!

As long as they have GW2 enemy AI I think we are all safe….
Fate is just the weight of circumstances

If I understand this correctly (I’ve yet to play that particular scenario) the pc asuran makes steam brains instead of Scarlet, but now Scarlet “claims” credit?
But given that Scarlet when she was Ceara seemed not above doing a few questionable things and she was rather conceited and arrogant, I wouldn’t put it past her to claim things as “hers” when they might not have been. Or two great minds work alike and they came to similar conclusions.
It has got me interested in playing an Asura in this scenario though. Just to see exactly what happened in that story.
Did the Infinity Ball storyline actually say that the alternate universe PC created the steam creatures? Is it possible the alternate universe PC just took control of them?
One thing that (if I recall correctly) emerges from all of this talk in Scarlet’s Prosperity room is that there will be MORE steam creatures – in Maguuma, this time.
-Asuran Hero creates a working Infinity Ball
-Realizes they will go mad with power after their alter-ego from the future or an alternate reality tries to kill them, and they swear off the Infinity Ball for good
-Creates a paradox in the space-time continuum, as there is now no one to create Steam Creatures
-Scarlet is created to fix the paradox

The Asura PC never made a steam brain/creature. He/she only made the Infinity Ball. When he/she used it, they were able to connect to a possible alternate future where he/she used the steam creatures to conquer Tyria. The Grand High Sovereign labels the steam creatures as his own creations, but he also implies he only developed at a later point of the PC’s timeline.
Mysterious Stranger: You don’t stand a chance. In your world, this technology hasn’t even been invented yet!
That quote has also been proven false. From what we learn for the latest LS, Ceara was the original creator of them in this world. (Note: That since the GHS came from a possible alternate future, and the history differs on certain events.) Ceara developed, experimented on them, allowed them to improve themselves, and finally released them into Lornar’s Pass and Brisban Wildlands years before the Asura PC did the Infinity Ball part of the PS.
