I have got to the floating room in the cavern,there is a star in the middle but no white mantle appear and nothing happens. what am I missing.

Did you interact with the little altar?

Did you go up top to the floating arena/coliseum? That’s where one interacts.

If I’m thinking of the same story step. I didn’t understand where it was, at first, either. Lol, restarted the step.

OP is asking about the sequence way down in the hole (we’ve had a bit of a PM discussion on it). The green star on the little altar doesn’t seem to be letting OP interact. I suggested checking the UI upper right story prompt to see if a step was missed, haven’t heard back as to whether that worked.

I thought because the OP said, ‘floating room’, he/she needed to go up above that area with the red ley-line energy and broken walls/columns/whatever that is. Maybe that’s a different chapter, or something.

Did you kill all the White mantle that spawn as you run down? I believe there might also be dialogue so you should run, not fly, until u get to the bounce mushroom. This is what I always do and everything works fine.
