I don’t think you can reach level 80 by crafting only. For one thing how will you get the materials to craft with?

I do believe you can technically gain 80 levels by completing all the crafting professions. However, to completely level a character that way, you’d have to have another character out farming gold/mats for the crafting character to even have the ability to craft, and you would have to do ALL the crafting professions. In the meantime, your farming character will hit 80 first as you’ll need a ton of mats to level all the crafting professions.

You get no exp once you max the skill.

You have to take every crafting skill to 400 except chef which will be about 150 when you hit 80. I suggest following crafting guides to minimize expense. Even then it will cost you about 60gp and will take 5 hours to do.

If you use a crafting booster (boosters) each 1-400 will give you around 12 levels. So you’ll only need 6 and most of a 7th which can save some money

60g all together.

If you have no mats at all, that is. Even then, Cooking for example, can be cheapened a lot if you try to stick to mainly using the ingredients that can be gotten from Karma, which are quite a few. Cooking should be about 2-3 gold. Artificer likewise (crafting just potions). I’m thinking Leatherworking comes next, with about 4Gish. Then I’d say armorsmithing at probably about 5g. Jewelcrafting and weaponsmithing (avoid weapons that require lots of wood like the plague) are probably equally expensive, 6-7G? Huntsman remains and is horrible. Wood is horribly expensive at the Trading Post. Have fun burning 10G on this last profession alone. I’d probably recommend doing only 5 crafts, and skip Jewel crafting, Weaponsmithing and Huntsman. Just level the first 20 levels manually, which are faster than later levels. Then get 50 levels through crafting. At level 70, you can go into Orr, and by the time you reach Cursed Shore, you’re level 75. Do two hours of events and you’re 80 and made some money and Karma too.

This way, those 5 crafts will probably only have set you back 15-20 gold, depending on how many mats you started out with in the first place.

And like someone else said, always follow a crafting guide 1-400 to do the most efficient ways to level it up. Saves a lot of money.

I don’t think crafting boosters work like that… lol. Crafting boosters help you level your profession faster but you’ll still be within the experience threshold all the way til 400.

Would using one be a loss of exp or make it faster? because you’re leveling faster etc
As far as I know exp drops after you make one thing to much, In Chef I made like 100 Chocolate things and I was getting 50exp by the 50th.

Crafting boosters do mean you level faster than you would without using one – i.e. you gain more levelling exp for each item crafted (until the exp limit on that item is reached) and you earn more exp through discovery.

Most crafting guides depend on discovery to get you from 1-400 in the most effective way, which usually means that you are only creating one of a specific item before going on to discover another one – that way you never reach the exp limit on a specific thing (as in crafting mulitples of it until it gives you no exp at all).

The only crafting items where you will see diminishing returns in exp is where you are refining your base mats – i.e. turning wood into planks, etc as you will need more of these in order to facilitate the discovery of new items.

Seeing as I wont be exploring would it be easier to buy the stuff of the TP?

If you’re not exploring to gather mats then the only way (apart from generous donations) to get them is via the TP. The one thing I would say is that if you skip a stage and buy refined mats directly from the TP (i.e. buy planks not wood, or dowels not planks) you will miss the experience you would have gained from doing this refinement yourself and you won’t level as effectively.

I would recommend buying base mats and doing the refining yourself, this way you ensure you get the most exp for your money spent.

Try googling ‘levelling to 80 through crafting’ I’m fairly sure someone most have done a guide for this although I’ve never been looking for it. The site I tend to use when I’m crafting is this one http://www.gw2wiz.com/ which also gives shopping lists for mats needed to get to 400 in each craft. I would strongly recommend that you read the guide through and do a little TP research on current mat costs as they can fluctuate and the guide might be slighty outdated.

Good luck.

I may have skipped where someone answered this for you but: You can buy bigger bags at the TP. Eight slot bags are pretty cheap but every size over that increases in cost significantly.

Or… You can make 8+ slot bags with the crafting as you level. That is what I would do.

I would expect crafting booster to increase how much exp you get from crafting (you get as much exp as your craft does). however, the craft also levels faster. so you still get the same levels out of maxing that craft. it would just require less materials to do = cheaper.

Using a crafting booster just helps you level your profession faster by increasing the chance of a critcal craft (The one with +EXP when you craft something) So you’ll get through your crafting faster hence getting the 10 levels faster. You can also save money too in a sense.
