why do we wait 2 weeks to release more content that’s part of the same content we got prior? is it to drag it out to make it seem like were getting more then we really are or what am i missing?

I think it’s to stagger content and make people feel the need to keep playing. I am personally against the concept of the LS as it exists now, but here are some reasons for 2 week released:

-A net is big on the “casual gamer,” ie people who play a few hours a week after work and have families and can’t devote their whole life to this game. Since they do time sensitive achievements for evolving stories, it allows these players to still participate and not get mowed over.

-The LS generally affects the world in some way through events or catastrophic changes like we witnessed in Lion’s Arch. It would be unreasonable to release this all in one package if it is intended to work as a community event. Sure, you could have it in an Expansion where a lot of it is instance based, but this way seems to have a more immersed feel when you think about how the loss of a town affects everyone, or how a previously peaceful zone is now totally riddled with events and intruders.

Now for the cynical:

I feel that they’re doing this to try to satiate the players. I know many who would have quit, myself included, if it wasn’t for the aspect that we’d be missing something by not staying. I don’t enjoy PVE unless it’s making me money. I’d rather sit there and not do anything than venture out and do something that doesn’t earn me anything. I like the game to be pretty of course, but if I’m not seeking a skin or getting gold or being “compensated” in some way, I’m not doing it.

The adding of achievement points that are expiring helps keep people like me playing. I don’t want to NOT get them, as achievement points do get me more rewards chests and all that garbage, plus a lot of these events give one time only items or minis, which I hate that I feel compelled to get. I hate the living story but I keep playing because they don’t stop them. It is an infuriating cycle.

I assume that, for players like me, it helps Anet keep us in gear until they get their heads out of their butts and do real updates and real zone “expansions” (not literal expansions, although I would pay for that).

I actually wanted exactly what they released. Not to release the whole zone at once, but let the players become part of the exploration of it. Once the LS is over and done with the whole zone will be available. This is the best possible way they could have done it. Especially since it seems they are keeping with a 2-week release schedule.

Just because it isn’t what you wanted doesn’t mean it isn’t what other people wanted.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

You do realize that’s not how AP works with the new LS right? Those achievements are permanent. You can work on them a year from now if you wanted to.

I like that there’s things I’ve overlooked in other zones, as that’s an aspect of my character. But I love being able to familiarize myself with an entire area, especially when it’s so small. Something about the novelty of only accessing a portion of an entire zone before more is revealed the following update interests me.
I know I likely would have never seen two particular Events if the entire zone had been released, certainly fuels my desire to explore every nook of the rest of Tyria later.
The Coin Achievement was neat for this, too.

I think jw = just wondering. On topic though, I don’t mind the 2 week release schedule of new content especially when you notice that during those two weeks of each episode they’re building up towards the next episode subtly. If you haven’t noticed for example, lots of way points around Tyria now have thorny vines coming next to them which appear to be siphoning energy from these way points.

The whole goal is to get you to keep playing, otherwise they would fail as a business.
This is a F2P game and so you don’t feel the need to keep playing to get your moneys worth from the subscription that you’re paying.

Part of how to do that is the LS. Knowing that you might miss something kept you playing and I’m sure it worked for many others too.
Releasing it in ‘unlockable episodes’ as they’re doing now also keeps you playing.
Even if you don’t actively play it then and there, they’re keeping you logging in, which means you’re keeping it installed on your computer.

By knowing that you have to log in at least once every 2 weeks to unlock something you will otherwise have to pay for via gems, you will keep the game installed.
Even if you don’t play it immediately, it’s keeping the game in your mind and on your computer, otherwise many people would probably uninstall the game and completely forget about it and if they did think about giving it a go, the thought of having to install it again would be a deterrent.

Stuff is changing between the 2-week cycle. Vines on waypoints, new conversations/new books, a mysterious figure in Dry Top …

It’s staggered to let the story evolve, if you’re looking. I love the pacing, personally.

I hated the every two weeks, use-it-or-lose-it design. Now that content can be replayed, it’s cool. And yes, the continuous evolution of the story is a fantastic improvement. I’m sensing Anet heard and implemented improvements.
